If it wasn't for Marcus Freeman you don't even get your foot in the door with Deuce Knight. To compare Basketball recruiting to football recruiting is crazy. The Basketball program got a kid 40 miles from campus Indiana puts out great basketball players. Indiana isn't a hotbed for football talent the few good players that the State has produced the last three years guess what Marcus has landed them. Don't get me wrong this is a problem Marcus Freeman has to fix and he is failing to do that with his teams play on the field.
So glad that Knight pulled the plug early in October. The last-minute decommits are the worst. ND can recover. Wish the young man well at Auburn. Go Irish. If Carr or Minchey fulfill their promise ... it won't matter ... Knight would have transferred anyway.
This is the right answer
"I was really enjoying your podcast until the part about hand-wringing over Marcus Freeman's ability to attract five-star recruits. Let's keep things in perspective-Freeman’s recruiting efforts are already ahead of Brian Kelly's. For example, Freeman's 2023 class was ranked 10th nationally by 247Sports, while Kelly’s average class ranking during his last five years at Notre Dame hovered around 13th to 15th. As you mentioned, South Bend isn’t exactly a hotbed for talent, with fewer than 10% of top recruits coming from the Midwest in recent years. Improvement takes time, but Freeman is clearly moving the program in the right direction, with the talent pipeline continuing to grow.
And his classes are getting worse. ND is ranked 13th now
Exactly…..! What the anti freeman crowd is failing to understand (more importantly accept!) is this…there are players that have committed to and are considering ND that NEVER would’ve had Kelly stayed. We’ve lost some huge 5star players. However, what 5 star’s ESPECIALLY at (premium positions) were the Irish even IN ON this late in the recruiting process? Of course, recruiting needs to get better. However, why is it so difficult for some to admit that recruiting is CLEARLY heading in a different direction than the previous regime. Even an honest, CURSORY assessment of the secondary gives you proof. We are not consistently where we need to be yet. However, that takes time! Let it cook!!!
Copy and save this. We are now much better off he’s going where going to class is an option, and where they probably are paying him much more money than he’s worth. The kid is a jerk, yeah a kid, but by stringing us along he’s has proven he’s not Notre Dame stock. Good riddance.
@@xandercrews4729
While recruiting rankings are important, let’s not forget about the on-field results. In his first season as head coach (2022), Marcus Freeman went 9-4, which included a victory in the Gator Bowl. In comparison, Brian Kelly’s first three seasons at Notre Dame (2010-2012) saw him post records of 8-5, 8-5, and 12-1. So, while Kelly had a breakthrough in his third year, Freeman is already close to Kelly's early performances, and with better recruiting classes, the future looks bright for Notre Dame under Freeman’s leadership.#facts
@@SuperJraw1 cool, can’t wait until they flip the shitty 3* from coastal Carolina
I love your review of the quarterbacks .
Notre Dame has been recruiting very well. Just need a new QB not the end of the world
This is the problem of running a 30-year out-of-date offense. It is too hard to bring in great QBs and WRs. That Lenard decision is one of the worst in Irish history.
Lol, it's cool though. Denbrock said he's installing a Flux Capacitor on the campus DeLorean... 😁✌🏽
In 3 SENTENCES you told EVERYONE out there, you KNOW NOTHING about ND Football.
knapp and pendleton dont start next year. Wagner, Lambert, Craig, Shrouth, Jagesuh is the starting O line
Lambert would be a giant guard
@@TrainerNick256 from what I heard, jagusah could be a guard
@@ZB_Snickers All that matters is the best 5 olinemen in the starting lineup. Our current tackles are really light and the guards have been penalized alot this year. Next years line will be experienced and bigger
This is what ND needs to do. Bring in the next Quentin Nelson, Mike McGlinchey and Joe Alt. Protect CJ Carr and ND will have a championship team because CJ is going to win the Heisman Trophy imho.
jagusah and lambert are projected to be that. cj needs to win the qb job next spring. it's that simple
what a ridiculous take.. he is not a mobile QB all he can do is be a very mid'ish thrower . Where do you come up with this crap lol ? Leonard is the only QB on ND who could ever think about being a Heisman and even that isn't happening. You're talking about D2, D3 guys like they're the next big thing. Not happening bud. You need a reality check. Look at what Manning can do.. if you think ANY ND QB can even do 1/2 of that you're insane

@@FrosteeTheNoMan keep laughing moron clown because you know nothing about football or QB's rofl
Angeli loses to Louisville and A&M. The O line just wasn't good in pass protection
@@ZB_Snickers but he beats NIU and I honestly might take losses to A&M & Louisville over the loss to NIU. Leonard sucks so bad, how is he not ashamed of himself?
@@xandercrews4729 I hear ya, but IF we end the year at 11-1 we make the playoffs. If we were 3-2 right now, we would be out of the playoffs. So I guess it comes down to how much you want to build for the future vs try to make the playoffs. AND we don't know if maybe minchey is better than both Leonard/angeli. We just don't know. I don't think playing Carr this season would be responsible considering how bad the O line is. Too tough for a freshman

@@FrosteeTheNoMan I’m dead serious.
The Navy game and every other game scares the hell out of me
He is not a loss. When he played in Nashville in high school against quality opposition he looked BAD....he tucked his tail and went back to small town MIss. Also, played ND for every dime he could get. Like Peyton Bowen, he will become invisible at Auburn
Yeah ... Peyton Bowen was not "invisible" as a FR. He was excellent, and that was a big loss for ND.

