Someone who is used to using a Minn Kota Powerdrive, or any motor-steered head will have no problem. If you are used to a cable steer head, you're gonna have to forget everything you knew about foot steering trolling motors. These pedals are GREAT when upgraded with the 360 springs, and works perfect for my Hobie PA14 and Motorguide xi3 kayak issue. No issues at all, and forget that key fob if you fish like I do, standing up and working shallow water alot, pitching, flipping. I fish 100% standing, so this pedal was a no brainer.
Excellent video! Followed your steps to the letter and my pedal is actually usable. Looking forward to using it on the water. The stock Springs are way too stiff. You'd have to be 300 plus pounds to compress the springs and have control.
Thank you for making this video, i just took my foot pedal out for the first time this weekend and was a little frustrated with it. You explained everything very well and are gonna save me a lot of time and frustration. 😂 Good fishing 🎣
Thanks for this video. I thought about the same thing but now it's gonna be easier to figure out how to replace and which size spring to buy. Very helpful!
I believe you are on the right track when you say to think or operate the foot control as if it were the handheld remote control. That is, tap the pedal rather than using constant pressure to turn. I also think the new springs make the taps workable. Thanks for sharing.
This was awesome...changed the springs this weekend! I'm still having a problem that the motor will turn left when the boat is out of the water, but when I put the trolling motor in the water, it won't. That's only with the pedal.....works just fine with the fob. I can't figure it out!
It's crazy to think they sent these pedals out with such stiff springs in there, its basically useless the way it comes! Softer springs are a must! Thanks!
Thanks for the video! I just installed a new Xi3 54" 70 lb on my G3 and the two times I've taken it out, I've only used the key fob because the foot pedal is so damn hard to use. But after seeing some posts on a Motorguide Trolling Motor Facebook page, I ordered new springs that several guys recommended. Going to save your video and view it again this weekend when I try to change out the factory ones with the new ones. Will come back and let you know how it went.
Yeah, it helps. Also found out recently that it’s easier to use while sitting too. I never really SIT while fishing but it helps with this particular pedal
Hey, saw the video. Want to change the springs in mine as well, where did you get the springs and are they anti rust ones? I live on the west side of Ft Worth, I’m sure the box stores are going to have ones that will rust.
I went to the local hardware store on Lancaster. I don’t think it will matter much unless you’re using a kayak and it takes on water a lot but you can get them in any type of metal most likely.
Your content is very good! But video SEO(search engine optimization) is low that's why the video doesn't viral. I want to help you set up perfect SEO and high res thumbnails. Soon the video will go viral.
Great video. Well edited, super helpful, worth a sub for sure. One question: given your experience, would you recommend the MG trolling motor over a Minn Kota (if you have used one)? I want to upgrade from my MK 12V to more power, but nothing seems perfect. Curious what you would do if you had to do over?
Good question. I’ve been certainly satisfied with my motor guide even though it’s kind of limited in many ways. But as you can see from this video, I find ways to make it work. I have a video coming out soon where I address the live scope setup as it pertains to the motor guide. It should be huge!
I finally got the right springs for my warranty replacement foot pedal. installed them. It worked for 15 mins and then quit turning left. Took it home and called. The phone tech said it’s a known bad board and magnet but i waited too long so go buy a new one……”I’ll never spend another cent with Motorguide” everything has problems. The autopilot and spotlock will put you in the rocks!!
Wow! That’s tough. Yeah, idk how they allowed it on the market. I rarely use it now but the springs help a lot. I’m much more comfortable with it now days
@@BassSniper I just went to Ace hardware and bought 6 springs that are too big. Any chance you know the part # or place you found them? And are your springs stainless? I fish saltwater bass. Thanks
@@warren6172 I think the springs I got were stainless. I don’t have the part number unfortunately. I did post the spring dimensions in the video. After that it’s just a feel test. Just make sure the springs will return it back to neutral
Good job on the video. I like the way you explain things. Happy fishing and never let up!
I appreciate that!
Thank you for the video. I really hate my pedal because it is so difficult to press. I will definitely make these adjustments.

I wholeheartedly agree
Great job, this is the first ever seeing someone change the springs 👏👏👍
Makes it a lot better but still not perfect. At least this way it’s operable
Very good!!!
I have been wanting to do that myself but have not but I will for sir.
You narrate well too.
Thanks so much. Glad I could help!

Great video thanks very much. I will now go get my ix 15
Thanks for the video! I've got new springs on the way!
Glad I could help! Hope they do the trick

Precisely, it’s still not perfect and it takes some getting used to but at least it’s workable. Thanks for watching

🤔 if it’s constantly turning, you might be getting a connection in the nodes. Make sure your springs are the same size and resistance.
You need to update the trolling motor it fixes so many issues, the updates are on motorguides website!
When you’re knocking that pin out, you might wanna use a clamp on each side of that pedal to keep it down so the pin comes out straight
It's crazy to think they sent these pedals out with such stiff springs in there, its basically useless the way it comes! Softer springs are a must! Thanks!
For sure. And it’s the only option

Thanks brother. I look forward to hearing how it goes.
What springs you go with
@@abeabe9000 I went with a much softer 2” spring
Nice job. Do you have the part numbers and spring size. Thanks
I think I listed the spring size in the video if it's not in the description
Gotta get me some springs 😂

Does if do spot lock from the pedal?
Yes it does, sorry for the delayed response

That foot pedal almost killed me. It caused me to fall in the water….haven’t used it since.
