- This is the Final Stage theme from the fanmade Touhou game published by danmaq, Touhou Mutsuigeki ~ Concealed the Conclusion

Everything hurts. Every muscle in your body is screaming at you, begging you to stop, to give up, to just collapse and sleep forever. But you don't. You fight back, your intentions to see Reimu this one last time giving you the strength to retaliate. As usual, your spiritual being triumphs over your physical one, but this has led to your downfall on more than one occasion, and you know this. Despite it all, you keep walking.
But this dream hasn't given up on its efforts in trying to stop you, as once again, Death extends her lovely hand to you from above, as you look into her eyes, which have softened into a warm, deep pink glow instead of the sharp scarlet blaze which had encompassed it earlier. Her smile is friendly, graceful, and inviting, and you notice your hand subconsciously drifting upwards to grasp her outstretched one; you can feel yourself losing your grip, as your soul begins to slip away from your being. But you notice the strange third pair of eyes behind hers; in fact, the multiple pairs, staring out of the abyss at you. You realise what's happening, and instead grab your weapons and plow your way through the deadly duo, matching the onslaught of ghostly pale butterflies and reality shattering spells with your own magic power, backed by the fragments of Reimu's own power that you've been collecting on your journey. You pray that it's enough.
Now you've reached your limit. You're teetering on the edge of oblivion, and it still stings where your soul has been tugged at and pulled and yanked by Yuyuko's ability; one she swore she'd never use again. But you've realised how desperate everyone's become; they all knew what would happen, every single one of them. You're practically hauling yourself across the ground, the unkind terrain scraping your shins and knees as you give in and fall heavily to the floor.
But that soft, white glow catches your eyes - you look up, expecting to see that ghost girl or the border witch standing in front of you, preparing to finish you off. What you do see stuns you. It's a girl in white; white dress, white sleeves, white ribbon tied to her dark hair. You let out a gasp, and she turns around with a confused, oddly normal facial expression.
"Oh, you made it", she remarks nonchalantly, "I was wondering when you'd get here."

Okay, so from what I gathered: Reimu has somehow died and Gensokyo's falling apart. Everyone has accepted that this was going to happen. Everyone but one. Marisa wants to keep Gensokyo alive, and get her best friend back in a desperate time, as their home slowly withers away.

You know, if Touhou were to have a finale, CtC would easily be the top contender. But I don't want to think about that now, I want to listen to a somewhat sad but hopeful song.
I'm actually going to make a fangame that tells the end of Gensokyo. It'll take a heck of a lot of explaining.
Adrian Tepes I was actually just thinking about that, and it would be cool to have either a fangame that is longer than most (over 6 stages) or a anime-styled movie (like memories of phantasm, but longer) portraying Youkais (Yukari included) trying to destroy the Hakurei Barrier to unite Gensokyo with the outside world and feature Reimu with some allies that believe this would be a mistake (such as Marisa, Yuyuko, Shikieiki, etc) trying to stop them.
And to show how much this is the biggest incident Reimu ever faced, that could result in the end of not only Gensokyo but the outside world aswell, Spellcard rules would be cast aside and characters would go all out.
It's probably a terrible plot, but I just made it up so cut me some slack if it's that bad :P

-If you beat the original 6 stages without using continues, you get to go to stage 7.
-Reimu is allied with Marisa, Sakuya, Youmu, Mokou, Sanae, Utsuho, and Miko. They're all playable characters.
-Spellcard rules are not in place for much of the game, because of it taking place outside Gensokyo.
However, they are not trying to reunite Gensokyo and Earth. They actually got tricked by the Yumetenno, (Emperor of the dream world) into destroying Gensokyo so he can take over the world.
Adrian Tepes Interesting idea. Would some spellcards be impossible on Lunatic as a result? ...That'd be kinda weird, but a lack of spellcard rules could lead to that...
That's a lot of shottypes. I have a fangame engine I'm working on that uses 10. 2 for each character... Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Sanae, and Aya. I originally thought of using your idea, with having all of my characters allied with Reimu, but this creates new shottypes and lets me experiment a bit.
***** I thought about making impossible or near-impossible "spellcards" (there wouldn't actually be spellcard, that's the whole point of ignoring the spellcard rule),
and to counter that, each character would have "actions" that would allow them to complete stages, like in PoFV.
Note to self: every game is better if it has a lethal dose of FEELS.

