I named my started “Ethel” to complement your Fred. I’m a novice sourdough baker. Thank you for your help! I have not yet been successful, but I have not given up. 🥰
Mine is named jasper. 😂
👍😁 I guess Lucy and Ricky need to be next.❤️
I have been waitin’ since a blue moon. Mama me ordered the starter and made bread years. Mama Heaven 5 years. Just me. I’ll say years before we killed it I guess. We kept in refrigerator. Don’t remember how mama did that. It came with a crock. The starter? Did you just make it. What are the starter ingredients? Do you sell the starter at Home Bakery? With instructions? I see all information here. Answered my question. You make I buy with instructions. Yep we bought it and had success years. I think it spilled is how we lost it, long time. Mama was a successful user. She never messed it up. My precious mama memories. Sowing and Reaping. Praise God. We saw it on Farmer’s Market Bulletin those days. The Shady Pines Homestead. FB Bethany. Talk soon. Thank you Hillbilly Kitchen. Blessings all. ♥️✝️🇺🇸🙏🙏
Becky, can you do a show on what you need from the very beginning on how to start a sourdough starter and then how to feed it.
My sourdough starter, Wilson, is now 2 years old.. I am very happy that it is still living .. the discard makes great pancakes, and quick breads. I am still learning and am thankful that you are doing these videos to introduce us to Sourdough. It is worth the time and effort 😊
It’s so funny she named her starter Fred! My mother Scoby for kombucha was “Fred”! Lol
I haven’t named my sourdough mother! I should!
I was truly hoping they would include how to make the starter, water, flour, yeast and sugar ratios. If anyone wouldn’t mind helping me with this please.
Awesome show!!! I just love your channel and all that you do, so I think it is incredible that you had Bethany on and had this great discussion!!! Thank you!!!
Can you give me exact measurements as well as the recipe for making the sourdough starter, please. Have a terrific week.
I named my starter hope. She’s almost 3 months old and my very first starter. I’m going to bake with her this weekend and can’t week
I would love her to demonstrate some of her discard recipes. Thanks for this!
I’ve finally after 3 years managed to succeed at sourdough bread. I’ve also found out that this sourdough has solved my gut problems. No more bloating or cramps. Plus it’s so delicious. I’m doing the whole grains doing my own milling which is a whole other game. But it’s fun after the tears😂😂
I’m about to jump in to the sourdough pool and I’m terrified. I bought a dehydrated starter off Etsy and joined a sourdough group on Facebook. That was my first mistake. That group is so critical of people who are new to this so wish me luck. I wish I lived where there was a class. Thank you for this video.
I bought a sourdough cook book and just jumped in using that. I LOVE it! I’ve made pancakes, waffles, loaves, banana bread, just looked up how to make sourdough tortillas too.
It’s so much easier than I thought it would be.
I started my own starter W 3/8 cup of flour and 1/4 cup distilled water.
I’ve been doing this for about a month now. Happy to help you out if you want any tips. This video discusses very similar things I’ve been doing but some of their flops they talk about, I’ve avoided w different methods
🙏🏻
@@joyfulhomemaker8053 Thank you
What a blessing this is to learn a new ingredient thank you Becky. We love you. God bless you and thank you for this new idea God first.
Thank you for all you do for us, Becky. I sure do miss my Mom's Sourdough fresh out of the oven with some fresh churned butter. Memories like that make this old man smile. Listening to you takes me back to the early 60's when my Maw Maw, Mom and Aunts would all be in the kitchen fixin' up something wonderful for us young'uns. I can almost smell the big ol' Cat Head biscuits my Maw Maw made for us to smother with Honey or Brown Sugar, or her delicious Apple Crumb Pie. All us young'uns would be fightin' over the first piece, knowing we'd get our mouths burned from the hot filling. Ah, memories... All of them are gone on to their final reward now, but I get a little bit of those days back from you. Thank you and God Bless and keep you and yours!
Love the topic❤
Hello, from phoenix Az. Thank you for teaching us. I always mess mine up.
I’m also in Phoenix! Love my sourdough!
I'm handicapped, so I've been using a bread-maker for 6yrs. I still mess mine up, too. I have to remember = Try, Fail, Learn, Repeat...and...never give up.
I would love to see Miss Bethany on your show sometimes. She could teach us how to make things from the discarded starter. Maybe teach us a few more little things as well. Thank you for all you do Miss Becky. You are truly a blessing to us. God Bless you always.
I love this topic, I will try very soon! I've read through some of the comments and have giggled along the way at people naming the starter! I will for sure do the same! God Bless you all, I am always refreshed with God's goodness being reflected in this channel!
I need the recipe for this. Plz
Can you please tell us how to make. The starter??? Thank you. I love love love your show
About two weeks ago, I started a starter 😊 I only had bleached flour and bleached, city water.
It worked, though. Amazingly. BUT... I'm going to throw it away and begin again with unbleached flour and distilled water. I was only practicing ❤
Excellent advice. Looking for the shrink before you feed it is a great tip.
Apparently you can dry and freeze starter, and it lasts for years. Probably a good alternative if you don't use it very often.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you Becky. Very good video. I have never been able to do sourdough. Your bread looks beautiful.❤️✝️🤟
Thank you for having her on and showing us your mistakes...I ordered Fred. Can't wait to make beautiful loaves like yours. Love your videos ❤❤❤
Great video!
Interesting!
Great Video. Thank you, Becky!
