Been watching you for years and will continue to watch you. Still remember when I first watch you Zac doing the survival videos. I love the shameless plugs of your sponsors. Great videos.
It actually relaxes me when I have a specific project at hand that my mind can concentrate on. If I am sitting on the couch "relaxing," all I do is think of all the stuff that needs to be done. Lol.
You are actually not supposed to have any heat for them, not unless you are planning on heating them always and people up here never do that. They actually do much better with cold vs heat but at his age, he needs to stay out of any drafts and have a deep bed of hay or straw.
Give yourself enough flexibility in your enclosure to get the loader bucket close to shovel manure. I raised a steer in a small building and the urine and manure adds up fast and can get out of control.
Thanks for sharing Joe, glad you got the enclosure ready for the new calf. That insulation will really help keep the guesthouse and work shop a lot warmer this winter. Stay safe and keep up the great videos, Fred.
Just out of curiosity, and maybe you've already answered this question - Do you not like cordless circular saws? Think it would be more convenient than carrying a portable power station and extension cord around. Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Makita all have great options available. Awesome video btw. I enjoy them all Joe.
If ya have a large dog crate, ya could haul the calf in it. We used the all the time for grown goats n baby calves. Also, if you bought the twins ya could use the bull once, send him to freezer camp. Buy ya another bull for breeding, including the other twin heffier.
You might want to think about getting a calf blanket and adding some supplemental heat. The baby’s thermoregulation system takes a minimum of 45 days to start working properly and it can get chilled very easily. During extreme cold it will need extra milk in order to maintain its body temperature. Perhaps Mesa could be in there with him.
A heifer calf born twin to a bull calf is called a Free MARTIN….AND IF MESSA has a bull calf no way you should raise the calf thinking it could breed his mother…seems like it would be a lot less expensive to just breed MESSA artificially rather than than having a bull around the farm.
The way I see it you are taking on a new family, with new breading and weather you are going to have this done buy your own bull. Talk to someone about having a bull ground for hamburger versus a steer they may have a good opinion that you should know.
What happened to the tellahandler you had? Couldn’t you use that to feed the bales you wouldn’t have to keep putting on and taking off the bale spikes off the tractor then
@@NorthernSeclusionlife in general Joe. Until you start paying my bills etc, keep you opinions to yourself is my philosophy. I’m like you in the regard that I spend most of my time alone so I figure out how to manage my life. Been retired for 8 years now and I just turned 64 so I figure I’m doing something right. Enjoy watching and it’s great your getting new subscribers
I was just thinking the same thing. Joe and Melissa get done in one week more than any of the trash talkers get done in a year. Hard work taping those Keyes.
That's sad taking that calf away from its mom so young. I live in Mason City, IA and we have tons of deer all over town and I've seen big bucks also, we must not have wolf problem around here 🥴
To me, it is obvious you make bread from the same stock, just like sisters and brothers don't breed you have so many complications down the road same genes don't mix
Just the opposite, How can we keep it warm but not too warm. Cows do not need heat. Stay tuned, he is doing awesome and it is below zero outside right now and windy.
you just need to tighten the zipper slider on your jacket use needle nose plyers and close gape evenly on both sides of slider, you may need a girl to figure this out for you, ha ha
Wtf? Another great video, none the less. You're right the video is all over the place and out of sequence.. It's alright, I understand.. Stay safe and have a great day.🤓👍🤓👍.Randy
These videos are part of his income. There is a LOT of work that goes into making, editing and uploading a video. His sponser(s) pay him to advertise their product(s) and he probably gets a piece of whatever someone buys using his code. His mentioning of the Jackery in this video is MINIMAL compared to some other channels I watch.

Don’t you ever relax Joe? Watching you work hard makes me want to take a nap afterwards and actually rest on you behalf 😅… great content as always!

An inclosure and a heater will be a great help to a new calf. thanks for sharing.

All good Joe you a man of so many talents i rember seeing you driving with the calf in the back seat so some where you got a calf !!!
I swear Joe you were born with a skill saw in your hand.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Melissa your families
I had the same zipper problem on my new luggage. RUclips showed me to gently squeeze with pliers the base of the zipper pull. It worked! Good luck!

