    This nation funded our government on Tariffs prior to the 1913. They should protect our citizens from unfair practices. We should not fund the CCP with our markets nor should we allow Mexico to get away with their complacency.

      we should be competitive without tariff protection, that is why they were repealed in 1913. Our leaders apparently knew more then about economies than Trump, because our economy outsold every other economy on the planet after our tariffs were repealed. Trump's tariffs have done nothing but create more inflation.
      Tariffs only make us more non-competitive and lazy.
      I would welcome Trump showing more intelligence this time, admit tariffs were wrong, and repeal them.

    Trump supporters tell the entire world they don’t travel abroad often. Every single time you leave the country and come back to the U.S, we have to fill out a customs form. 👀There’s always a question asking. Have you purchased any items in excess of $10,000, and if so, you have to declare the value and they tell you the taxes. So either they lie on the custom form or these people never travel. I’m so confused. Literally, every single time you come back into the country you have to fill out the customs form and declare the value of the goods that you purchased. So either they commit perjury, or they never ever travel outside of the country or likely both.

    While attending the Wharton School for my MBA in the early 90s, one thing that was repeatedly stressed was that you do not place tariffs on raw materials if the country you are placing the tariffs on has a way to retaliate. In doing so, the country that starts the tariff will cause prices to escalate for manufactured goods made in your country, and the raw goods you export will halt in the opposing country if they can quickly source that product domestically. That is why tariffs on finished products, such as EVs, solar panels, and batteries, do not affect the USA.

      @@mmedrano8334 - Companies use China because of speed to market, know how and flexibility Price is a secondary so tariffs did not increase jobs in the US. What the tariffs did do is increase almost everything by and average of 20%. If you spend 50k a year on goods from China your are paying 10k more a year. Now Trump wants to impose more tariffs. Another 20% bump is another 10K and China will still not lose business because of other factors mentioned. Speed, flexibility, know how. Another way to say it, US companies are slow, rigid and lack technical expertise. Steve Jobs coined these reasons why Apple uses China. Until USA factories become flexible, fast, and demonstrate in depth know how then jobs will come back to the US. Bear in mind know how is not because China is better educated, its because China factories are challenged with very high volume manufacturing on a daily basis. They gain this know how through the high volume orders they get. China factories hate to throw out bad quality parts because of the material cost lost especially.

    I am a 69 year old retired moderate independent voter who believes President Trump had the right idea on this. Free trade is not necessarily the same thing as FAIR trade - a point often lost on the free trade proponents. The problem is almost always going to be the labor differential. When foreign workers are making only a tiny fraction of U.S. labor wages AND have virtually little to no benefits, how can trade EVER be fair? Also, what business can resist going to a foreign country, when by doing so they can pay less wages, no benefits and have the ability to be almost regulation free? Businesses move there for all these reasons and we do nothing to stop it - to the detriment of our own country. In order to compete against such countries, we would be forced to choose between impoverishing our citizens by drastically lowering their wages, eliminating benefits and degrading our environment or losing our industrial and manufacturing base. If we lose most of what remains of our manufacturing and industrial base, which tends to pay much better wages then service jobs, most of the American middle class will disappear in time. What good are cheaper imports if our citizens do not make enough income in order to be able to afford to buy them? Tariffs are one way of compensating for these differentials and to encourage business to continue producing items in the United States. Some countries, such as China, are almost totally amoral when it comes to trade with the United States. China, as an example, routinely steals our intellectual property and technology and violates patents. They also encourage predatory business practices like dumping in order to put our businesses OUT of business so they can take over. Much of what they have stolen from us has allowed them to expand both their technology base and increase their military's capabilities. Our trade policy should be to encourage free trade that is FAIR trade while continuing to maintain a vigorous industrial and manufacturing base in the United States that keeps our citizens employed. If China wants to trade with us then there is nothing prohibiting them, or any other industrial country for that matter, to build manufacturing plants IN the United States in order to sell here on a level playing field.

    People are saying tariffs will raise prices. It might at first but if more citizens buy U.S. made products it will incentivize more companies to make more products here which will lower prices and create more jobs. If we don’t make China pay their fare share U.S. will always be dependent on them and give them power over us. It’s not an overnight solution but Trump’s thinking long term. U.S. manufacturing is out the window. It's never coming back. Unless you place tariffs on all foreign countries.
      The wheels have been set in motion since the Bretton Woods Agreement, the Petrol Dollar System among others. It make U.S.D. the global reserve currency. We're no longer even on the gold system anymore.
      This creates great demand on U.S.D. and makes other currencies weak for exchange rates.
      That's why U.S. manufacturing went overseas since the 1950s.
      Placing tariffs on China means factories go to cheaper countries of production. No different from Japan in the 60s - 70s, Korea, and Taiwan. Once it gets to expensive and there's somewhere cheaper, it goes there, never back to the U.S.
      If and when U.S. reserve currency goes away. It will collapse everything and we'll see hyperinflation when countries start dumping U.S.D. and U.S. Treasuries. The U.S. has far to much national debt.

    Almost every president in my lifetime has tried tariffs and eventually removed them because they don't work and cause the tariffed country to retaliate. Yes, they can be a negotiating tool in the short run. In the instance of Chine, tariffs have not put a dent in the trade imbalance, according to the US's own figures, because China's prices are so low to begin with, that making them 20% higher has no effect. I was watching another video arguing that while tariffs on Chinese goods do, in effect, raise the prices for the US (China doesn't pay the tariff, US consumers do), it only raised goods by 3-4%. Well, first, that is higher inflation. But that was before and during the pandemic, when prices were lower because of very low demand. We don't know exactly how much these tariffs have influenced today's inflation. However, logic dictates raising prices on these goods has to have had some effect.

    Trump did not know how this tariffs works. My CA company has to raise most of our products to our US consumers since Trump raise the 25%tariffs. Resulted prices increased for our large customers like Walmart, Costco...

      Your both wrong. Tariffs are ultimately paid by the consumer. It's not a leveraging tool. These countries dump their cheap goods on the world market and they are resold at greatly inflated prices because of supply and demand by 3rd party nations. The cost is ultimately paid for by consumers.

    • @imaprinta
      @imaprinta 2 месяца назад
