I hiked Currahee today. It’s my fourth time visiting Camp Toccoa and hiking the mountain and I never tire of visiting the place. The setting is so serene and tranquil. You can feel the spirit of the men still there. Everyone must go there at least once.
No politics...PLEASE. These were men that did crap most people today wouldn't consider doing. Their bravery, along with all the soldiers, sailors, and Marines of the time, are the reason we call them the Greatest Generation. Over 400,000 of them died defending this country. Let us applaud them without bickering over the name of a base.
I remember passing camp Toccoa and seeing Currahee prominently, on an Odyssey to visit friends and family. Kept thinking that we’re missing all the cool stuff. That will probably be the closest I’ll ever get.
I grew up a Ft. Bragg for a time, they were still training for Vietnam. I remember meeting other kids whose father had been killed. Me and my brother were the only Air Force brats surrounded by Air Borne and Green Berets kids. I was bound and determined to be tougher than them🤣
That's a good question. I'm sure that certain units of both divisions were as good as each other. I can just imagine the flak I would cop If I rated one better than the other.
@@War_And_Truth For sure. Best not to go there. I just don't remember any other units in either the 101st or the 82nd being abused like the 506th seemed to have been. Guess it payed off. Sure appreciate what you do.
History Underground has a rcent video about Hill 95 and the 82nd. They suffered heavy losses in the weeks after D-day and returned to England until Market garden. If I remember right they a 42% casualty rate.
SINK WAS AS THE GODFATHER OF THE 506.....HE WAS ONE THE TYPE OF THOSE CAN COME IN LATE AND LEAVE EARLY.....HIGHER AUTHORITY NEVER SAY ANYTHING TO HIM .... HE HAD CHANCES YO TAKE COMMAND OF OTHER UNIT(S).....HE THOUGHT HE OWNED THE 506.....AND COULD DO AS HE PLEASED....THE POOR DEVILS UNDER HIS THUMB......PROBABLY HE HAD HIS TROOPS THINGS AS HE COULD BRAGG TO HIS DRINKING PALS...I AM A VETRAN AND I AINT STUPID.....

Its a long way from NSW Australia, but I will do my best to get there some day.
I've hiked it too. June 4th, 2019 on the 55th anniversary of D Day. Several folks hiking it.
The 'Sink House' at Ft Bragg - yes, Bragg - is a set of family quarters by the O Club reserved for VIP visitors to the Post.
That's interesting, thanks for sharing.
It NEVER should have been named Bragg. Do we have a fort Benedict Arnold?

Train hard fight easy , an eternal maximum .

Still great you got to see it.
FWIW...Rod Serling of Twilight Zone fame, underwent his training with the 11th Airborne at camp Toccoa!
He was with the 511th, a regiment attached to the 11th.

Did the 101st fight better than the 82nd during the war. I have never seen a comparison.

I am curious about when they lost a man in a jump accident. Do you have any details about what happened?
I haven't come across it as yet but I still have a lot of files to get through.
Let’s be clear, it’s pronounced “Ta-co-uh” by the folks who live around there….
Its an AI voice
Oh well get over it
You must get tired with the endless Band of Brothers content. The series was almost 25 years ago now. Isn’t it time to put this dead horse to rest.
Thanks for the tip but that wont be happening.
@@War_And_Truth Ignore that jackass and keep 'em coming. You're doing a great job!

Thanks- really can’t get enough 🫡
Ok. Keep the same level of views you always get. It’s called a plateau. Felton doesn’t run the same topic over and over and over.
@@user-mc4sq3fk5d Good for Felton.
