"Dream in a Dream" is the perfect example of what makes Ten such a phenomenal dancer. Even though Ten looks like he must have been a trained ballet or contemporary dancer, really his dance training was in hip-hop and he was a gymnast when he was a kid. So Ten's dance style is really just pure talent. More recently he has taken a few ballet lessons and he is starting to become interested in contemporary dance, but he doesn't have a background in those styles. He is just really good at interpreting what he hears, sees and feels through the movement of dance. And even as a solo project, if you notice everything he does is centered on NCT's dream concept. Even though Ten is Thai, he also has Chinese heritage. He was made a member of WayV because his grandparents are Chinese, so that is where you get his melding of cultures. Fun fact: The other guy you see wandering around in the background, who is sort of silhouetted in the MV, that was Lucas -- fellow NCT-U, WayV and SuperM member. Lucas appeared as a special extra in Ten's MV even before he debuted. So at that point Lucas was still only considered a trainee. It was SM's way of preparing us for his introduction into NCT. Lucas debuted in 2018 in NCT-U's "Boss" MV. :D To really appreciate this performance, you should check out Ten's dance practice for "Dream in a Dream" The choreography is a little different in the dance practice than what you see in the MV because the dance practice is the live stage version, which is a special performance that was done for SM Station 2 years after they recorded the MV. "Lemonade Love" was a special song created as a collaboration between Mystic Entertainment and SM Entertainment, and it was created on the show Snowball Project. The Snowball Project was a reality type TV show that Mark did with Henry Lau from Super Junior-M in 2017, where they teamed up with Yoon Jong Shin, singer/songwriter, variety show personality, and founder of Mystic Entertainment, and Jae Jung Parc who is a Mystic solo artist. Essentially the premise of the show was that Jae Jung Parc was a super fanboy of SM Entertainment, NCT and Mark in particular, and his dream was to get the chance to meet Mark and collaborate with him on a song. It just so happens that SM is a major shareholder of Mystic Entertainment, so the collaboration between the companies was mutually beneficial for everyone. This show and song was meant to give Jae Jung Parc and Mark more exposure and help promote them. Plus, because Mark was pretty much a newbie to variety shows, SM decided to pair him up with their variety show expert Henry, who is known for being one of the most popular cast members and guests on variety shows both in Korea and China. Mark and Henry are both from Canada and they have a really good repore with each other, so I think SM wanted to pair them up so that Mark could learn from Henry and follow in his footsteps. Henry is 9 years older than Mark and he debuted 8 years before Mark, so Mark can learn a lot from him. So on the show, Henry -- who is considered a music genius and ace music producer, on top of a variety show king -- and Yoo Jung Shin were tasked with writing and producing a song for Jae Jung Parc and Mark. And through several episodes, with a lot of reality show/variety show antics along the way, what they came up with was "Lemonade Love." The MV was also created and filmed by Super Junior's Shindong and his video production company. On top of being a member of one of SM's senior boy groups, Shindong also owns his own film company. Shindong is known for producing comedic MVs and videos and, if you know his style, you would totally expect the funny lighthearted storyline of "Lemonade Love." It's supposed to be cute and funny. BTW, the older guy with the glasses is Yoon Jong Shin, who I think is supposed to be the boss or manager of the food truck. And the guy with the flowers, that turns out to be the waitresses boyfriend, is Henry. They make cameo appearances in the MV. Jae Jung Parc and Mark even performed this song at an SMTown concert in 2017, which you can see in one of the episodes of Snowball Project. TAEYONG is so beyond anything I would expect SM to be able to nurture as a performer and musician. The fact that he has so much variety in his lyricism and his genre-bending ability is just... so underrated. Imagine being able to rap on a Hitchhiker beat AND being able to produce a song like Dark Clouds??? Or write on and participate in Cure?? Like the versatility is way too exceptional
If you realized in Candle Light, the final cut of the short mock silent movie doesn't have Mark in it even though Mark was included during the making of the movie, that really breaks my heart. Hrvy (Harvey) is a British singer and dancer and he was 20 years old in "Don't Need Your Love." He has been in the music industry since he was 13, so he has been around a while. The NCT-Dream members are 19-17 in this MV. This was the perfect western/Kpop collaboration. This song highlights all the members vocals really well and really gives everyone a chance to shine. "Don't Need Your Love" came out in 2019. Mark "graduated" in 2018 and didn't come back until close to the end of 2020, and Haechan was busy promoting with NCT-127 on their North American/World tour at this time, so he didn't participate in this song. However, fun fact, in concert when they performed this song Haechan takes over Hrvy's lines in the song. These are all SM Station songs, so that's why they have a different feel and vibe to them than the normal songs you hear from NCT. That is why they are part of SM Station and not on SM's regular SMTown Channel or part of NCT's main channel, etc. Which is why they don't have that "this is a Kpop song" feel. That is what SM Station was created for. "Taste The Feeling" was created purely as an advertisement jingle and commercial for Coca-Cola. But even as an advertisement, this song and NCT's vocals make it a pretty catch fun hit.