I am still disgusted that we threw the ball on 2nd & 1 from midfield with 5:55 left while leading NIU 14-13. So unbelievably irresponsible! I've got a strong belief that CJ is going to be exceptional with Minchey as a back up. I just wish they were both getting more game-time play to prepare for next year.
So true I couldn’t of said it better. You’re quarterback grows with your team. Quit bringing in transplants.
@@johnmercer8490while I certainly agree with your overall sentiment regarding QB development-Angeli as starter in 24' was a sure-fire path to 9-3 this season and Vs a schedule that demands 12-0 or 11-1 at worst.
He's a solid backup, however, and absolutely should have been inserted Vs NIU once Freeman & staff was no longer confident in RL's ability to run the football.
I was surprised Knight hung around as long as he did in the first place...he is not beating out Carr...who is likely at ND for 2-3 years. Shrug. Get olinemen please.
They're getting good O-linemen, they just need a year or two in the weight room and adding weight.
In 2 years Duece Knight will be playing at San Jose St
Or at Ochalachee State.
I am so glad someones talking about how many of these QBs are busts intelligently. Something that should be mentioned. In the days of NIL, you have a limited amount of money to throw at guys. Elite defensive end prospects are rarely busts. Elite RBs are rarely busts. Elite WRs, rarely busts. More mental positions, like QB and LB, busts all the time. IMO, you should be throwing money at the guys you know are pretty likely to pan out, at super physical positions. D line, WR, RB. Then you can figure it out at QB with a guy like Angeli. Stetson Bennett was a 2 star. I want a decent qb behind a super physical o line throwing to great receivers, not hoping we get some franchise defining player like Deshaun Watson (pains me to say bc of off the field stuff but he changed everything for Clemson). There just aren't that many of those guys out there.
Not really a loss to be honest. I think it brings clarity to the program. Now the irish really just need an Ian Book type of player. A reliable back-up that can get thrown in the fire if needed.
Knight SAW what most everyone else SAW.....C.J. Carr! Nuff said.
Keep bringing in huge O Linemen
Your point and stats about QB busts are exactly why getting an elite QB each year is necessary and not getting Moore and Knight is not good. We need to increase the odds of a “hit”. This is what Ohio State does each year. They recruit multiple elite QBs each year and usually one of them will hit.
Imagine thinking Dante Moore is any better a QB prospect than Minchey... 😬🤦🏽♂️
@@FrosteeTheNoManWould Oregon take Minchey in the transfer portal the way they took Moore? Nope. And those people can evaluate QBs a lot better than you or I. Lol 😂 But that’s not the point I was making in my original post. The point is it’s a numbers game and you can’t predict the future. This is why the best teams get top QBs in each recruiting class. Pete Sampson of Irish Illustrated and The Athletic wrote an in depth article on this very topic a year or two ago. You should go and read it.
Tyler, a lot of 5stars are busts, great research! My question is why did ND lose Duce? What it brining in portal QB’s?😊
There’s 32 5* in each class, the hit rate is still way higher
The people that run ND (board of Trustees) don’t give a flying f*** about Notre Dame football. The boards of SEC schools care about winning, ours care about academia and pushing their narratives.
ND has an ND problem
I just think Knight became a big deal after his ND commit, and some SEC schools came at him hard ... none more so than Auburn. They turned his head. I wish him well, unless he plays against ND. I don't really see any angle in which "bringing in portal QBs" was a factor. I think Carr + Minchey is likely a bigger factor.
CJ Carr will be a star
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” - Wayne Gretzky”
- Michael Scott
I got him on video walking out bummer I think he could be great.
Cmon forget about this Deuce character, he doesnt belong at Notre Dame, his word is not his bond.
Cross/Mills is an interesting dynamic. Cross lacks the measurables, but when healthy excels. Mills has the measurables (labeled as a "freak"), but his production seems to lag. If ND is going to make a big move this season, one thing I think needs to happen is for Mills to reach his potential.
MILLS Has NO FIRE IN THE BELLY !
@@michaelkraus4135No Diddy!
If CJ Carr wins the QB battle with Kenny, Kenny might transfer and Angeli will stay. Thats a more likely scenario than Kenny riding the bench for 3 years behind CJ. Or vice versa.
Where are the tight ends
Crying, sulking.. throwing their helmets. 🎉☘😁
I’ve never understood the obsession with the movements of 18 and 19 year old kids. But now with NIL & The Portal? I couldn’t care less because these kids will jump on you in a heartbeat. So don’t emotionally invest in them, and dont rely on the unreliable. Just say peace out and move on.
Bc recruiting matters. How do you think teams win titles? Magic?
@@xandercrews4729 Yeah, recruiting matters. But relying on service rankings is kind of dim. If you just look at last year's NC game teams (Michigan and Washington), they were nowhere near the top of recruiting in the years that preceded that game. ND had much better recruiting "ratings" than both ... and hugely better than Washington. So, yeah, recruiting matters ... but that needs to be about getting great players, and sometimes great players are recruited without having great ratings by the services.
@@dashx1103 Michigan was an outlier. Before them, all of the teams that won titles in the playoff era, except Clemson, had top 5 classes
@@xandercrews4729 But it still shows that what is important is getting good-to-great players, .. regardless of recruiting ratings. Michigan was an outlier? Ok. What was Washington? They got the NC game without ever having a top recruiting class. I get that the top teams (Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, etc.) tend to attract top talent, and that talent tends to get highly rated ... it is kind of circular, in some respects.
But my point is simply that you need great players, regardless of how many stars are attached to their names. I'll take Benjamin Morrison all day long. I'll take X Watts every time. I'll take JOK all day long. I think people just get too hung up on the recruiting services and individual rankings and ratings. That is my take, anyway. And, if nothing else, last year's NC game proves that you can recruit championship level talent without having high rankings. That's all I'm saying.
Go get some WR with 4.3 speed (something that Irish never gets).
Right but why don’t you go out and find em ok !!!!!!
Mitch Evans may be one of the best, but in order to prove it, you have to have a QB who can throw it to him...
