I have an apx 700 also. Nobody who has ever played it has failed to comment on how easy and fast to play it is. Even compared to much more expensive guitars, the action is wonderful, the sound isn't as good as a more expensive full bodied guitar, but I'd say the poster above you got a lemon if his was hard to play.
Man Rob, Alex Hutchings is so inspirational. Don't get me wrong, your not bad yourself, but some of the stuff he does is just unreal.
I bought it in 2009, still working flawlessly...when not plugged in, it is average, but that is not her purpose. Love this guitar :)
Clear, crisp sound, but it's hard to beat the sweetness and richness of a Martin.

I usually hate anything that says Yamaha on it, but that black one looks pretty nice... not sure it has the (pre-amp) sound to match, but even LOOKING good is a step up for Yamaha in my book =|
Now to anyone who's surprised to see "shredding" on an acoustic, that's where it originated - one word: FLAMENCO!

Fun fact the APX is the standard model for bachata music. Maybe 95% of bachata guitar players own an APX and swear by it.
Wow Guys, that was kind of terrible For demonstrating an acoustic guitar. I'm not really sure what the goal was here, other than to make these instruments sound uninspiring, and cheap.
I've got a DW7 and I love it! It doesn't have any electronics, though. Not that I miss them.
The 500 sounds anemic and hollowed-out, though it does possess a pleasing clarity and timbre. The 700 I could not evaluate, because the first player was manically shredding over a rhythm player that makes it impossible to tell the qualities of either guitar, and the other player of the 700 only strummed a few chords. It would really be helpful if someone, who knew how to play well, with both a pick and his fingers, played these guitars, individually and solo. Then, and only then, would we know.
If you do fingerstyle and chordal the Fender CN-240SCE is better than either guitar you mentioned, however as a general rule avoid Takemine acoustic electrics if they're under $600.00 or so, their electronics are terrible.
been shopping around for a future electro and i think in that 700 i think i have found the one i want or maybe the 1000 depending on budget

I disagree. I've played these guitars for a long time. Maybe for your style they're uncomfortable, but for me and other people, maybe they're just fine. I think these guitars are great, specially for their price range. I use .012 strings with my APX700 and works great for me using standard tuning. Lowering the action is something you can do with any guitar, and it depends only on what you like or not.
Bring back the APX 4A, PLEASE Yamaha.😊😋🤗

I have a Washburn Woodstock from 1980, does that pre-date these Yamahas as a purpose built electro-acoustic? Nice vid btw!

the apx700 sounds amazing
The 700 reminds me of a washburn festival series which i sold for 125 pounds. Still regret to this day. It was worth over 500.
Quality guitars. Was picking between them and the Freshman 2OC, and the Freshman just edged it on price, sound and looks.

@golfer765 I know I am not chappers but I have that amp and an electro acoustic and I can tell you that it sounds better than ok through the amp to my ears. Also, playing with all of the effects and presets is very fun, there are some cool "whale song" like sounds when you play with distortion because of the harmonics sustaining. Although, possibly wait for chappers to reply, he will certainly know more than me...

Is it just me or did the 700 sound a bit too bassy? I'm sure you can EQ that out. I'm looking at buying a new acoustic and would love to hear some feedback on different brands under $800.

Yamaha APX500ii has a laminated top. But I heard you said it has a spruce top. What is it?

It just means it's more than one piece of spruce glued together. Solid is obviously one piece of spruce.
