As a jazz pianist of some 60 years, I'd love to say how hellishly difficult stride piano is. This wonderful lady has single handily revived the skill of what was invented in the early part of the 20th century. She's accurate with her left hand, and the right hand is tastefully busy also. Then put together and you're in a whole new area of difficulty. I have been forced to get practising once again. Brilliant.
"Single handedly" is an over statement. There are others who have contributed to the revival of stride. Stephanie Trick, for example. But I rank Jimin up there. I love both of them and others. I look forward to all older forms of jazz continuing to have a life and even growing more.
@@GrahameGould Trick indeed, and the very distinguished pianist with whom she has on occasion played duets, Dick Hyman, who has been flying the flag for stride (and SO MUCH else!) for a great many decades.
I'm so envious of those who can bring beauty into the world. Be it music, drawing, painting, dancing, or any other form of creation. It's truly wonderful to experience the beauty people bring to the world ❤
I sure you already do, but you can as well! I went from drawing lopsided stick figures to pretty good (cartoon-y) illustrations. It took quite a while but it wasn't hard, I just kept plugging away at it my whole life. Drawing something just for myself every now and then.
You can too! You just did some through a few, well chosen, kind words ❤ New techniques are there to be learned! It's a messy and a joyous process. Never give up!
I feel the same way, I was born without an artistic bone which makes me appreciate people that have one so much more. I also appreciate people that know the difference between envious and jealous!
Left hand like a… man I don’t even know Just so solid and reliable sounding. You almost can tune it out and be led by the melody. That’s how good it is. And it’s even better than that.
Who needs rock'n'roll?! 😊 You can read about Django Reinhardt life, some songs swing a bit like this, the audience often went crazy, teenagers breaking chairs ! Speaking about Rock'n'roll in the 80's you could be 12 and discover Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and all listening to a tape, while 'new wave' DX7 were haunting through cities speakers... You had to have a strong character to admit you like RnR !! It was easier to appreciate jazz when kids were learning piano, classic playing was the rule. Thanks Scott Joplin... That makes me think when we talk about great musicians we don't forget Mozart and Bach, but Art Tatum ?! Your music made me feel completely awake 🎉 Congratulations 👏
I’m an old man, and that’s the first hotel piano I’ve ever heard in tune.
Is it? Haha
It's not super in tune, but that's actually perfect for this kind of music.
@
It’s closer to being in tune than any public piano I’ve ever heard. 😂
At least it’s recognizable! 😎
Switzerland.
I agree 👏🏻

It isn't single-handed, she's clearly using both hands

I can’t imagine how two hands do separate tasks, both very complicated.
Playing like that should be joyful. Bless her. I hope she continues to play for 90 years more.
Nothing like upbeat piano jazz from the roaring 20s. Bravo young lady. You have serious chops.
Stride with the afterburner on. That is amazing!
She's Great! I love this!❤
All I heared wuz "Oh yah, really ? Hold my beer ! ! "
The best that piano has ever felt!
TY for spending countless practice hours to reach this pinnacle of prowess for all our ears to enjoy. You go girl!!!

Beautiful comment. Bless you.
Don't be envious, you already bring beauty and love with your comment !

"the greatest" of all piano players?
@redwarf8118Perhaps among the modern stride piano players, i think. But it's True, you have also Lucas Sestak, Ladyva, Stéphanie Trick, ...
@@patcauch i kind of agree that she is the greatest betwen modern stride piano players, imo
