      @@warrenharrison9490 my folks were all in the war. When they were alive, the war seemed like yesterday. Ever present anytime we were together, I would listen to them for hours. The last one has been gone for 4 years only and yet the WW2 seems so far and distant now, no different than WW1 or any other war. Strange.

      It’s very sad. I got to meet him when I was a kid and got to see Guarnere and Babe every year up until 2011 at events in the Philadelphia area. I remember his memorial in Hershey when he passed and the amount of people who came to pay their respects was just beautiful. So many of these great men probably wouldn’t even recognize the world and its issues today…

    My brother and I as little kids watched band of brothers on repeat. Bought the Junior uniforms from At the Front and had Airsoft guns to play in the yard.
    I remember that my mom had basically been somber about it that he had passed away.
    It’s so strange how a person we as kids never met, but had read about, watched shows about was such an iconic figure as children…
    Now as a father myself, Richard Winters will be a legend in our household. Calm, cool, and collected.

    Since they got something so easily to track wrong, like what happened to Albert Blithe, I wonder how much of the show is completely wrong. Blithe didn't die in 1948 from the wound he never recovered from . He actually stayed in the military, fought in Korea, and died in 1967. You would think they would have looked up military records for a show about the military.

    It’s so nice to hear Major Winters speak so highly of Ambrose. I get so sick of the armchair amateur historians try to impugn the character of Ambrose about “inaccuracies” in BoB. I knew Ambrose. He was a good man and a man of integrity. He doesn’t deserve to be criticized and impugned when he is no longer here to defend his work. These amateur historians clowns with the benefit of 35 years of hindsight need to stop trying to rewrite history.

    I just have a general question for anyone and everyone. Does anyone know of my grandfather , SGT Robert, Bob , O. Beerman of WWII ? He was a photographer by trade and was deployed to North Africa in July of 1943 I believe , for Arial Reconnaissance. We have several of his photographs from there and Europe. We also have the original teletype order for him and another photographer to report to England in preparation for Operation Overlord. IDK , I am just hoping that he is actually credited for his service.

    While I have no doubt Winters was a very good leader, having seen countless accounts of E Co. and reading his book, I believe Ambrose stroked Winters ego which was huge. They both did.
    The book was chock full of inaccuracies and played up Winters as winning the war single-handedly.
    The movie series was a Hollywood interpretation of an inaccurate book, and portrayed E Co. the way a Hollywood producer thought would be exciting and entertaining. BoB was NOT a documentary by any means. Just a movie. Ambrose book was NOT a documentary by any means. Just a book.

    Dick Winters is lying about Spiers killing the sergeant and about killing the Germans after giving them cigarettes and Winters knew better. Spiers killed the sergeant for being drunk and pointing his rifle at him, Spiers like many other paratroopers killed Germans who were in the process of surrendering because they were told not to take prisoners due to the fact that they had no way to deal with them and they would slow them down from getting to their objectives but he never killed German soldiers who were already surrendered and disarmed. Art Dimarzio was in dog company who served under spiers and was present at all those events. DiMarzio said spiers never gave germans cigarettes and then gunned them down. DiMarzio said another officer shot a bunch of german prisoners in the legs because they were laughing at them and DiMarzio himself gunned them down himself and didnt say that Spiers was even there. Winters lies about a lot of things in his stories and its a shame that Ambrose, Hanks, and Spielberg took the majority of their "history" from Winters and discounted a lot of the other men whos stories contradicted Winters because they wanted to kiss Winters butt.

    It's a shame Dick Winters was such an ego maniac when it came to dealing with Stephen Ambrose and when it came time to make Band of Brothers. There was so much stuff put in the book and the series and stuff left out about certain members of the 101st and Easy company. Band of Brothers was Dick Winters and Stephen Ambrose version of East Company and their opinions of certain members but it definitely wasn't accurate history. The War and Truth channel discusses a lot of the BS Winters and Ambrose did that were shady. Winters made sure his version of the events and the character of the men were the versions told and nothing that would criticize his version of events was allowed to find it's way to the book or to the mini series.

    • @megancrager4397
      @megancrager4397 День назад +2

      That channel is also biased.
      I'd fault Ambrose over Winters. He is the ine that decided the final product of his book.
      I fail to see any egomania from Winters in anything I've seen.

    • @johnappleseed9290
      @johnappleseed9290 7 часов назад

      Winters was a peaceful old man I think in a way he just wanted Ambrose to depict the events in his miniseries based on the actual events he described in the early 90s and anything after that he just kinda winged it so the Hollywood folks wouldn’t get upset by what really happened (hence the speirs situation and running back because col sink called him) he knew the truth obviously but he didn’t want to upset anybody. What I find the most interesting is the detailed version of the brecourt manner assault. That was interesting to hear.
