Excellent! You caught tribute to rancher/DK leader, local bike culture, history being made (350), new bikes, etc. I had skipped all but the 350 start, so this was a good way to catch-up. I’m working my way from 25 last year, 50 last saturday and will “apply” for 100 next.
The humidity, heat, and headwinds were SO brutal. I was really tempted to pull the plug at checkpoint two too, but pushed on and finished, in a little over 16 hours -- it was the hardest thing I've ever done. Props for giving it your best try and sharing with such open honesty. I'm still having trouble walking three days later, but already thinking about how I can improve for next year.
Its one stroke at a time.....over and over again. You got this! Good luck and I look forward to seeing that video of you two crossing that finish line!
Oh man, I made the mistake of watching part 1 when part 2 is not out yet, now I am left hanging... awesome content. Hope you guys did well, and PLEEZ put up part 2 soon!
you probably dont care but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Tyler Martin Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Cant wait for the next video! So glad you stopped and talked to Kona, my sutra is my fav bike of all time for sure....hope you two are recovering ok lol
Wish I'd seen you at the Expo, it was awsome. I'm sure that you're bummed about not making 200 miles, but as I told another friend of mine who dropped out where you did, Now is not the time to think about what you didn't do, it's the time to think about what you DID do. You did a lot. I didn't race yesterday, but rode 22 miles in Topeka in the middle of the afternoon, and I fully understand what 80 miles of headwind to get to back to Emporia looked like.
Really impressed you guys were able to get this video out so fast. Looking forward to part 2. We were at a gravel race yesterday talking about the DKXL, we are in eastern Idaho so a lot of people know the Petervarys personally, and the common comment was that they're awesome people but they're crazy! (and that was coming from the strongest guys there)
Hope all is well.. glad Salsa putting 650’s on the Warbird.. Supple time!! Looking forward to your next video.. Russ.. make some shirts with your logo... 🚵🏽♂️...SUPPLE LIFE
Wonderful video! I saw you in the crowds. I rode the DK50 2017 and finished the DK100 2018. I hope to be a finisher in 2019 of the DK200. I love your videos. I like that you call yourselves "mortal". We're all with you there. Kansas is a harsh environment, even for those of us who live here and train here. Looking forward to your next video.
I talked to the Salsa folks and they said those are prototype-only graphics are adamant that they won't release any geometry or colorways until the actual introduction later this year. So I don't expect the final version to be the same. However, I test rode a Warbird last year after my gravel bike got stolen and decided to buy another Giant because the WB was too steep in the front for me. This one looks longer and slacker.
Super nice vid. Really gives nice color on what the pre-race atmosphere is like there. Find all of your vids interesting. Full respect on your DK effort this year. I'm in Missoula from time to time... let's do a ride next time.
I like this channel a lot, awesome niche with pro content. I am planning in buying a hybrid trekking bike. I am very new to this, currently riding a Kronan with 1 gear haha. Starting from the bottom I guess. But I learn a lot from your videos.
wish you could have caught Rebecca Rusch on camera. She was first female and fourth overall on the DKXL! More women interviews please! It was fun following that race.
I love your videos , but can you bring down the volume of your interlude music, as Im constantly turning down the volume for the music then upping the volume for the speech, thanks
Prob do more interval work sooner. Move to a warmer place and acclimate to the heat before. As a true off the couch effort would train over a longer time line. So attempt DK100 the first year, continue training and DK200 the next.
different shots have different cages...dont know about the salsa branded ones but the others look like they might be specialized side entry cages on the down and seat tubes. if you like them also check out blackburn wayside side entry cages - very useful if you have a top tube bag

New Warbird looks amazing- thanks for showcasing the whole weekend
Behold! The power of Adventure Tourism.
The DK200 has completely and positively changed that region of Kansas.
Holy $hit... Mark handed me 4 beers to finish the Almanzo. Such a great dude.
Wow! This is first-rate coverage. Thanks for sharing your adventure across the Flint Hills.
Beautiful honest videos, keep it up. It’s what RUclips needs more of.

@Tyler Martin it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account !
@Jack Bowen happy to help :)
Cool video guys. This is definitely on my bucket list now.
Looks like a ton of fun...enjoy!

By now its all over. I hope you had a good experience.
Superb highlights! Hope y’all are surviving the heat..godspeed
Ladies at expo seemed so sweet😻 Kansas hospitality
New warbird looks sweet!! Love the new graphics as well.

Awesome video. Thanks!
Great video. I'd like to know what you did to prepare for the event. Thanks again.
We did a whole 14 part video series called #couch2kanza that covers it.
Yeah I see that. I wrote before I looked. I'll check it out and thanks.
GOOD LUCK!
That guy at 2:25 has an awesome radio voice.
Laura got the perfect Number, 200 for the DK200!
I like this channel a lot, awesome niche with pro content. I am planning in buying a hybrid trekking bike. I am very new to this, currently riding a Kronan with 1 gear haha. Starting from the bottom I guess. But I learn a lot from your videos.
What are the cages on the Warbird fork with the twist locks? Haven't seen a retention system like that before.
Great content, greetings from Amsterdam
Well done...
Does anybody know the brand/model of the titanium bike @ 0:55?
I use 1 litre bottles so can manage with less mounts and there is room on most of my bikes
The guy at 2:34 has such a radio voice :)
Great vídeo. It's a shame these bikes do not have it in Brazil.
Great video! I would LOVE to try the DK sometime in the future. Even if i fail I’ll atleast walk away with a T-Shirt haha
I love seeing Bobby from District Cycles he comes across as having the most genuine enthusiasm for the sport and people.
wish you could have caught Rebecca Rusch on camera. She was first female and fourth overall on the DKXL! More women interviews please! It was fun following that race.
Did I see a front shock on the Salsa War Bird (at 6:17)? I would love to buy that set-up.
Yeah. Good eye.
I love your videos , but can you bring down the volume of your interlude music, as Im constantly turning down the volume for the music then upping the volume for the speech, thanks
Russ, did you stock up on plaid shirts from Gravel City?
You should do a PLP Talks with Mark Stevenson!
Whats the best tread of tire to use and whats the best gear setup is best ? I'm looking at the Sram GX 1x12
Awesome!
Hey Iowa City and RAGBRAI shout out!
What would you do to train differently for next time?
Prob do more interval work sooner. Move to a warmer place and acclimate to the heat before. As a true off the couch effort would train over a longer time line. So attempt DK100 the first year, continue training and DK200 the next.
Warbird has interesting bottle cages. Does anyone know what are they? I am especially interested in those on fork -- since they are adjustable.
different shots have different cages...dont know about the salsa branded ones but the others look like they might be specialized side entry cages on the down and seat tubes. if you like them also check out blackburn wayside side entry cages - very useful if you have a top tube bag
They're arundel looney bin's on the fork. Ihave a few myself and they are great