Taeyong is the best to me.. he is picked as a leader for a reason. He can sing, dance, rap,a lyricist, composer, amazing negotiator, hardwork plus strict, perfectionist (all NCT members are happy when they were not practising dance with Taeyong lol). yoo young jin sm directors and producers. he produced a lot of sm hit tracks, like aespa next level, savage, girls, nct 127 sticker and many others for sm groups. the lyrics for cure is very beautiful acually. ty wrote his own lyrics and told bout his journey as a trainee. since he actually not really prepare to be an idol and start learning quite late like his late teens compare to others who mainly sing and dance at very young age even before bcoming a trainee
The doyoung and sejeong song's music video actually means that they were actors who were filming together but he fell in love with her as soon as he met eyes with her and imagined a whole date together.
"Hair In the Air" was a promotional song for the Trolls movie a lot like EXO's "Lightsaber" was a promotional song for the Star Wars movie Force Awakens. It was meant to be a cross promotional video and song to help promote SM and to promote the movie across Asia, as well as worldwide through Kpop fans. SM is actually know for partnering with big name western movie productions in order to help them promote their projects. Movie producers look to partner with Kpop companies like SM because they know they are the ones that are the influencers of the Asian entertainment market and they are already experts at knowing how to cross promote and reach the largest audiences.
You should also check out the dance practice for "New Heroes." Fun fact: The dance practice choreography is different then what you see in the MV because in the MV Ten's dancing is freestyle and in the dance practice it has been choreographed to use some of his original freestyle movements and adds in backup dancers and some choreographed elements. The dance practice is what he performed/performs at music shows and in concert. But the MV is all just Ten feeling the music and interpreting the song with his body. :D That is why Ten is NCT's main dancer and the one with the most solo projects, because he is such a great performer and he has such beautiful vocals, that SM has chosen to showcase his talents. Funny thing about Xiumin's and Mark's collaboration is the fact that Mark is almost exactly 9 years younger than Xiumin and yet you would never know it. Xiumin -- who is the oldest member of EXO -- with his eternal youth, never ages. I always find it cute that the song is called "Young and Free" and yet Mark and Xiumin are technically almost a decade apart in age and aren't really even from the same generation. LOL Some theories point to how, even though this is an SM Station collaboration, that the story in "Young & Free" could be connected to NCT's dream concept and/or EXO's other world/other dimension storyline. The woods we see them enter at the end of "Young and Free" looks very similar to the woods scenes in Suho's "Call Me Baby" Pathcode teaser video, the woods we see Xiumin laying on the ground in in "Love Me Right" and the woods in EXO's "For Life" MV, etc. Which also could be part of a dream sequence which would connect to NCT's dream concept. Fun fact: Mark is the member of NCT who has done the most collaboration projects with other SM artists. I think in 2017, the year "Young and Free" and "Lemonade Love" came out, Mark did 3 or 4 other collaboration songs and projects with other SM members, as well as promoted with NCT-U, NCT-127 and NCT-Dream. At the SMTown concert where he performed "Lemonade Love", he performed about 7 other times, as a member of all 3 NCT sub-units and about 4 other songs he collaborated on or was the featured rapper. 🙂 That's why people say Mark must be SM's favorite, because he is the one chosen for the most projects.
wow I love how you guys do a deep dive like this! I would love if you guys reacted to taeyong's soundcloud songs! there's only 5 songs and theyre VERY different sounds from the stations youve seen. I think GTA or swimming pool might be more like what youd image with his image. There's also 2 collabs with other SM artists! one with seulgi from red velvet, and one with baekhyun from EXO!! idk if you guys do reactions to non-music videos , but you can look up a lyric video of the songs with english translations if you think you need a visual. Unlike Ten's solo songs, which are SM Station songs because they are separate from anything to do with any of his groups, Ten's and YangYang's "Low Low" is an SMTown release because, as you can see, there are lots of references in the MV to the fact that they are members of WayV. SM has chosen to connect this song to WayV's storyline. "Low Low" is all in English because, as you may know, Ten grew up attending an international school in Thailand run by British educators, so he spoke English in school. And YangYang is Taiwanese, but he spent several years living in Germany when he was younger, so he also speaks Mandarin and German, and as part of his education he studied English. Like Ten, YangYang is really good at learning languages and he is pretty much fluent in English as well. YangYang is the main rapper of WayV, but as you heard, by virtue of the fact that he is an SM artist, he also has a beautiful singing voice. All of SM's idols were chosen to become trainees because of their visuals, vocals and/or dance skills. None of the company's rappers were selected because of their rapping.Therefore, all of SM artists are amazing singers. That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, because even their rappers get intense training as vocalist. You literally can't be an SM artist without having impressive vocal skills. Case in point, U-Know from TVXQ; Eunhyuk, Shindong and Heechul from Super Junior; Hyoyeon from Girls' Generation; Minho and Key from SHINee; Amber from F(X); Chanyeol and Sehun from EXO; Irene from Red Velvet; Taeyong and Mark from NCT; Jeno from NCT-Dream; YangYang, Lucas and Hendrey from WayV; and Giselle from aespa; etc. etc. -- all their group's rappers, and yet they all could fill in as main vocalists. As you are starting to discover, as the youngest member of WayV, YangYang has a very bubbly cute personality. Ten and YangYang are really close. When Ten was learning Mandarin, YangYang was often Ten's translator and teacher because they both spoke English. When Ten doesn't know how to say something in Mandarin, he just speaks in English and YangYang translates what he says. So they bonded over their shared interests from the very beginning.

