They make a reserve version that kicks up the ABV to 17%. At bottling it’s extremely hot. but aged gorgeously. Surprised the hell out of me when I found a old bottle in my seller last year.
The Dragons Milk seasonal variants.... and the new Dragons Milk barreled reds/barreled blonde (their names escape me) make Dragons Milk "sorta" interesting. But yes, its very... plain. like the Lexington Kentucky barrel stuff plus one.
There was a time when this was a whale on par with KBS or Bourbon County. I remember being pretty impressed the first time I had it (got it in a trade). Now it's a fairly cheap supermarket beer which makes me think they're cheating somehow (how can such a high abv beer be so cheap?). And now they have a whole line of variants.
I recently moved to VA and I always see this sitting besides KBS. Its usually a dollar or two more and after watching this I'm glad I've never picked it up. KBS isn't close to what it was either
Here in Michigan, I'll still hear non-beer nerds boast about this beer. That said, those tend to be nerd-nerds who get excited by the name and kinda D&D/Ren-Fest-y sorta aesthetic to it, along with it being a easy to find high-abv beer. I had the first I've had in a looong time and yeah it was okay.

That's awesome. I would love to try this with some more age.
Thanks for the review. Great observations on why not giving this to a newbie.
Cheers! Thanks for enjoying the content!
I enjoy this stout, and I still can't understand why Pabst Brewing Co. has had it listed on their portfolio, for years.
That's weird.

Yeah, I haven't had one in a while, but it's gotta be better than Lexington.
Agree with the review. The “char roast” always turned me off. And yes had a harsh dryness in my palate.
Yeah, especially when you have amazing examples of this style. This comes off mediocre.

Never knew it as something special. It was just around. Not special like BCBS or KBS. Maybe this was before my time.
84!! Must have paid you off...63 at the most
I doubt the payoff, but it’s not a great shelfie stout. Boring, overcarbed, and thin, with little barrel character.

You really hate this beer that much?
@@DarwinsBeerReviews I personally want to like it, since it’s so readily available, but it always seems to disappoint.
@@DarwinsBeerReviews hate is putting it lightly!
That’s a great beer. Strong but delicious
Quite tasty for sure.

KBS over this for sure. I need to revisit KBS too.

you ain't in Michigan
@@bjplum80 yes I am, ren fest nerds think it's cool just because of the name and abv. Half the time they think it's dragonmead too
@@SchwarbageTruck Darwin is drinking from a Dragon's Blood & Guts glass. Could be getting paid under the table. Keep an eye on this one
Yeah, I wouldn't try this again if you have better options in MI.
This one misses the mark for me. I can't get past the mouthfeel.
I tend to agree.
I hate this beer.
Why?
@@DarwinsBeerReviews too thin for a big boozy stout. Tried it multiple times and I just have never liked it.
