I am a classically trained oil painter, and I am so glad that an uploader such as yourself shows that there isn't always only one way to start and finish a painting. I just loathed that about school. I understand that they are trying to teach the students the way the old painters used to (great masters and whatnot) but still, I believe from research into my BFA and thesis work that they masters used stuff like this too.
Secondly, I just love the way you paint the negative spaces. I think people forget the basics of painting objects in a painting... you are painting a landscape no just one tree... you have to paint everything even if the things you are painting are negative spaces between the leaves etc. Beautiful work. My work tends to be a bit more impressionistic, but good on ya!

    Michael James Smith, Master Painter.
I have been watching your tutorial video's and needless to say you have inspired back to my easel. I like your inclusion of techniques, limited pallet, even details of slicing brush bristles. I discovered you many months ago in my search for inspiration to break through the block holding a tight grip on me, it pushed me into therapy, along with my study of you at work is informative without presenting your viewers quality video. Your manner is thorough without patronising; I feel like you are teaching me personally. I can answer many questions I've read in comments section so I have learned a good deal. my approach will be guided by your example. I am pleased to say you have been singly most important to breaking through the wall, this is a good time to begin. I look forward to more to come. I wish the best for you and yours in this new year. Ramesh Rai ..As of 2018, there are 94 dislikes and over 6,000 likes. But your question remains.
I think it is not unreasonable to feel that a time lapse video of someone painting is of little instructional value.
The photo reference is not shown.
The color choices are not explained.
The type of brush used to create the various textures is not made clear.
For someone who is looking for instruction, this can be very frustrating.

Michael, I just found you yesterday, and very impressed. We have one thing in common, I am an Auto Painter, and painting for 42 years, so I know colours as you do.
I just get too engrossed watching you fine tune you work with layer over layer, and soon the entire picture SORT OF comes into focus. Like the saying goes,
A PICTURE PAINTS A THOUSAND WORDS. I would gladly change from Painting Cars to Painting on Canvas, just too burnt on with Painting Cars. Not sure if you reply to comments as I don't see any, but keep the beautiful strokes going. Regards from California.
