      You could try that! But it'd be more uncomfortable I reckon cause it's not as grippy...

      I've been researching into building marimbas and found a fantastic website at Delfords magic plan (google it if you're interested)

    Adam, this is absolutely my new favorite RUclips Channel (Wrapping my Balter Blues right now). I've been waiting for what seems like forever for a keyboard focused percussion channel. As a gear head myself, I love the focus that you have on equipment. That being said, you are an insanely talented player (having watched your graduate recital), and I would love to see some technique videos from you! Are you aware of the Channel "Marimbalogy"? Each episodes he focuses on a particular technique and goes in depth with it.
    Again, I never want you to stop making these product reviews. Love the channel, and hope this takes off very soon.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks so much for your kind comments! (look forward to seeing them wraps!) I have seen Marimbalogy's videos, wish he still made them because they were indeed very informative. I am really keen to do a technique video but I'm not sure how to go about it just yet, mainly because I still have a lot to learn myself... but thank you very much for your support :)

    An alternative to tape: foam pencil grips. They're the perfect size to fit tightly onto mallet shafts, you can adjust them to pad just the right parts of your grip, and you can quickly remove them or put them back on (for whatever reason). They've been a life saver!

    I use electric tape because I bought a bunch to wrap my sticks and honestly they are great for grip and easy to use. Also it comes in so many colors and is pretty cheap.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your great tips! I love your videos! ❤
    I'm just wondering if the weight of the tape will evoke some kind of counteraction on the mallet? I don't want my mallets to be unbalanced after taping them 😉.
    Thank you for your answer!

    Have you every tried anything other than tennis grip? I used to use tennis grip but it felt kind of "bulky" in my hands, I've recently switched to using hockey tape. It covers with a thin layer while keeping my hands dry during performances. A single roll ($4.99) was able to wrap all of the mallets I needed to wrap and theres still some left!

    "Yup!"
    I actually didn't even think of the shock absorption. I feel like the customization is a good point, too. Kinda like guitarists with all their different guitars and picks :)
    I also like that you've made so much effort to make good quality RUclips videos in addition to having great content.

    If I am from the United States, how could I come across the metallic reflective tape you’re using? I have only been able to find hold and silver, and even then it’s at minimum a 1/2” thick. The tape you’re using looks much cleaner and slimmer than that, though my eyes could be playing tricks on me..

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  7 лет назад +1

      That tape is gift wrapping tape :) You can usually find it at any gift store or arts and craft store, it's usually just meant for embellishments. I think Amazon also sells some, and sometimes it's called washi tape!

    Does anybody know if regular stick tape would work too? My school has a bunch of rolls of tape for marching snare, tenor, bass, all those sticks. So I'm wondering if that will work the same. I assume so, but better safe than sorry.
    Unrelated, for my mallets that have a white head, what color do you guys think would look best? I'm very indecisive so any opinions would be appreciated.

    Ive got rotation IV by Eric Sammut as my four mallet solo and my percussion teacher is saying that my mallets are too soft, right now I am using marimba ones rsb3's and I need a harder cheaper mallet, my price range is 60- 100 american dollars for a set of four mallets, do you have any suggestions?

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  7 лет назад

      I would probably say Vic Firth Robert Van Sice m114s, they have more of an edge than the round sounds and weight-wise they are a little bit lighter but not by much, and you can get them for $35 a pair :)

    What microphone do you use for your voice and your marimba? Ive been using a blue snow ball over the higher end of my marimba and it sounds ok. I should probably invest in more mics but the blue snowball covers all of my 4.3 octave marimba.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  7 лет назад

      Ah the snowball's not bad! I use the Rode VideoMic Pro for my talking and 2 x Behringer C-2's + Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 to record my marimba stuff. I've got a video on my channel about my recording setup here if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/xrDyQ2PJ-5c/видео.html 😁

      Yea I realized that you had a video on it. This was one of the first videos I saw and instantly I subscribed and watched almost every video on your channel lol. Keep making awesome videos because there aren't very many percussionist RUclipsrs.
      PS: I ordered the Ikea skubb and I'm going to make a mallet wall right by my marimba, I only have a couple pairs of mallets so I only got 1 skubb but I still think it is going to look very cool.

    Hellos this is Connor McElroy I play vibraphone in a indoor percussion group called fusion percussion I have many suggestions but first I would like to say that I think you are a great percussionist/ judge of mallets now for suggestions I think that you should make a channel/playlist called Adam performs (your choice really) and finally if you could start doing vibe mallets the one I am interested in are the malletech samuels ds18s about the performing channel play cool songs that are more pop again it is your choice
