This is my favorite song from the movie, mostly because it's so quiet and peaceful, yet it has that war-like feeling of an army marching, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I love the movie and have been watching it since I was 2. Other kids watched Barney, I watched Gettysburg. =)
You know how many episodes of Barney I could have watched, as many times I have watched both tapes of this long-behind movie XD XD By the way, I wasn't a complete stranger to Barney either ;) Among many other childhood throwbacks
Likewise. History is my bread and butter. The South fought hard as hell, they were our brothers. Northern, Southern? Doesn't matter. We were Americans. Brothers should never fight. Next time, let fucking kill all the shitheels in Washington. They're overdue for a good throttling.
Always loved this scene and music. The one addition to the director's cut of Gettysburg I really loved was the extended scene of Gen. Reynolds issuing orders upon his arrival. John Rothman really sold the cool confidence of someone you'd want to have riding into the rescue.
They really should make an official Total War game for the Civil War. They've already made one game involving 19th century warfare (Fall of Samurai) and it was really good.
I would play as the British colony region of Canada just to see how the AI would play out the Civil War from the sidelines. Or maybe Mexico... if CA lets us play those factions other than Confederates and Union haha.
1:36 I love how the music quickly starts back up again. Almost as if to say, it doesn’t matter that someone important has just died, there’s still a raging battle happening
Makes me feel patriotic. To feel the pride, bravery & sacrafice of all & my relatives who fought in the continental army & Pennsylvania union forces at Gettysburgh.
I've loved this song ever since I first heard it. It's based on the song "Hell on the Wabash." I used to do Civil War reenacting and every time our field music would strike up "Hell On The Wabash", I would straighten up and pick up the pace.
Totally agree!!! One of my all-time favorite cinematic albums. "The First Battle" and "The Main Title" are my top favorite tracks but "Fife and Gun" will always be #1 out of the whole album. Randy Edelman did a wonderful job with the whole soundtrack. My parents bought the CD back in the 90's And hearing this over 20 years later brings back so many memories of watching this move with all my siblings.
Honestly, my favorite song in this movie. Every time I hear it I just picture Pickett’s brigade marching through the smoke towards the Union line. Soo badass. It’s just “Hell of the Wabash” played slowly over a light guitar, in case you were wondering.
After Buford's dismounted cavalry engaged Harry Heth's Confederate troops on the first day of the battle, General Reynolds' infantry arrived to counterattack. This song plays during the attack, just after the infantry are seen advancing up the Chambersburg Pike to the fife and drum tune of "Hell on the Wabash". The part at 1:17 is when General Reynolds is shot from his horse by a Confederate sharpshooter.
This tune also represents well the terrifying reality, changes, and horrors that can be brought on by a war, so much happens you don't know what's right or wrong anymore, the only thing you know is how to fight and defend yourself, nothing else matters at that point.
You and France ALMOST stuck yourselves into it (hell, it was part of the rebel strategy to try and win) but several snags arose (including but not limited to) slavery had both of you telling the Confederacy thanks but no thanks.
Actually some native Germans who moved to the US years before fought. However they didn't get very far because they weren't johnny bulls. Hence they were treated like shit like all the rest of the European immigrants.
Black Hats off to the 19th Indiana , 2nd , 6th & 7th Wisconsin as well as the 24th Michigan ! "Forward Men ... Iron Brigade Forward !!!" ~ Major General John Fulton Reynolds
@@orbitingsentientsatellite4361 idc i just want to see battles i don't care a lick for who was right or wrong i just want epic charges and honourable commanders.
If any newbies to civil war fandom are wondering the fife notes you hear in the song are from a tune called "Hell On The Wabash" which whilst essentially being the "theme"of the Brigade wasn't played BY them at Gettysburg, instead they are said to have used a different tune called "The Campbells Are Coming"
now I'm no expert on battle and war but i feel this movie is more realistic as far as action goes, the man gets shot he goes down. no flailing around and no blood fountains, but i've never been in a battle before so what would i know
@ViccardXViccc Actually yes in a couple shots during the cannonade for Pickett's charge. Because I actually know what to look for I can see the scene of our gun detachment firing at our gun detachment, since we portrayed both sides. I have to admidt it was a very interesting thing to participte in. I consider it my 15 min.s of fame.
@AirborneDivisionLand If you think the finished movie is long, you should see the stuff they left out. I was one of the reenactors in this movie and when it started it was to have been at least a 3 part mini-series for Turner Networks.
My great, great, great, great Grandfather Comer Phillips was with the 56th Pennsylvania volunteer Infantry Company G. Who was a Sharpshooter. I don't know which battles he was in, but he was killed
A musical blend of the quaint and the ominous. Revolutionary War tactics about to clash with meatgrinder firepower at the threshold of the Industrial Revolution.
We're is the other version of this song? The orchestral plays it one. The version that's used in the North and south mod for Napoleonic wars. Link If possible :)
INtresting. And nice. THough hancock and union second corps had it better then your grandfather and his second corps but I respect your grandfather never the less.
Mr.. Confederate man, I'd like to shake your hand, for giving your life for Dixie land, Mr. Confederate man. - Rebel Son. The eyes of Texas are upon you.
I see. But the second corps that hancock lead had more battle honors and other items then any other corps in the federal army not to mention your grandfather and his corps would be jelous of that. But then again I do not want to intude and inslult your gradfather in any way.
My Great Great Great Grandfather was a Johnston. It is interesting the irony in having the infantry "ride" to the rescue of the cavalry.
@@drakonos79 lol yeah, it’s usually the other way around.
If they ever make a "Total War" game in the Civil War era, this would be a great song for the title screen.

Mexico was fighting a war with France during the Civil War.
Ultimate General Civil War
This is the battle card music for ACW
This always gives me chills and this is one of my favorites in the soundtrack
Same here. gives me goosebumps all over. Love it!!!
It actually brings tears to my eyes, so much death was brought from this war between brothers. over 750,000++ deaths.

God bless the Union!!!!!!!

William Taliaferro so inspirational ❤️
I love this. My favorite music from the film!

Sadly most of General Reynold's Iron Brigade has only 2 days till retirement.....high five to anyone who gets that.
My great great great uncle was under the command of General Reynolds at Gettysburg.

The Iron Brigade, were they also known as the "Black Hats"?
They were.
Confederate soldiers were reported to have said at Gettysburg," That aint no militia,ITS THEM BLACK HATTED FELLERS! ITS THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC!"
"Forward! For God's sake, forward!"
Reminds me "Firefly" which was sf opera based a little on wild west and civil war.
The fife and drum piece that immediately precedes "Fife And Gun" is "Hell On The Wabash". There are several renditions of the tune on RUclips.
Love this
Thanks, the part where Reynolds is shot I remember now. Guess I'll have to see the movie again =)

omg it was soooooo long, but not as long as Gods and Generals.,,,,,and that movie wasnt as good as this
Gods and Generals was a disgrace. Gettysburg was, by far, the superior movie (although the soundtracks were amazing in both).