In frustration, Marisa journeyed on, past through the void of dying dreams and monotone fairies. It seemed so bizarrely dull, this realm of nothingness, for it to be even remotely be a part of this amazing and fantastic Gensokyo. Then again, Gensokyo was withering away the whole time, implying that this sort of decay of fantasia had widespread occurrence.
Eventually, Marisa did indeed spot something past the void.
It was a maiden, dressed entirely in white, as if she was prepared for some sort of funeral.
The black and white magician eagerly flew forward, still questioning who the hell this girl was, and why she was here. And, where was Reimu?
All questions were replied to by the young woman's face, as she turned around to face Marisa. "Oh hello, Marisa," the shrine maiden of paradise chimed.
Marisa stared on, her face gazing at the faded image of her friend.
How could this be? Reimu was invincible, she couldn't die, she would just-
"It's me. Reimu," the white-coated woman continued. "It's nice to see you again."
Marisa's long expression of shock continued on, as they both stood together at the end of an ocean.

In this vast ocean of blue, you ask, is this the sea of hope here to bring salvation, or is this an ocean of despair, her despair, the same despair that locked the residents of Gensokyo, the same one that..... You have no time to hesitate, the final battle has approached, for the maiden in white, the friend who you fought so hard to see, now stands before you in pure white. Bring back the balance to this fair maiden. You who has traveled through hell and back again, fight, fight with what little you have. Save her.

I clearly never knew what ctc was about when I played it for about two years ago.
When I got to the ending my house was struck by a tsunami coming from my room.
I mean, all other touhou songs stopped beating me to death after listening to both of the G Frees that came with CtC
I just now watched CtC and my god, the ending... I was not ready for that ;v;
Even though it came out in 2005, its plot is sadder then most games and fan games of this generation and its music is a blessing (or a curse)

I haven't played CtC (maybe I should, but I suck at Touhou at Normal difficulty), but this song alone shows the sadness, urgency, and hopelessness/hopefulness that is in the game. The thought of the scenes here makes me tear up. ;~;
CtC is a pretty good experience. Even if you won't even unlock the extra (freaking hard), it's still very fun.
And from what I've heard, the Phantasm is borderline (no pun intended) IMPOSSIBLE to unlock.

8:22 .... So that's what the water sounds were. The ambience sounds more unnerving and creepy by themselves.
But then again, it fits the atmosphere of the stage very well, considering Gensokyo is falling apart at that very moment.

I wanna one day devote all my time to just reading about all the complicated as heck lore behind all the Touhou games.
I haven't played any of the games but I think I understand most of the lore.

There are like 2000 pages' worth of official lore. The official books are at least 100 pages each, but a good little core of the worldbuilding is in PMiSS (166 pages). As a sample, you have BAiJR (167 pages) to CoLA (206 pages + 9 bonus chapters) to CiLR (188 pages) to WaHH (51 manga chapters) to FS (53 manga chapters) as a decent little chunk of the official works.
The channel GensouChronicle has a video that covers what most of the official works are (pretty much everything besides what isn't yet translated), though he does do a good job of presenting it without making it look as extensive as it really is. If you really want to dive in, you're in for a whole book series & several mid-length comics. Not that it's any less enjoyable, just mind its length before you dive in expecting to reach the end in less than a month. The games' documentation & in-game text is also a significant fraction of the lore, all the routes & endings & character profiles & scenarios considered.