Particularly, 'Dream In A Dream'... it's choreo is soooooo dynamic and beautiful, and you really get to see Ten's versatility as a dancer.
"Let's Shut Up and Dance" is a collaboration of 3 artists or groups -- Jason Derulo, NCT-127 and Lay, the Chinese member of EXO -- from all different parts of the world and features dancers from all over the world, so this song was meant to celebrate what makes music and dance such a universal art. If you know Jason Derulo's background, it's not surprising that he is a great dancer. He was a dancer even before he was a singer. If you have ever watched the American competition show called "So You Think You Can Dance?" He was a guest judge on the show for one or two seasons and he talked about his background in dance. He actually has a background in tap dance, hip-hop, ballet, contemporary, etc. Yes, this whole song and choreography is supposed to be a tribute to Michael Jackson. Jason is dressed with the white jacket and hat like Michael in "Smooth Criminal" Lay's red outfit is supposed to remind you of MJ's"Thriller" outfit, and of course, the sequin jacket, and I think the black outfits NCT-127 wear is supposed to remind us of "Bad," etc. etc. Most of their outfits and dance moves were supposed to be emulating MJ. This MV was filmed in different locations all over the world. Because Lay is Chinese, his part wasn't even filmed at the same time or location as Jason and NCT-127. Lay couldn't technically work with NCT-127 at this time because they are a Korean group under a Korean company, even though they are both from SM Entertainment. It's all about appearances. Because this was during the height of the conflict between the Chinese and Korean government, Lay was restricted from being associated with anything to do with a Korean company. The Chinese government will look the other way at some things because it's a song by an American artist and it's all in English, but to be seen actually working alongside NCT-127 would probably have pushed it too far. As an SM group and SM artists, as you know, NCT-127 are a group of amazing vocalists, rappers and dancers. Just like all of SM's groups. :D And it's 127's job to represent Seoul around the world, which is why SM used them in this collaboration. This was during the time when SM was really pushing to promote NCT-127 in the America, and 127 had a lot of activities and promotions in the U.S. Lay is one of EXO's main dancers and he is considered one of the BEST dancers in China. He is one of the most famous celebrities in China right now, so everyone wants to work with him. He has even been given the title as the nation's producer. He is one of the most sought after celebrities in China, who is quickly become recognized for also being one of the most talented. So even American artists such as Jason Derulo, Far East Movement, Will.i.am and Steve Aoki are clamoring to work with him. He even has two solo self-produced all English albums. MJ has had a big influence on Lay as well, so it makes sense he would want to participate in a project like this.

