  • Players got Monday and Tuesday off...the podcasters did not! An incredible Sunday that saw several Villans pushed to 300 minutes in 7 days, ended with a comprehensive and stylish victory, that resembled many early season performances, when Villa wasn't stretched with European Competition. Pete the Canadian Villa fanatic looks back at the stellar display, noting some serious performances from several individuals. In fact, it would be hard to select the "reverse" man of the match, it was that comprehensive a performance. Many firsts to review, but the show came just on the wrong side of news that Unai Emery has extended his contract through 2027...more great news for Villa Nation!

Amazing week. We did it with a depleted squad. No excuses. Unai really is a genius. Our guys are tired, but they're pushing through. Spurs run in is horrible. Top 3 and Chelsea in their last 6 games. Ollie was unplayable.

The way Unai has galvanised the club spirit where every player is working for the team has in my view overcome fatigue over the last 7 days to deliver outstanding results!

Barring a remarkable Spurs run with a strange capitulation from us then I reckon we will be hearing that Champions League jingle for the first time at the Villa next season. Fingers crossed.

What an amazing time to be a Villa Fan. In my 40 years plus of watching Villa this is the most exciting it's been for nigh on 30 years. Absolute loved your praise of Ollie Watkins. As an exiled brummie travelling up from Exeter each home game we were chatting to you before the Wolves game about Ollie and having seen him many times as a youngster could see his absolute potential . What a guy what a player and its pleasing to see that he hasn't let the big time get to his head and is just as humble and down to earth as he was playing for Exeter.

I watched a very good Bournemouth channel. The biggest difference was Aston Villa's ability to make big chances count. Our final pass was always perfect, where Bournemouth final passes were going astray.

Yeah that Fulham game was horrible to watch at the time but the announcement of Gerrard's departure later that night felt like a massive cloud lifted. Took my wife and kids to their first trip to Villa Park for the Brentford game the following Saturday, which was a brilliant result (and helped cement my kids love of Villa despite them being born and raised in Brighton). What I didn't know at the time is just how much things were about to change 😃

@@robjackson3556 Seeing Nas storm off during that performance strangely calmed me. I knew Steve would be done by the evening. Nas looked like he wanted blood. That's the first time I think I've seen the ruthless businessman he is. Normally he's very nice and respectful.

To give Diaby a little bit of slack for the loss of the ball in the penalty build-up: was it not that he had studs scraped down the back of his leg, rather than moaning about having his arm held? Great video, Pete.

Yet another thoughtful and insightful podcast. Great performances throughout the team. Tielemens has been a revelation over the past 3 or 4 games and let’s not forget, he was a free transfer!
My MOTM (sorry, POTM) was Rogers. As you point out this lad is only 21. I would venture to suggest he has filled the hole usually occupied by Ramsey and wonder how much game time would he have had if Ramsey had been fit?

Diaby had a lower back injury earlier this season. It looked like he pulled up because he thought he had a recurrence of it. Unfortunate it led to the penalty but likely the reason he stopped playing.

Sometimes a player takes his chance and makes you wonder whether we actually miss the formally undroppable Luis. It’s not tactical really just necessary because of circumstances that reveal things sometimes.

Tielemans has got to play against Chelsea. Dropping him for Dougie would send out the wrong message. Youri could be forgiven for thinking "what's the point" if he loses his place after being superb for the last 3 games.

I've watched over 30 years of Villa, and Footy in general, why do I feel as though you are the only one who specializes in........... punditry....? I mean what does Linekar and/or the Sky crew do? errrrrr? Anyway, Claudio Bravo sir, PETE (I had to search for that!) your balance of charisma and actual punditry/stats/eagle eyedness is a winner. Don't go to the big dogs when the big DOSH comes calling, stay with us like Emery. UTV
