The fallen ice cream cone represents the end of Jimmy's "whimsical" hijinks. Gone are the days of filming commercials for fake businesses and staging rescues to bring in clients. That was child's play. He's in "the game" now. The sequence of the ants devouring it signifies a tonal transition for the show.
@@dannyogle8613 I was referring to what he did for the sake of his business (to make money/bring in clients). What I mentioned before was all his existence as a corrupt lawyer consisted of. Now, he's becoming "a friend of the cartel".
A very small line in breaking bad was Hank mentioning to the DEA office that Crazy 8 was their snitch but has been missing. Vince has an answer for everything
It all ties together emotionally with Mike... He was sad because he got his son to betray his own principles before he died anyway... He made him a corrupt, brutal cop like himself... Matt's death gave him the motivation then to become a better person (after he killed Matty's murderers) and that's why he refused to "pull the trigger" for so long... But then, with Werner, he had no choice but to kill him, no matter how much he didn't want to do it... Kaley talking about Matty again in 5x02 reminded him again of why he started to "refuse to pull the trigger" in the first place and made him feel even more bad again about what he did to Werner... I know it's some very subtle character development with Mike but there is a continuity going through all seasons of BCS... Basically it's all tying back to Mike's relationship to his son Matty especially shortly before his untimely death... It's impressive how they gave so much depth to this father-son-relationship without actually ever showing Matt as an adult interacting directly with Mike
Mike had a choice. He could of taken Werner to the police. He could of turned himself in and given them Gus. Instead he chose to murder an innocent man. It may have been a hard choice to make but removing his agency from the situation undercuts what his story is about.
@@dog-eared6991 Any situation other than Werner dying would have lead to Mike being killed, which means he'd no longer be able to support his family. I see the ice cream scene as Saul's life getting slowly contaminated cause he has to work with the cartel now. Like with Walt and the fly, "its all contaminated"
Before when you see jimmy put an empty bottle of beer the ledge, Kim stares at and it’s almost like it’s worrying her, at the end of that scene, she snatches the bottle from ledge and goes inside. I think the bottle jimmy put on the edge represents Kim’s career, jimmy puts her career on the edge, and when you see Kim throw bottles off the balcony, it’s foreshadowing for what gonna happen.
I think it's about how Kim was the voice of Jimmy's conscience, controlling his dark side, keeping him from overstepping the line. In the end He threatens to drop the bottle, stays at the limit, on the fine line, so Kim passes that limit and throws the bottle, this is her arc, now she doesn't limit him, it's no longer the voice of conscience, on the contrary, she becomes more Saul than Jimmy himself.
You also have to realize, looking back at Breaking bad it makes you realize that Crazy 8 was an informant the whole time. Which yes, you mentioned the raid in the first season.
I mean, Hank mentioned that their CI went missing, he was referring to him. It's interesting how they wanted to explore how that came to be and use it to escalate the Gus/Salamanca feud. I love how they have no idea that they create story resources to pull from, yet when they do go back to things, it's in surprising ways that make the worldbuilding stronger and not merely annoying, winking references.

Saul interacts with Hank in his first episode of Breaking Bad. Jesse also mentions in this episode that Saul “got crazy 8 off like twice” or something like that
Notice Lalos change when Saul brings up Their Abuelita. I’m guessing at this point she had passed away and since Tuco is in jail at this point it probably really messed him up.
That's what I was thinking, they probably had her character pass too since the actress died before this season aired. I also interpret Lalo's reaction almost as a moment of silence from the show.