TAEYONG is so beyond anything I would expect SM to be able to nurture as a performer and musician. The fact that he has so much variety in his lyricism and his genre-bending ability is just... so underrated. Imagine being able to rap on a Hitchhiker beat AND being able to produce a song like Dark Clouds??? Or write on and participate in Cure?? Like the versatility is way too exceptional
If you realized in Candle Light, the final cut of the short mock silent movie doesn't have Mark in it even though Mark was included during the making of the movie, that really breaks my heart. I'm so glad they reunited back finally. NCT boys really can pull off every genre everytime without fails. This whole session made me laugh and cry at the same time.Thank you for your NCT reviews.

Hrvy (Harvey) is a British singer and dancer and he was 20 years old in "Don't Need Your Love." He has been in the music industry since he was 13, so he has been around a while. The NCT-Dream members are 19-17 in this MV. This was the perfect western/Kpop collaboration. This song highlights all the members vocals really well and really gives everyone a chance to shine.
"Don't Need Your Love" came out in 2019. Mark "graduated" in 2018 and didn't come back until close to the end of 2020, and Haechan was busy promoting with NCT-127 on their North American/World tour at this time, so he didn't participate in this song. However, fun fact, in concert when they performed this song Haechan takes over Hrvy's lines in the song.

TENs solos are Amazing!
These are all SM Station songs, so that's why they have a different feel and vibe to them than the normal songs you hear from NCT. That is why they are part of SM Station and not on SM's regular SMTown Channel or part of NCT's main channel, etc. Which is why they don't have that "this is a Kpop song" feel. That is what SM Station was created for.
"Taste The Feeling" was created purely as an advertisement jingle and commercial for Coca-Cola. But even as an advertisement, this song and NCT's vocals make it a pretty catch fun hit.

"Hair In the Air" was a promotional song for the Trolls movie a lot like EXO's "Lightsaber" was a promotional song for the Star Wars movie Force Awakens. It was meant to be a cross promotional video and song to help promote SM and to promote the movie across Asia, as well as worldwide through Kpop fans. SM is actually know for partnering with big name western movie productions in order to help them promote their projects. Movie producers look to partner with Kpop companies like SM because they know they are the ones that are the influencers of the Asian entertainment market and they are already experts at knowing how to cross promote and reach the largest audiences.

You should also check out the dance practice for "New Heroes." Fun fact: The dance practice choreography is different then what you see in the MV because in the MV Ten's dancing is freestyle and in the dance practice it has been choreographed to use some of his original freestyle movements and adds in backup dancers and some choreographed elements. The dance practice is what he performed/performs at music shows and in concert. But the MV is all just Ten feeling the music and interpreting the song with his body. :D
That is why Ten is NCT's main dancer and the one with the most solo projects, because he is such a great performer and he has such beautiful vocals, that SM has chosen to showcase his talents.

Funny thing about Xiumin's and Mark's collaboration is the fact that Mark is almost exactly 9 years younger than Xiumin and yet you would never know it. Xiumin -- who is the oldest member of EXO -- with his eternal youth, never ages. I always find it cute that the song is called "Young and Free" and yet Mark and Xiumin are technically almost a decade apart in age and aren't really even from the same generation. LOL
Some theories point to how, even though this is an SM Station collaboration, that the story in "Young & Free" could be connected to NCT's dream concept and/or EXO's other world/other dimension storyline. The woods we see them enter at the end of "Young and Free" looks very similar to the woods scenes in Suho's "Call Me Baby" Pathcode teaser video, the woods we see Xiumin laying on the ground in in "Love Me Right" and the woods in EXO's "For Life" MV, etc. Which also could be part of a dream sequence which would connect to NCT's dream concept.
Fun fact: Mark is the member of NCT who has done the most collaboration projects with other SM artists. I think in 2017, the year "Young and Free" and "Lemonade Love" came out, Mark did 3 or 4 other collaboration songs and projects with other SM members, as well as promoted with NCT-U, NCT-127 and NCT-Dream. At the SMTown concert where he performed "Lemonade Love", he performed about 7 other times, as a member of all 3 NCT sub-units and about 4 other songs he collaborated on or was the featured rapper. 🙂 That's why people say Mark must be SM's favorite, because he is the one chosen for the most projects.

wow I love how you guys do a deep dive like this! I would love if you guys reacted to taeyong's soundcloud songs! there's only 5 songs and theyre VERY different sounds from the stations youve seen. I think GTA or swimming pool might be more like what youd image with his image. There's also 2 collabs with other SM artists! one with seulgi from red velvet, and one with baekhyun from EXO!! idk if you guys do reactions to non-music videos , but you can look up a lyric video of the songs with english translations if you think you need a visual.

