I've been a junglist since I was 13 yo in 1998 Honestly.. I hate the whole breaking down into subgenres bullisssshhh It's all for mixing... Call it a potato if you want to, just make sure the bass hits hard.
If i had to compare id say breakbeat old school was very similar to jungle but had its own style where as jungle formed into drum and bass all equally viable and enjoyable and I came from the original days but I understand what your saying
i like subgenres because it lets me find more of certain sounds! (say you like techstep but not neurofunk, and once you learn the name you can search out more techstep!)
It is not bullshit, it is a way of organising the various styles of drum and bass, metal for example is defined by various sub genres, prog, thrash, groove, melodic, folk etc. If you don't like to learn the different sub-genres, then you don't have to, but don't call it bullshit for no rational reason, especially when there's more to the musicality of drum and bass than just hard hitting bass. DnB came out of EDM and the DIY movement it was associated with, the reason it exists is because of the sub-genres it came from. As I said, do what you will with the information, but it's not bullshit because you don't like it or don't want to put the effort into understanding it.

You kids are funny! 😄 Never heard about "grunge D'n'B" But that sound is called or at least used to be called "dread". But i'm a old Junglist, in the mather of fact so old that i remember what "real" grunge sounded like and it's not Electronic music (I refuse to use EDM when talking about D'n'B) 😄

But as a producer myself, simply seeing EDM as electronic music made for dance, and Electronica is all electronic music not necessarily for dance helps so much with distinguishing. So I’d just ignore people who use EDM as basically big festival electronic music where you do drugs.
Melodic dnb ain't a genre the same way euphoric hardstyle is, melodic in dnb is just a vague term like it is in most music, unlike hardstyle where euphoric hardstyle completely differentiated itself from regular hardstyle, to the point euphoric is normal hardstyle now
@@dariovader26 I worded it badly, I just making a comparison, anyways, melodic dnb isn't a genre, and there's no justifying it being its own genre, honestly, I only brought up ephoric hardstyle bc it was the only genre with an adjective prefix I could think of that was genuinely agenre itself
