  • Tears For Fears' Curt Smith joins Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt this week for the Series 2 return of Rockonteurs.
The band return with their first new album in 18 years, The Tipping Point is out in Feb and we get the lowdown on the record and those huge decade defining albums of the 1980’s. After chatting to Roland last year on the show, this is a fascinating listen to hear the other side of the story from a band who have quite the story!

Curt's importance to Tears For Fears cannot be understated, yes Roland is a genius, but Curt is the glue that holds everything together.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Curt chat with you both. So interesting hearing the dynamics of Curt and Roland’s relationship and the decisions they make surrounding the music they write and produce.

Had the absolute pleasure on being featured on the same November 2021 show alongside Tears for Fears - a segment called 'Back After Years' on older artists still producing great material - on the international award-winning Berlin-based 'Lopsided World of L!' Tears for Fears featured in the first hour and my song 'Cool Cat' closed that set.

Great show; impossible for two English blokes on air not to eventually become Smashy and Nicey, but it is what it is.

Enjoyed the Tears For Fears chats (both of them). Would have loved to have grilled them more on their relationship, especially on stage. When I saw them at Royal Albert Hall in 2017 there was literally ZERO interaction between the two of them all night. Very peculiar. And they always seem ‘distant’ in photo shoots.
Also, Roland seemed open/generous when discussing Curt’s contribution to the new album, but he has very few writing credits on previous work. That *must* be a point of contention!
Anyway, they’re an odd couple but I’m glad they’re working together.

I think they were in a bad spot in 2017. Much has changed since then.

@@sundet81 For sure. But they'd been touring the States for YEARS and then, when they finally reached the UK, it looked like they were going through the motions - certainly at the RAH, which was a bit of a shame given the venue. Appreciate the dynamic would have been massively affected at the time by the death of Roland's wife, of course.

I think Roland was in a bad spot then with his wife dying and the public at that point didn't know. I agree with you though. I was at the small BBC concert the night before the Albert Hall (I went to the Albert Hall too) and it truly looked like Roland was in a sad place .
After the Albert Hall concert I briefly met Curt in our hotel lobby the day after the Albert Hall concert he was with his brother. Iv been a lifelong fan and had to go over (I remember thinking to myself what am I doing here, will he even like it😂) he was really nice though and introduced me to his brother too.
Wish I would have got a picture , but I didn't want to sound like a fool anymore than needed . Haha
Still love them and will be seeing them next month at PRYZM in Kingston England.

I don't like podcasts with no video. You would get a much wider audience with visuals.

Yeah... I sort of agree ... I like to see facial expressions and body language etc ... However, still a good podcast 👏🏻

You both are horrible interviewers because you both interrupt each other and worse is when you both interrupt your guest. Roland's interview was absolutely disgusting and at times he sounded as if it pissed him off.
