  • Welcome back to Yacht News!
The sailing superyacht, Koru, measures 417 feet and was built by Oceanco at their Alblasserdam shipyard. When the vessel was first announced, yacht-focused media houses were interested in discovering the owner. And soon, it was established that the yacht was ordered by the Amazon founder and third richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos. Despite claims that the yacht has a $500 million price tag, its actual value remains a mystery.
Koru's design team, performance, and amenities are still to be confirmed. However, we know that the yacht will include several outdoor social areas, a dip pool on her main deck, a Jacuzzi on her sundeck, and other luxurious amenities. Additionally, she appears to have a crow's nest linked to her main mast, providing her with more magnificent panoramic vistas.
Sources reveal that Koru's interiors were influenced by Jeff Bezos' close pal, the founder and ex-CEO of Fox, Barry Diller's 305 feet long yacht, Eos, which boasts opulent designs by François Catroux.
Koru will not only be the longest yacht built in the Netherlands but also the largest privately owned sailing yacht in the world when delivered. The yacht can accommodate 40 crew members and up to 18 guests without feeling cramped.
However, Jeff Bezos' new luxury yacht attracted public outcries when it was revealed that he wanted to pay to have the Koningshaven Bridge, also known as De Hef, partly dismantled for his yacht to pass through. The mega yacht's 229 feet or 70 meters tall masts surpassed the 131 feet (40 meters) clearance on the bridge. City officials initially consented to the move, but the news to disassemble the bridge caused public outrage. In the end, Oceanco, Y721 Koru's builder, opted against requesting authorization to temporarily tear down the historic Koningshaven Bridge. Instead, the yacht was secretly towed from the Alblasserdam shipyard to Greenport without its masts in early August last year. One of the yacht's masts was later spotted being moved down the Nieuwe Maas in August 2022 to be mounted on the yacht in the new location, and the bridge was left untouched.
In conclusion, Jeff Bezos' Koru Superyacht is a luxurious and intriguing project that has caught the attention of yacht enthusiasts and the public alike. Its controversial history has only added to its appeal, and we are excited to see what the future holds for this magnificent vessel. Come, and let’s discover in this video everything about Jeff Bezos his CONTROVERSIAL Koru Superyacht!

"Propelled by the kinetic energy out of the sails" is a phrase so precisely stupid as to be unbelievable. Stay in school, kids.

I would like to go on a completely automated sailboat like this. I bet one person can sail the whole thing.

Then realise that Global Mercy Ship, a gigantic hospital ship which helps 1000s of people who otherwise wouldn't have access to advanced health care, only cost 200 million dollar. That is 7000 m^2 of hospital service with advanced medical equipment and space for 100s of crew and patients. How can this ship be 500 million while serving almost no purpose compared to that? What an insanely inefficient use of economical means... And that while amazon is known for being such an efficient organisation... He could have had almost similar usage value, using other materials and more efficient built - probably for fraction of that prize.
Also note that very large oil tankers, take ~100 million to build. So still don't know where all that money went for this small ship in comparison. Platina-coated ceilings?
The only thing I'm happy about is that he let it built by the Dutch - my country ;-)

It's not controversial!! Stupid title. All superyacht projects are secretive. Still has not been still seen sailing so therefore not officially largest sailing yacht.

Unfortunately, it looks like a yacht designed by a committee. Everyone gets a part of what they want but it satisfies no one.

Never buy anything that you're incapable of cleaning yourself, regularly.
If you don't clean it - you'll be considered disgusting.
If you pay others to clean - you'll be surrounded by sweaty, resentful strangers all the time.
Either way - kiss your friends goodbye and get used to lots of loneliness.
