    I found this idea here:
    starneslifefami...
    Thanks to Hope, who suggested it. I didn't know you could make your own! That is the beauty part--you learn so much from others.
    2 Tbsp. of fabric softener
    2 Tbsp. baking soda
    Hot tap water
    Spray bottle
    Preparation:
    Using a funnel, pour first your baking soda, then your fabric softener into your spray bottle. Fill spray bottle with hot tap water and shake well. Don't forget to twist the nozzle over to the locked position if you're using a Febreze bottle.
    I would hesitate to spray this on fabrics such as silk (due to water staining), but I don't see how it could adversely effect cottons.

    OK I predict we will now have bottles of Fabreze in every room of the house. Thanks to you! YAY!

    My grandma made this the last time I went to visit her, and it smells awesome! I went around her house spraying it all over the fabrics and then on myself (the clothes I was wearing, LOL!) I think this would be a great way to freshen up some clothes you've had hanging or folded for a while without needing to rewash them, and cheaper too!

    I've been doing this for quite some time now! What I use is water, rubbing alcohol, and an essential oil of whatever scent I want. Works great and havent purchased febreze since!

      Reh Slipchenko How much of everything do you add? My boyfriend wears a bulletproof vest at work, he’s an EMT. The best sprays the sell are SO EXPENSIVE lmao. The rubbing alcohol would help kill off bacteria and such but I’d have no idea what amount to put in!

    AWESOME! I'll do this for sure! I'm tired of paying so much for a bottle! I like to use it in my car too, except in the winter time, when I don't want to leave the bottle in my car (because it will freeze) I usually just put a couple dryer sheets in the back seat and that takes care of it through the cold months. :)

      @missjewells5063 6 лет назад

      Joc A for your car, use a stone deodorizer, (hard to find), or just a small piece of broken terra cotta flower pot, add a few drops of 100% organic essential oils, and that’ll work amazingly. Pick a scent that you like, and that energizes, not a relaxing scent, as you don’t need to be tired while driving. Just remember Essential oils have a mood altering effect, so use it to your advantage for energy, healing, etc.

    well if you mixed just baking soda and water-THAT would be safe for pets for sure! and i imagine thats the part that kills odors.....
    and then you coudl set out some kind of scented device for the nice scent (oil diffusers are ok for dogs, but i dont know about cats since they say to use caution with essential oils and cats)

    what about a febreze allergen reducer version? I buy that one online cause it really helps me. I have severe allergies that cause me to have asthma attacks. I think i ended up paying $30 for a case plus $15 S&H so if u can make a cheaper way i would love to hear it! ^_^

    I'm curious about the baking soda myself....why do you use it?

    • @cheyennewoodard5313
      @cheyennewoodard5313 6 лет назад

      It is used for a deodorizer. Baking soda is used for alot of things but especially to deodorize your fridge, shoes, slippers, carpets and the like. It's almost like a sponge for nasty smells, just soaks them up. Hope this helps :)

    I wonder if you could make this with a homemade softener. since that is usually vinegar, (baking soda optional), and hair conditioner i wonder what would be the best adaptation? use vinegar, baking soda and essential oils for your fragrance?

    • @missjewells5063
      @missjewells5063 6 лет назад

      Charlie Woolson essential oils are powerful and must be diluted correctly. If you know how to use them, you can. Remember when using essential oils, you must use dark glass, and store the solution in a dark and cool place. Be careful with hair conditioners, they have chemicals in them and are not safe to leave on hair for longer than directed, so I wouldn’t use it for upholstery or carpet. Stick to baking soda, it’s natural and non toxic.

    Can I use Laundry Detergent? The laundry Detergent I use, the smell, I'm in love with it. And I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to fabric softener. Idk how it would effect me being inhaled or lightly landing on the skin, but I'd rather not risk it.

    So fill us in on how it works. Had to chuckle at the memory of when all those bottled air fresheners that you put in the car was so popular. LOL! Remember? Any way my husband always complains about febreeze perhaps if I made it in a scent he likes he might not complain. That and hockey season approaches which means really stinky smelly goalie gear. (shudder)

    Baking soda removes odors. Try it on a very smelly cat litter, instantly you will not smell the urine. My friend at the vet said put a layer of baking soda in the cat box before the cat litter and it will keep it fresh smelling longer. Great idea!

      I do too, because baking soda is a natural odor eliminator. It’s non toxic too. It also softens hair and fabric. It’s the sodium bicarbonate.

    So if you are trying to freshen something really smelly instead of just putting scent on it, the baking soda destroys the previous stinky odors like gym shoes, or dogs bedding, used mattress.