Unlike Ten's solo songs, which are SM Station songs because they are separate from anything to do with any of his groups, Ten's and YangYang's "Low Low" is an SMTown release because, as you can see, there are lots of references in the MV to the fact that they are members of WayV. SM has chosen to connect this song to WayV's storyline.
"Low Low" is all in English because, as you may know, Ten grew up attending an international school in Thailand run by British educators, so he spoke English in school. And YangYang is Taiwanese, but he spent several years living in Germany when he was younger, so he also speaks Mandarin and German, and as part of his education he studied English. Like Ten, YangYang is really good at learning languages and he is pretty much fluent in English as well.
YangYang is the main rapper of WayV, but as you heard, by virtue of the fact that he is an SM artist, he also has a beautiful singing voice. All of SM's idols were chosen to become trainees because of their visuals, vocals and/or dance skills. None of the company's rappers were selected because of their rapping.Therefore, all of SM artists are amazing singers. That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, because even their rappers get intense training as vocalist. You literally can't be an SM artist without having impressive vocal skills. Case in point, U-Know from TVXQ; Eunhyuk, Shindong and Heechul from Super Junior; Hyoyeon from Girls' Generation; Minho and Key from SHINee; Amber from F(X); Chanyeol and Sehun from EXO; Irene from Red Velvet; Taeyong and Mark from NCT; Jeno from NCT-Dream; YangYang, Lucas and Hendrey from WayV; and Giselle from aespa; etc. etc. -- all their group's rappers, and yet they all could fill in as main vocalists.
As you are starting to discover, as the youngest member of WayV, YangYang has a very bubbly cute personality. Ten and YangYang are really close. When Ten was learning Mandarin, YangYang was often Ten's translator and teacher because they both spoke English. When Ten doesn't know how to say something in Mandarin, he just speaks in English and YangYang translates what he says. So they bonded over their shared interests from the very beginning.

"Let's Shut Up and Dance" is a collaboration of 3 artists or groups -- Jason Derulo, NCT-127 and Lay, the Chinese member of EXO -- from all different parts of the world and features dancers from all over the world, so this song was meant to celebrate what makes music and dance such a universal art.
If you know Jason Derulo's background, it's not surprising that he is a great dancer. He was a dancer even before he was a singer. If you have ever watched the American competition show called "So You Think You Can Dance?" He was a guest judge on the show for one or two seasons and he talked about his background in dance. He actually has a background in tap dance, hip-hop, ballet, contemporary, etc.
Yes, this whole song and choreography is supposed to be a tribute to Michael Jackson. Jason is dressed with the white jacket and hat like Michael in "Smooth Criminal" Lay's red outfit is supposed to remind you of MJ's"Thriller" outfit, and of course, the sequin jacket, and I think the black outfits NCT-127 wear is supposed to remind us of "Bad," etc. etc. Most of their outfits and dance moves were supposed to be emulating MJ.
This MV was filmed in different locations all over the world. Because Lay is Chinese, his part wasn't even filmed at the same time or location as Jason and NCT-127. Lay couldn't technically work with NCT-127 at this time because they are a Korean group under a Korean company, even though they are both from SM Entertainment. It's all about appearances. Because this was during the height of the conflict between the Chinese and Korean government, Lay was restricted from being associated with anything to do with a Korean company. The Chinese government will look the other way at some things because it's a song by an American artist and it's all in English, but to be seen actually working alongside NCT-127 would probably have pushed it too far.
As an SM group and SM artists, as you know, NCT-127 are a group of amazing vocalists, rappers and dancers. Just like all of SM's groups. :D And it's 127's job to represent Seoul around the world, which is why SM used them in this collaboration. This was during the time when SM was really pushing to promote NCT-127 in the America, and 127 had a lot of activities and promotions in the U.S.
Lay is one of EXO's main dancers and he is considered one of the BEST dancers in China. He is one of the most famous celebrities in China right now, so everyone wants to work with him. He has even been given the title as the nation's producer. He is one of the most sought after celebrities in China, who is quickly become recognized for also being one of the most talented. So even American artists such as Jason Derulo, Far East Movement, Will.i.am and Steve Aoki are clamoring to work with him. He even has two solo self-produced all English albums. MJ has had a big influence on Lay as well, so it makes sense he would want to participate in a project like this.
