    These are starting to make me feel REALLY old and sad. Nothing was better than having mom tell you to get your pajamas on when it was still light outside. You knew what that meant! You grabbed your pillow and a blanket and headed for the car. It was the most exciting wonderful thing in the world! Although I have to admit that Walt Disney's Pollyanna was the only movie I ever saw at the drive in all the way through. Usually we were asleep about 15-20 minutes into the film.

    This is incredible - when I was a kid back in the 1970's and living with my parents in CT we'd drive down to Ocean City every two years to visit family who lived in Salisbury. I very vaguely recall seeing the drive-in off RT 50. Pretty amazing the screen is still up. Thank you sooo much for sharing this!

    Camping is the best thing a homeless person can do rather then sleep on the sidewalks. It's easier to end up in that situation then some might think and also so many different reasons why. Rarely is it that they choose not to work. Society chews you up and spits you out once you don't appear to have any "value"

    • @sharlottebarber9704
      @sharlottebarber9704 6 лет назад +10

      So true!! Just 2 paycheckecks away is where a lot of Americans stand from being homeless. Have you seen the " social experiment" of the homeless veteran ( who was actually homeless) and the young. homeless teenage boy ( who wasn't really homeless)? People passed the two all day long. Most people gave to the boy and very few to the veteran. At the end of the video, the boy's older brothers come out and talk to the veteran and reveal to him that the boy is their brother and isn't really homeless. That it was a social experiment to show the stigmatism against veterans. They then give the veteran the money that the boy had purposefully collected for him. There were many tears shead. Makes a person stop and think!!

    • @JPVideos81
      @JPVideos81  6 лет назад +13

      I'm by no means judging them for being homeless or for living in tents. Heck, I'd rather sleep there than on a street. The only concern i had is that its technically their "home" now. Most people protect and defend their home from strangers. I just didnt want to surprise them if they were armed or maybe high on drugs, especially since i was alone.

    • @JennyBrett
      @JennyBrett 6 лет назад +4

      Yeah definitely, you have to be cautious. That's one of my main concerns when exploring...well I'm always afraid to witness something illegal and then they wanna get rid of the witness lol

    • @JennyBrett
      @JennyBrett 6 лет назад +2

      + Sharlotte Barber Oh trust me I've seen first hand being homeless myself several times...once being the result of a crazy ex stalking me so I had to literally disappear off the grid.. I lived in my car in Pittsburg in the middle of winter and then the cops towed it because the tags went out so I was then on the street. I have worked under the table at bars too and just secretly slept inside after closing. Definitly exhausting and enough to make someone go insane...it's like there is never any down time. You have to keep on top of everything or you will fall through the cracks.

      @@JPVideos81 Yes, this video had me remembering the many movies I saw at our local "Passion Pit." I remember funny messages on the roadside NOW PLAYING board, such as: "In the car heaters - A Girl Can't Help It" and "The Gentle Sargent - A Hard Man To Find." Some of us from my sports car racing team went to see "Grand Prix" in '66-'67 at the drive-in. If you know the film---probably the best car racing movie ever, in most critics' opinions---you can imagine what the helmet and car-mounted camera footage evoked: lots of flashing brake lights!

  • @robydaniels2318

    You know for a walk in the woods the normal person would never have known this was a drive-in. It's amazing how the Earth overtakes things if I'm checked in 40 years. It's sad to see that people have to live outside in tents. I can completely understand about making no contact. At least they're putting the property to use for loving at this time.

    As usual I learned something from your videos....didn't know current Drive-ins use radio freqency instead of the old pole mic for audio. I'm so behind the times. The tour was very interesting ..not at all boring. It had every element ...old structures , artifacts , nature taking over , the suspense of what we"ll find , and will something ( or someone )pop out of the trees and scare us. Add your excellent filming and editing and you gave us a very enjoyable explore . Another great job , Jay .. for sure I'll be seeing you in the next video : )

That location was considered "outside of town" back then, like Ocean Downs race track.

    As always Jay, I love your videos of abandoned places. Boring...NEVER!!!! The colour of the paint (Light Teal) was definitely a 50's colour. It's not always what you film, but I remember going to the drive-ins whenever I was a teenager. Just seeing those buildings sent me back to great memories.
    Is kinda creepy to walk upon someone's campsite, homeless or not, I personally would feel like I was walking into someone's house without knocking.... and finding a handicap potty chair out in the woods... Eeewwww... but I guess if that's the best that someone has or the best they can do... it is what it is... in a house or woods I guess.
    But the flooding of memories of the yellow concession lights (they limit the attraction of bugs), the real walls, the chest freezer where they kept ice cream novelties, the smell of burgers, fries and hot dogs.... all came rushing into my mind. Thank you for taking me down memory lane. ❤✌🏼❤

    Very cool explore, thanks for sharing! As a lifetime Maryland resident I've driven past this on numerous occasions throughout the years. I found an article with photos from (I think- it was a bit vague as it also mentioned the late '80's) 2000 & possibly 2008. I wanted to comment bc it was mentioned in the article that even back then, tents were being used. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure ~ all the best🙂

    Right in front of you around 3:29 (and again around 4:03 on the left side of the screen ) I see what looks like a rusty metal pole, which may well have been one of the speaker poles you mentioned at the outset of the video. I saw what looked like a bunch of other ones not too long after the video started.

    I've driven past that a million times. Never thought to explore! The owners used to post the Orioles scores everyday all summer in the 80's and 90's (and the early 00's too, I think). It was also used as a paintball arena for a while in the 90's.

    So remember drive-ins as a kid.Used to go to them often.Went to one in near Cape Canerveral Fla.They sold coil like insect repellor things you would set outside your car and light.Later days would go to a drive-in near Vermillion,SD during mine and my brothers college days-so remember watching James Bond movies there all night-was CHEAP entertainment in those days.And would eat hot dogs,popcorn and soda.And the concession counters at theaters in those days were candy stores that had just about any candy you would want-Jaw Breakers,Cinnamin balls,NECCOS,Life savers,Smarties.Don't see those in theaters anymore-so now I watch movies at home.Some feel the VCR as the first home movie format killed off the drive-ins.You could rent the tapes from Blockbuster and watch at home-you could pause the moive to go to the bathroom or go to the kitchen to get something to eat-no pause buttons at drive-ins or hardtop theaters!

      Joyce it's far from a small knife. And thats just one form. I usually have more than one but at the very least i always have my knife on me. I also have never shown any drifters in my videos. Only evidence of people staying there. As for the mold, i wear a respirator now.

    The first movie there was "Hondo" with John Wayne in 1954...In the late 1960's it was mainly Elvis Prestly movies - like "That's The Way it Is" etc.. I think it closed down in 1978 though - The last movie shown was some Disco movie. Sun and Surf in north OC stole a lot of customers by then - It's even closed now and slated to be torn down ironically. End of a era.
