My FAVORITE Ford High performance engine! . . .The Cleveland used features from the BOSS 429, mainly the HUGE intake and exhaust ports. The 351C has a 11.4:1 compression ratio, so you HAD to run premium gas. The 351C4V (4 barrel) was factory rated at 300 horsepower. Dyno tests proved what I suspected all along, the actual output is 350 - 360 HP! Whenever I showed the engine to guys who were unfamiliar with the Cleveland, they'd say things like "THAT's a small block?" or "Look at the size of those heads!" Especially Chevy 350 owners. My first 351C was in a '70 Mach 1. It was surprisingly fast. I mean INCREDIBLY fast. The C6 automatic would chirp the tires shifting from 1st to 2nd , too. Honest to God, when I 1st raced it at U.S. 131 Dragway (Michigan) It ran in the mid 13's, 100% stock, all orginal, no modifications. I installed headers, alum. intake, Holly 780, upgraded ignition and racing slicks - Times were in the low 12's. Only one time (on a very cold evening) I ran a 11.98 ! I still have the time tickets. I foolishly sold it in 1984. Boy, do I MISS THAT CAR.
thats one sweet car. a fast pass for that heavy of a car with street tires too!!! i hopfully my cleveland will run something like this when its done here in a few weeks!
