screw the haters! Jx8 is such a criminally underrated/overhated synth. Massive sounds, given the user is willing and dedicated to give it the time it needs. Excellent stuff sir
Also keeps the price down and therefore a pretty viable option for aspiring musicians :) We might even see a JX8P renaissance in the future - you never know.
I was just listening to Spotify's suggestions for my synthwave playlist, where I put one track from each artist, when suddenly I heard "Those Days" and thought, "Hey, I recognize this voice from somewhere!" So I checked out the whole album and decided to add this gem - great track! ♫
This is a classic. Watched it years ago when looking for some JX-8P videos. Listened for the first time in a while the other night and later saw a video with Espen about him selling the JX-8P. Let's hope whatever takes its place makes another classic.
Sir I really do appreciate your videos. I have already subscribed. Fantastic blueprint tutorials on composition of all things 80s. I’m 50 now and still listen to all things retro. Thank you for your vid’s again as it does take time to edit and put them up. Greeting from Dallas Texas.
I definitely appreciate getting to hear an example of both classic analog and analog modeling synthesis being used together in the same track. Some people seem to have forgotten they can do that. The MiniNova sounds great along with the Roland synths and drum machine.
It's actually not the MiniNova you hear, I just used it in the video to break up shooting the same synths throughout... the solo is the Alpha Juno 2. There's no analog modeling going on in this track at all. It's all the real analogs.
I don't disagree. I'm no purist as such. I just prefer to use my old gear in my own music. I have lots of old digital synths as well. I just don't want to mix old and new when I make my 80s tracks. It's all about using gear from that time to make my sound. However, when I make music for my clients or more modern stuff I mix it up anyway I want. VA, VST and old, it doesn't matter then.
This is so good! I like how you captured the 80’s synth wave sound but put a modern touch on it. I stumbled across your channel researching the Juno 1 and 2 synth . Earned a new subscriber. Nice work
A time machine ride straight back to the 80’s. And I mean that in a good way my friend! Well done sir! Love your stuff. Hope you’re working in Hollywood, on soundtracks for the majors. Just fantastic! Keep em coming!
Great Job !...A real drive into the '80's atmoshperes and glorious sound....a perfect hit to listen to while you're driving or simply relaxing at home....THANKS !!
Espen Kraft Even better that it sounds like it's piece of cake for you :-) But - if I may ask - what's your secret to a good voice recording? - beside being able to sing of course ;-)
I have no secrets I'm afraid, but here's what I think make a good vocal sound (apart from the actual singing as you point out): Use a good mic pre-amp, I use the Audient ID22. A large membrane microphone isn't necessary, but I think it helps. U can get a good one for not too much money. Record as hot as you can into the preamp but if you record into a DAW be very careful about your gain structure. Put the DAW into 24 bits and put the track to -10 db so that you have some headroom when you record the vocals. That way you wont clip the plugins U use to finish the track. Use some compression, EQ and reverb/delay to taste. This is pretty much my setup for vocals. It takes some time to perfect vocal recordings, but I've been fortunate to have been doing over 20 years as a pro studio owner so I have some background Sir! :-)
Espen Kraft Well, the ID22 is quite a bit over my budget, but the practical advice I'm really happy about. I usually never use a DAW but always record live to a recording device with all the fails in mixing signals as a charming result :) But I'll hold on to your advice and might just have to go the DAW way to get the desired results. Thanks a million, mate :)
@@EspenKraft Yes you are very much appreciated. All your uploads are excellent. You reminded me how good the YAMAHA RX11 and ROLAND TR626 drum machines are aswell as your own song demos. Alot of people overlooked these underrated drum machines. You made them shine. To show youtube that for their second hand asking prices. They really are worth adding to peoples set ups. Instead of chasing better known and overused models like the Linndrum, TR808/909. Which go for ridiculous prices. Keep up the great work sir. And maybe checkout my channel sometime. I am a DX7 devotee. So most of my uploads will be about that legendary synth. Or my latest pride and joy the Yamaha RX7. Together they sound great. Demos are on the way. Cheers...
Just WOW. You've managed to catch the 80's unique sound. This song is amazing! A big thank you for uploading. You've got mad skillz :) Song added to my synthwave playlist
Loving that 626 snare. Just been learning more about the JX-8P. Scritti Politti used it a lot on their second album "Cupid & Psyche '85". It has a good sound.
outstanding. the jx the esi and others are my faves too. well the d50 ,wavestation and m1 are my faves but the others are awesome. your track is also awesome. great work sir.
This sounds great! When I first heard this song I thought it was made in 80's, but then i found out it is from 2016. The video is also great and fits good to the song. I subscribed you. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Serbia :-)
very nice job! it resembles me a lit bit kraftwerkian tribute, with new colours anyway, a different approach to the sounds. congratulations and thanks for share!
Luckily, this modular craze meant I could trade a couple of Make Noise modules for a JX8P + an iPad running the programmer. Always wanted to get a JX8P. Going to put it below the Alesis Andromeda :). Great tune, everything about it.
Thanks! You should definately NOT sell either of those. The 505 is a nice vintage drum machine and despite it lacking individual outputs. it's still a potent little rascal! :)
Yes, the TR505 was fun for sure... at one point i had programmed it to play notes (MIDI) on my Yamaha DX21 to accompany me on the JX8P! Took forever to set up but I've always been more of a programmer. I hadn't played my Roland in over 10 years and I took it out yesterday and it sure brought back memories. I bought it used with the PG 800 almost 30 years ago for $400! I wish I had more time to play it :( I'm still thinking of selling so someone else can keep it alive... we'll see! MY jaw dropped when I saw what these things go for on ebay!
Yeah, the PG800 is waaaay overpriced, but hey, if the market is willing to pay... I don't have much need for it myself as I program everything on it directly or use the PG-8X and just transfer the sysex. I'm not into tweaking filters or anything live, I'm a player/composer, not a tweaker, so I'd rather program great patches and use them in songs.
screw the haters! Jx8 is such a criminally underrated/overhated synth.
Massive sounds, given the user is willing and dedicated to give it the time it needs.
Excellent stuff sir
Thanks man! Oh yeah, the 8P is very underrated for some bizarre reason, but this way I get to keep my "secret weapon" a little longer haha. :)
Also keeps the price down and therefore a pretty viable option for aspiring musicians :) We might even see a JX8P renaissance in the future - you never know.
That's right. I have to 8Ps and I'll never let them go unless they start to command top dollars like the Jupiter 8, but that's unlikely haha.
Weak presets are probably a contributor! But one you dive past those, damn... wow
So beautiful!
Nice, thanks! :)

