Glad to see how much better Beard has gotten since he left Penn state
With Beard having 3 years of eligibility left and Dean having only this year left, Penn State may have run the wrong guy off.

Well, Dean won a national championship last year, so, regardless if Beard has more years, Penn state made the right choice. He very well could win it again this year too.

Coming from a true Penn State fan I can honestly say I’m happy to see Beard beat Dean.
Yes he's a returning National Champ, shouldn't be losing those matches, but its still very early in the season, if I had to name just one thing that Cael does great with his program is fixing their mistakes and not letting it happen again.
His flaw is EVERY SINGLE match is a close 1 point match and it’s EVERY SINGLE match, eventually it was going to bite him and it resulted in his 2 losses in 1 week, compared to the other natty champs on this Penn state lineup majoring or teching top 20 competition pretty easily
Maybe he's not good enough to dominate them, just a wee bit better. Or do you mean lazy

People are underestimating this 197 class. I'd say the top 6 guys are equal in skill. No dog in the weight who can run the table without a loss here & there.
This has to be one of the best 197 matches of all time you never see that much action that high into weight classes. Now if this was the ncaa finals we forsure could say that!

Beard has always been a stud, and former PSU wrestler. Nice wrestling.
For whatever reason, Dean has been off his game this year. I suspect he had some sort of injury or physical problem during the summer. He wrestled in that pre-season tournament when the other Penn State guys did not. Dean also lost to the Rider guy too a couple of weeks back. Maybe Dean is just getting back in wrestling shape. Just a guess.

The wrestler from Binghamton in the quarterfinals last year, Deprez I believe, should have won that match. And no Ferrari (thanks to Ferrari)
@@willflum2847 Jay Aiello from UVA in round shoulda won 4-3. It was terrible. I was there and it was BAD! I think even some of the psu fans agreed tbh. Even JB made a funny meme about the bad calls for Dean at ncaas
Stupid answer... he wouldn't have won if he didn't deserve it... he worked and ground just as hard as the rest... kuddos for beard here... he deserved the win... but do not cheapen it by putting Dean down... he's still a top wrestler
Nah it's all luck.
The only complaint I would have is that the ref was very quick to call Dean for stalling in the first period and award Beard a point. Then Beard is running away in the last 15 seconds and no stall point awarded. That changes the mentality of the match.

I hated to see Beard leave PSU...Hated it. Deen is too damn defensive. Was hoping Deen would leave his shoes on the mat after last years NCAA win.
Dean got seeded 9th at nattys in Tulsa 2023 and got dominated on the first day he is nothing but defensive his easy natty last year against average Warner from Iowa 3-2 was the most boring match at the tournament
