Mellow Corn is one of my staple inexpensive bottles I keep on my bar right along side Wild Turkey 101. It’s nothing special but it’s tasty and easy to drink.
You nailed the Heaven Hill profile 😅
Nailed it!
She said, "it kinda reminds me of a Heaven Hill bottled in bond"....spot on! I like it too!
Mellow Corn is a LOT better than ANYONE EVER assumed it would be, and I appreciate that.
Love this stuff with a cold Sundrop
That's the way this stuff is. It grows on you. 1 bottle and you are doomed. You'll never pass up Mellow Corn ever again.
im about half way down my first bottle, and I can't believe how much I enjoy it given how cheap this stuff is.
I love it. Very under rated.
Being aged in used bourbon barrels, this needs to be compared to a young Scotch or Irish whisk(e)y, which are also aged in used bourbon barrels. BTW, I am a fan of Mellow Corn, just a very pleasant sipping whiskey.
MELLOW CORN! Absolute necessity in any bar.
Tough to complain about for bottled in bond and price….crushable yes. #darato5k!
Great blind review! Love your tasting notes. Cheers!!
Thank you kindly!
I’ve passed on Mellow Corn long enough and need to try it 😊🥃 Cheers, Dara!
You were mostly right - it's not Heaven Hill BiB, but it is a bottled in bond whisky from Heaven Hill. 🙂
At first I thought you were going to have much the same view of Mellow Corn that I do, since I get some sourness from it (I've only had one corn whisky that has no sourness at all). But then you started getting corn sugar water, and I knew we get different things from this juice. I like it, but I don't get that kind of sweetness from it.
For entirely different kinds of corn whisky you might want to try Baby Blue or True Blue from Balcones Distilling, or Abasolo from Destilería y Bodega Abasolo down in Mexico. 🌽🌽🌽
I saw it tonight on the bottom shelf at Lee's Discount Liquor (Las Vegas) for $18.99, now sipping it neat from a chilled stone guinomi (Japanese saké cup) after dinner. I would give it a 3/5 overall, mainly for value/cost, but also for the sippable 100-proof.
Love Mellow Corn neat and as a mixer. The price is great.
Just picked up my 1st bottle last night. After your review, I'm going to have a pour later this evening and see what I think myself. Great review as always 🙂
I like this one when I want something light. The price makes it an incredible value
AWESOME!!!! The bottled in bond 4 year version of Heaven Hill 20 LOL!!! We put it in mason jars with charred white oak staves for 2 weeks. Really good result but I also like it on its own. Cheers love your reviews.
Thank you so much!! Cheers!
I like it alot, but i love corn lol 😆 love doing fat washes with this one. Favorite infuser, gotta like sweet and not overly complex. Scared me thought you paid 30 to 40 at first lol. Also dont feel bad i pay 20 where i live n still gladly woukd pay 5 more unless i make the trek to total wine for 16.99. Its never in stock though, why i would. Looking for an alternative, but there either crap corn whiskey or way too pricey. Which shouldn't be either, its corn lol. Any recommendations for a good whiskey with a similar profile and a cornier mash bill would be awesome.
I think it’s excellent taking price into consideration. It’s light color is from being aged in a used barrel, which makes this a good example of the difference between used vs new cooperage. Michter’s has one as well. I believe both could be called bourbon if aged in new barrels. Trying both of these whiskeys is a good lesson in whiskey flavors.
Subscribed because your nose and palate are spot on, you have skills.
Thank you so much!! Cheers!
Yo, it is INSANE you made you made that heaven hill connection blind.
Only had this once. I enjoyed it and would buy it if I saw it to have on the bar.
You wore the same shirt last time you did mellow corn. I know because i searched mellow corn. Lol!
Ha! That’s too funny. It’s one of my summer fave shirts. I wear it a lot.
Want to get this to try & just to have 1 bottle, but in my area, it cost more than just about anything in it's range & that are considerably higher quality than MC, including; WT 101, EW BiB, OGD Bonded.
Can I suggest to hold the whisky in your mouth longer? Swallowing it immediately after you sip will lose all the flavor on the palate immediately and you only get the finish.
on the one hand I agree. on the other hand I'm impressed with how well this girl can handle her liquor.
Wow!!!
Very impressed!
That’s an ADHD Whiskey kind of palette!
I always have a couple unopened bottles of this one, I think it’s great and so do a bunch of people who’s names you would recognize.
Thanks so much! Appreciate your comments! Cheers!
