As a child, I used to think that Brel was Dutch. His pronunciations sounds a bit southern Dutch but is very good.

loooooooooooooooooove this song! it reminds me of pretty much a quarter of the people I've come across in my life, every other person haha! Brel captures the vast folk you'll be meeting and working with in life in this song LOL

In a strange way, I prefer this to the francais version. Sounds like he has lived this life - and certainly had a few, n'est ce pas?

1:35 'Ze nemen zich bedroefd in acht' is not 'They sadly take the night' but 'They sadly observe themselves'

Unusual sound for Brel, I hear a lot of brass, not his usual backing band? A sound close to Sinatra. But of course the lyrics are far more caustic than any US crooner could write nor dare to deliver.

Hi MadMike, thank you so much for uploading this! I couldn't find it anywhere on youtube and it is such an essential song to be played very loudly now and then to make you have a wonderful night :) One question: is it possible for you to make it available for mobile phones as well? I have no idea whether that just is a small switch for the uploader, but it would be terrific, since it would enable me to let others listen to it while not being home. thanks!

    Hello again,
You misunderstood me: I just meant that Paul Michiels (from the group Soulsister) sang this song ,in Brussels, in Dutch, as it is heard in this video. He did not sing it in English, and I do not know who made the English traslation here. Sorry for the effort, but I think you should adjust it again...

I just realized this sounds a lot like the music The Caretaker makes.