Thanks sister, blessings
Every thing looks mighty good.
Awesome video blessings 🙌
This was an informative video on making a Sourdough Starter ladies.
Awesome cool video. Many thumbs up. God bless you ladies.
I love sourdough bread 🍞
Thank you for sharing this. I hope you have a wonderful mother day.
I love this. Been wanting to try this. Thank you for all that you do. God bless you both!
Thanks for the recipe it is new to me I have never heard of sourdough starter before it is a very interesting to me and I will try it in time God bless both of you thanks Jenny santos
I was excited when I saw the thumbnail topic of sourdough starter, but after watching the video, twice, I still just don’t understand how to actually start the starter from the very beginning (flour, water, sugar).🤷♀️
I was wondering the same. It says “how to start” and I kept waiting for the instructions/recipe. I’m a little confused now…😁. Debbie
You mix the flour and yeast with the water. Not sure what proportions were used here but I use 1C flour, 1C water, 1Tablespoon sugar. Cover with cheesecloth
Please what are the beginning ingredients to do the starter, is it just water and flour or do I add yeast and sugar for it in beginning? Thank you for any help yall💚
How do you get a sour dough started ? Will it be a 50/50 mix of flour and water?
When I was little back in the 1970s. My mom used to make Lard Bread. It was delicious, and my mom got the recipe from an Italian lady on our block. I could never find a bakery or anyone that knows how to make it. I've seen some on RUclips but it doesn't look the same. Did y'all ever make that? Please let me know.
Thank you for this! I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble ordering the starter. I left a voice mail & sent an email. Wish I lived closer!
I tried to make a starter three different times. Killed them all... 😮 I guess I have a shorter attention span too! 😂😂😂
I'm going to order some of Fred😉
I want to try sourdough so bad!
This is great video I like to bake but not that much to do this… in WI nit sure if it still holds true but to do sell baked goods wedding cakes etc you had to meet certain criteria before you could do a business from your home..
becky i love that you are having guests on your channel , may i make a suggestion? since her starter dough is named fred and your dough may be related,,,,, ??? maybe name yours freda lolol since you are following her method.. id think she would be honored ;];];];] great job over all... im not a baker but im sure alot of ppl do and appreciate this ;];];]
I keep starter in my freezer to use in Amish Friendship bread.
It's.going.to.be.good❤
So 1/3 cup water to 1/2 cup flour. THAT's where I messed mine up. I was going 1/2 to 1/2 every time.
I have a starter in my fridge for a few years I wonder if it is still ok and worth reviving?
I have a starter in the fridge that has been there for a few months and I haven’t fed it. Will it still work? If I take it out of the fridge do I wait until it warms up before I feed it?
Are their recipes to use sourdough starter for a bread machine?
I grew up on strong sour dough bread and it's hard to find. How do you get the starter to make strong sour dough bread? (The kind like you described as having vinegar in it.)
In order to develop the flavor, you ferment longer. To ferment longer, put it in the fridge. Hold it for at least a few days in the fridge and the flavor will get nice and sour.
@@franchescawetter8423 Thank you very much❣️😋
For an at home bakery, if you are selling, do you need an LLC?
She added 1/2 c and 1/3 c but to how much. What was the amount she started the feeding with after discarding?
How are you starting your starter? Ty.
Can you create a new starter with the discard? Seems like you could just feed it, too…maybe share with a friend? Update….question was answered later in video!!🤗
Yep! I think if this video they ended up showing how they do it. You separate it out and feed it and you are good to go!
I’m betting you made this comment before you got to that part of the video but I was multitasking so I don’t know how detailed they got 🙏🏻
What are the starter ingredients?
My starter is Tillie. She’s 75 years old.
Wow! I bet the flavor is wonderful! ❤️God Bless You!!!
@@TheHillbillyKitchen oh it is. Thank you
I never understood use some, discard some, feed it???but I just discarded.
I want to start some, but the way i live i can't control the temperature very well 😢
I worried about this as well. I live in Phoenix but keep my house cold (65-72 degrees). I waited until my house was consistently 70-72 to start.
I made my own starter about a month ago.
I have to keep mine in my pantry because it’s a bit warmer in there at night. I went camping last weekend and was able to put her in the fridge then take her out and keep feeding her and she’s happy. You really need the temperature consistency the first month (or I guess 3-4 weeks) and then I think she gets more comfortable/flexible.
I’ve been doing this a month and have some obstacles I’ll be working thru w her the next few months. I live on the road in the summer and she will be going back and forth between living in the fridge and back in the counter repeatedly to prevent her from getting too warm.
Happy to discuss if you’re interested! 🙏🏻
What is the starter that is fed with sugar and flour called?
I didn’t catch what they suggested but I made my own starter and feed it w the same thing. 3/8 cup flour and 1/4 cup of distilled water. Took a week to take. I think the first week I could only make pancakes but they were really good.
Oh and my method requires a feeding in the morning and again at night.
I recently went camping and just put her in the fridge. When we got home, I took her out and went back to feeding her like i was before and she is beautifully bubbly and making delicious baked goods.
I have failed 6 times.......I may try again after watching this.
After working with the starter for awhile, city water doesn't work even if you filter it. Use bottled or well water. I am keeping mine alive.
Oh my God! This lady is so tall!
Mmm ,good.🧈🧈😋
Back with jack #71 check it out…no discard no waste
Feed it what? Sugar?
