In regards the un-upgraded BTR-80, from what I've heard the Russians are kind of just pushing anything that they can activate to the front - upgraded or otherwise - because they believe Ukrainian defenses would be too strong to breakthrough later, and because Ukraine is unable to counterattack and retake ground if their lines become too weak from pushing too hard.
I did some quick maths based on 2022 numbers for Russian BTR-80/82 and loss data from Oryx. Russia should have about 1284 BTR-80, 339 BTR-82 left and lost 62 more undetermined.