Hopefully you will put some straw on that floor for the bottle calf, and you should feed it 3 bottles if it's that young,
If you would have actually listened..he said he was going to put hay in.🙄
Actually 2 bottles a day. Half gallon each time. That recommendation is from multiple farmers including the one we bought it from.
Is that shelter not a bit cold for a newly born calf. Surely it should be closed in on all sides ?
Have to have a bit of ventilation otherwise it creates condensation and the calf will get frostbite
@ true but it needs to be warm too
Surely not.
That calf will be froze to death it's first week there!!
Mikefoss is the only one in this thread that posted a stupid ass comment.
Thanks Joe! Always enjoy your channel!
Awesome video Joe. Like the new jacket.
Fyi, heifers are usually not fertal when they are a twin to a bull calf.
This is about the 4th time someone has mentioned this even though I talked about exactly what you said in this video.
@NorthernSeclusion i was babysitting a 6 month old while I was watching. You were entertaining me, and I was entertaining him, I guess I missed it.🤠
Is the bull calf A2A2 certified???
Not certified yet, we will send the tail hairs in to get tested like we did with Mesa but both his parents are a2a2 so its certain that he will be.
@NorthernSeclusion that's good

And during that 45 days they can get pneumonia really easy…try it eliminate as much drafts as you can..

He only has to be around long enough to breed Mesa and then he can be processed.
👍👍
Joe your calf need warm dry bedding especially since he is so young. Straw or use grass.
Happy Thanksgiving! Awesome Video Joe! You do amazing work!
Do you live in in Leader Minnesota
What brand of saw blades do you use in your circular saw?
Marathon are my favorite. Carbide, 24T. They are by FAR my favorite.
The way I see it you are taking on a new family, with new breading and weather you are going to have this done buy your own bull. Talk to someone about having a bull ground for hamburger versus a steer they may have a good opinion that you should know.
Can you please tell me the name of your other channel I keep missing it lol
You could always butcher the heifer when big enough or sell it.
What happened to the tellahandler you had? Couldn’t you use that to feed the bales you wouldn’t have to keep putting on and taking off the bale spikes off the tractor then
I can't believe how many people didn't hear you say there will be hay in the calf area...DUH !!
Looking at a lot of the comments seems a lot of people telling you what to do I know you won’t listen to them 😂😂😂
I know right? I learned long ago with the RUclips channels that the "I do not give a flying F" what people think was my only way to stay sane.
@@NorthernSeclusion a lot of subs offer some very good suggestions!

I’ve seen buckets with nipples on them used to feed calves. You just dump in the milk and away they go
Hey Joe , curious if you butchered and ate a turkey for Thanksgiving
Lol. No, they are still out there eating me out of house and home. Melissa bought a 19 pound turkey from the store. Haha.
Joe has to start getting meat other ways because the deer has abandoned him lol
Never in my life have I had a venison steak or chop or backstrap that was even a third as good as beef. Lol.
Awesome Joe, thanks for sharing! 👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Happy Thanksgiving
Can you imagine how much more he would get done if he didn't stop to talk. Joe is an animal worker
I was just thinking the same thing. Joe and Melissa get done in one week more than any of the trash talkers get done in a year. Hard work taping those Keyes.
That won't be too cold a space for a 6 day old calf? We always kept them in a warm barn. Good luck!
Hey Joe, how do I send you a note about a product you mentioned. All good, thanks
You can email me. homeandcabininc@outlook.com
we put them in 100# grain bags

how r u going to keep the calf warm enough ?
He don't give 2 shits...
Just the opposite, How can we keep it warm but not too warm. Cows do not need heat. Stay tuned, he is doing awesome and it is below zero outside right now and windy.
The only thing I do not give 2 shits about is mikey boys stupid comment.
Did you say the heifer is a twin to your bullcalf, don't buy her she probably won't bred.
Your not busy enough you need to a part time job😂
Need to go to auction and buy a breeding bull that’s young and can breed for few years then to butchers and buy another breeder bull
This one will be able to breed between 12 and 14 months. Then grow it out to 2 years old and then off for processing.
Looked like a dewalt saw to me
when will you fill that ditch that is in your way and dangerous to you
It is only dangerous if you are stupid. I will get to it when I get to it.
@@NorthernSeclusion then I guess I will be done watching you anymore