Really Fantastic!
Sweet! :)
Imagine disliking this future classic

I'm a HUGE fan of that 80s synth sound and you nailed it Espen!
I definitely appreciate getting to hear an example of both classic analog and analog modeling synthesis being used together in the same track. Some people seem to have forgotten they can do that. The MiniNova sounds great along with the Roland synths and drum machine.

Ah, okay.
I still believe what I wrote above, that all three forms of synthesis should be incorporated more frequently.
I don't disagree. I'm no purist as such. I just prefer to use my old gear in my own music. I have lots of old digital synths as well. I just don't want to mix old and new when I make my 80s tracks. Got this on repeat, sends shivers down my spine
Awesome! Mighty happy to hear it :) It's available on Spotify and other strreaming services as well. And on Bandcamp! :)
Oh boy, what a beautiful piece of art....
If only my tracks were this close to good.

Very Kavinsky-like. Love it.
The TR-626 sounds perfect on this track.
Thanks! Yeah, I din't even fire up any of my other stuff. Went straight for the 626 :-)

"I AM THE 80s!" - Espen Kraft
Nice to hear a carefully-constructed piece using the JX8p et al - well done! Good visual accompaniment too!
Thank you Rudy! I always had this style of imagery when I constructed the track so I'm happy you mention it :)
Wow this deserves more attention. Love it! Keep it goin' boy!
Thanks man! I just have to grind them out then shall I ? :-) Thanks for the support. Much appreciated.

I will probably never have chance to purchase a one. Such a lovely sounding synth. Warm and full. :)
Loving that 626 snare. Just been learning more about the JX-8P. Scritti Politti used it a lot on their second album "Cupid & Psyche '85". It has a good sound.
Yeah, that 8P is just a sweet spot for my sound. The 626 is also a cornerstone in creating my drumsound.

Thanks man! I appreciate you saying that!😃
Excellent job on this one, Espen!
Thanks man! Your comment was lost in RUclipss' intricate web of comments, but I appreciate you enjoying the track! :)
Yeah no doubt! :)
great !
Dude, that 626 sounds so good. Def a slept on drum machine!
Oh, yeah. Run it through a compressor and pump it a little and it's very potent. I think its kick is the best of all those TR drum machines.
wow! amazing vibe! as well, looking forward to your album with JX-8P and Juno!
Thanks man! The album will appear in about a months time, last part of february. There'll be lots of both the JX and Junos on it! :)
Brilliant performance of a great track. Excellent combination of cool synths!!
Thank you so much for saying that! :)
This was really a great work man!!! AWESOME!
Thank you Tino! Much appreciated :)
Great track, great video. Inspires me to get in my studio again tonight, rather than watching tv.. :-)
Thanks man! Sometimes I don't watch TV for days. You get so much more done when you turn off the TV. (and the internet as well)
Hey Espen great track!I like most of your songs, they are so good!Really 80s sound;-)))