I’m late on this video. Definitely think corn whiskey needs to get more attention. I’m drinking a cocktail with Mexican whiskey and it’s so good. Try a sample of the whiskey and I was shocked to like whiskey with corn in the mash bill.
Like this bottle but don't grab it often. Great Blind. Cheers.
I oddly like this it's different not something I reach for a lot but everyone once in awhile I enjoy it
Mellow Corn is legit good .. for the price point, nothing comes close.
I got a bottle of Mellow Corn for $15 a while back. It’s not bad. It’s really good for mixing, so if you don’t like it’s neat, it doesn’t have to be wasted or drain-poured.
Have you tried Old Tub? If so, compares how?
@@dakotatheplumber1287 I have not tried Old Tub.
I don’t think it compares at all. Old tub is lightly nutty to me
You nailed it!
I like the stuff but it’s over $20 a bottle now.
Ouch! It's getting more expensive like most things
You aren't crazy... just being honest & that's why I watch. Also I have a couple cases of Mellow 🌽 you can buy....just sayin. Have a Great Week Everyone🥃🥃😎
Why would anybody buy that crap by the case? Good luck, maybe you can barter them when society collapses.
@@mikecatalanottojr41 Did you watch the video???? It was a Joke?? She said she'd pay $30-$40 per bottle before she knew what it was..... 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
Will have to give this a try. See it but never pull the trigger.
I would rather have Ancient Age. Dont waste your money.
All I can think of is brad pitt and seven. Lol love your reviews. 🥃
😊🥃thanks so much!
All Heaven Hill stuff punches way above it's weight.
It’s ok I like variety
Mellow Corn isn’t bad at all. But, doesn’t hold up against when tasted side-by-side with better whiskeys
That would be like comparing a bourbon to an Irish whiskey, they are just different styles.
@@txmike1945 may be a different “style,” but it’s still a whiskey
@@touring3d That is my point, all of them are whisky or whiskey. You don't usually do a direct comparison of Knob Creek bourbon with Lagavulin 16 peated scotch, because they are different styles meant to be enjoyed on their own merits, not in direct comparison with each other. Similar for Mellow Corn, talking about it "against when tasted side-by-side with better whiskeys" has no value. It is a rookie comment.
@@txmike1945 Mellow Corn is a corn whiskey and bourbon is at least 51% corn. You can definitely compare the two. You’re an idiot lol
Hey how about doing some scotch blind tastings?
Loved the laugh !
Never had it, but now I’m curious
I’ve heard from multiple WhiskeyTubers that Mellow Corn often does really well in blinds against more expensive whiskeys, so your saying you’d pay $30-40 for a bottle is hardly off base.
I think you were spot on! You are also beautiful by the way! I will be watching more videos! What else can a 76 year old man do? Lol
I did not realize it was BIB / 100 proof? 🥃
Which also means aged a minimum of 4 years!
..it terrifies me. 😂 Great video review, this was fun to watch
Thank you 😁
Nice one! Always good to have one on the shelf to let folks try.
Definitely!
i've never tried it, but I have to get a bottle now
did you find any? I had to order it (in Houston) special - $25-27 a bottle...
@@idsullymichaels I did. It was $20. I liked it, and it is a nice change of pace, but there are other things I like better at that price (Evan Williams BiB, Fighting Cock, Old Forrester 100 in a 1.75 bottle)
Have never had any of that Mellow Corn and know now I probably won't bother with it. Out of curiosity, how many drinks do you have daily?
Some days none, other days a couple
This needs to be available in the 1.75L size to have a chance at being a good value. At $19+ tax for 750mL, this is not a good value.
I'm going to do this with my friends and use used toilet water
Girl, you need to up your water game.
What do you mean that "it doesn't smell barn yardy, like I thought".....I thought this was a blind?.....If you didn't know what it was, why would you have a preconceived idea?..........
Because the color of the whiskey was really light and when I see really like colored whiskey, i usually think it’s really young whiskey.
The color means less time in the barrel /years kinda depends where it's from. Hotter climates darker, more flavor faster.
Lighter less flavor barrel proof will do this too.
Was her color comment really far off? It was a cheap one..
The branding on this always makes me think I should be putting it in the cupboard next to the cooking oils. They could really do with re-branding it. Never seen it in the UK.
I love the label, so retro and distinctive.
MFC is bad.
Wow, I can't believe you didnt get that. Mellow Corn is disgusting.