Fuck man, I first heard this song around the time my time in school was ending, making me realise that I'm becoming an adult and leaving my childhood behind. This song will always make me think of leaving that chapter of my life behind and how sad it is to see it go. And for that fact alone, I will always enjoy this song for being one of the very few songs to actually give me chills and still sound amazing. Good job.

Well, CtC is a sad game once you sit and read the dialogue/lore of it, some of the endings especially
Mmm.. That describes it perfectly. You don't know CtC, yet it still gives that vibe.
This song evokes a sense of hopeless remorse, and catharsis. Everything is being broken down and washed away into the sea, or waking up from a dream only to see the cold and despondent sky.

+kevin marcillo undertale is child's play compared to anything touhou, i don't hate the game, in fact i own it. Its just got what i would call "artificial Difficulty" as in the "player" moves so slow it makes dodging attacks really hard.

The intro sounds depressing, the more you know the game's plot... the more emotional the music is... the intro is like you're waiting for hope, being desperate... like being in a nightmare, where your worst fear comes to life. You can't do anything, like it's too late. You're pleading to stop this, and wake up from the reality you know. Not this dark void of sadness..
Smol Update : Haha... actually after listening to this for a lot of times now after such a long time... this theme didn't seem that sad for me now (It's more of a joy and relief feels now... Because of the fact that this, STILL doesn't exist canonically.)
This totally shows what it would be like if the franchise is... done, well nothing lasts forever for real... losing touhou is like losing a piece of your soul *chuckles*...

Starting at around 8:22, you can hear strange noises. They do play through the whole song, but they're a lot easier to pick up on at this point.
The way I see it is that it's the last bits of spirit of all of those lives who are now fading out of existence, every friend and foe you've encountered, as the entire dream collapses in on itself, crumbling apart in its last moments. Screaming to not let it happen, they don't want to fade away. They want to live... Yet that's no longer an option.

I see an endless sea. The liquid in this sea is like water, and yet it is not. It ripples as if it were raining, but the weather is clear. It shines with a reflection of an unnatural ghostly light that comes from the moon in the sky, and yet, in the sky, there is no moon, but many stars. Floating by the surface of this sea is what appears to be souls. Whatever kind of souls they are remains unknown, for regardless of what they are, they endlessly wander about with no aim.
Calm. Eerie. Beautiful.

That game's lore is the most intense emotional rollercoaster I had in a while. At least it sort of ends with a promissing, bright rebirth. I mean, at least in one of the endings...

super rocki Eu já joguei os três primeiros stages e estou vendo se consigo fazer um Lunatic 1CC. A história é linda com toda essa idea de Gensokyo ser destruída, a mecânica de ter uma flash-bomb com os itens da Reimu é uma que eu sempre gosto de ver e a escolha de músicas parece que foi feita pensando em mim. Tinha parado de jogar por um tempo porque meu computador bugou e parou de rodar o applocale, mas agora eu já arrumei e não preciso abrir ele toda hora!

Reimu died, and now Gensokyo is ending as a result. The other characters (Yukari, Yuyuko) are trying to stop Marisa from visiting Reimu's ghost because it will make Gensokyo end quicker.

-Strong Youkai (Yukari,Yukka,Scarlet Sisters maybe?....)
-Ghosts/Divine Spirits being invisible (Youmu's ghost half,Yuyuko,Toyosatomimi,Tojiko...)
-Gods if they have enough faith (Kanako,Suwako,Okina....)
-Anyone from Moon Capital
Also,their appearance might be very shocking to the world especially on Japanese,because this means Shintoism is the true religion/Shinto gods are the true gods for humans to worship.

Simply speaking:Gensokyo is real->All Japanese Mythology beings are real->Shinto Gods/Japanese Gods are real->Japanese Ancestral Belief is the true religion->People convert to Shintoism or Japanese Folk Religion for salvation.
Although in Okina's case it would be Tendai Buddhism.

Yuyuko supposedly had darker hair and skin when she was alive (stated in Perfect Memento in Strict Sense). Where did you see Yuyuko without pink hair?
