Wow, what a fantastic sound! The only thing that equals Phil's playing is his testimony for the Lord! Wonderful!
amazing, Phil
Phil Smith is such a strong player with wonderful lyricism. He wears the hat of soloist as well as that of principal trumpet.
Phil Smith. Great man.. Amazing player.. SOUND
I had a school provided Getzen Eterna 800 in college. Nice horn, amazing valves. Extremely easy to play and to want to play. Of course, that goes back almost 50 years.
This explains why he says he is at home on the cornet. This is the REAL Phil smith...
Yes, Phil has the warm cornet type of sound anyway, doesn't he??
Cadenzer - Phil Smith
The clip didn't show him relating a conversation he had with Sandoval about a trumpet player from Wayne NJ. jw
Is he playing a Bach 181 or 184? I ask because he is a Conn-Selmer artist.
Eterna 800 Getzen...
to me the cornet of all cornets. used one in symphonic band in college. wonderful horn for the money.
Yes. A good one indeed. Besson Imperial.....work of art.
He is using a old bach
Fine playing as you would expect from the NYPO's principal but for me there's far too much trumpet sound in the cornet playing.
