The Maniac Cop trilogy will always be one of my most favorite underrated slasher franchises of all time. Matt Cordell is one of my favorite slashers. This franchise deserves more recognition.
Jay Khwaja if you're old school like me or just appreciates good old school movies look at my comments for Bad Boys 1983 Bill Conti . This young man wanted to know other movies of that era I recommend movies that I have on my collection ... You never know maybe I could have a movie you forgot about or would remember if you saw the name of the movie
Juan Sanchez TY very much for your kind words there Juan, there is a great Sci/Fi film called The Hidden (1987), please check that out and a Kevin Costner classic called Revenge (1990). So sad today's films can't be like before though, good times always!
+Jay Khwaja I don't know if you have kids but I have my kids watch my old school cartoons that I have on DVD and movies . My twin teenage daughters I won't let them watch nasty ones even thought their 16 .. I tell them everything coming out now are either remakes cause the ones now suck.... Look at Michael Bay using my childhood characters to make money out of old generation and new generation kids cause he knows well take are kids to watch them... TMNT and Transformers.... Now I heard he wants to remake Thundercats or Heman I don't remember
I worried that may happen to my grandpa becasue he was the best cop, but fortunately he quit before anything could happen but now he's bitter and distant than when I was a kid
That movie was the first horror movie I saw when I was about 5. Just went back in for a rewatch and paused mid-scene to find the tune. Something about the music and flashback sequence made me feel sad for him.
you know i never thought that sympathizing with a villain would ever be something i'd do but i definitely sympathized with cordell, he has a genuinely sad and dark backstory.
This music plays exactly in a scene where Matt Cordell is sleeping in an abandoned warehouse thinking back on everything that went south; the sham trial, the assault in on him on the prison shower that left him scarred near-dead and brain-damaged. If anything, this is the song that plays when you've suffered any kind of PTSD and try to keep yourself on a happy trip. But no matter the amount of sugar coating all the bad memories slowly but surely creep there way into our minds and overtake all happy thoughts like a ruptured reservoir, leaving us in helpless shame and bitter rage like Cordell is feeling. Good thing Cordell sticks his baton sword to all the city officials who framed him in the first movie, and hilariously the Mayor in the right edition or deleted scene and in the sequel, his old enemies in prison, (just one dude shy of complete vengeance, but with a sick rapist as a consolation prize).
They almost made him a sympathetic villain, almost. I swear if they ever really do a remake, there's a lot they could fix. Keep the base plot, just remove the supernatural aspect (even if they made a sequel to this hypothetical remake). And just make it a horror story, about a man betrayed by the system and society. Another cop decides to go after the "city slasher" mistakenly thinking Cordell is just some random killer. It's revealed that this other cop and Cordell were friends, but He testified against him during the court case. They cross paths and Cordell realising who He is; hunts him and tries to find out where He lives. Things come to a head, and together the reporter and detective fight to stop him, and like the original ending think they've killed him, but when the coroners go to retrieve his body, they find it gone.
I'm former NYPD officer. I'll tell you, not that much has changed since the days of Frank Serpico. I was a good honest cop who really cared about getting crime off the street and keeping innocent people safe. What happens to a cop like that? He ends up having to either keep quiet about all kinds of corruption and hypocracy, or be a "rat" who breaks the blue wall of silence and reports the corruption. Then he is hated and mistrusted by other officers, and could easily end up like Matt Cordell.
@Lelouch Lamperouge You should be speaking to the mirror, stupid. You are the one shooting your mouth off and you literally have nothing to loose in this case.
Dasherr because I seen these in the video store years ago but never rented them so I gave the. A watch and they was quite good I need to get these in my collection and I was born in 89
@@Jaymcgom89 Damn, you're the same age as my cousin. Weirdly enough I'm far beyond a late 80's child or even a 90's, yet my family stuck to watching old VHS tapes (partially due to my demand) till it broke in 2009. That was probably the first horror movie I watched. May have been about 5 or 6 lmao.
This theme song is awesome, i love the movie. Can't wait for "Maniac Cop 4", just hope this song comes back (it didn't come out in "Maniac Cop 3"). This song sounded it's best in the flashback when he gets killed. The tune almost makes you feel sorry for him.
It's really sad. I understand Matt has anger issues against the police force and law enforcement, but taking it out on innocents, even killing people for another cop for is framed, Matt's a really nice and honorable person.
@A Walking Vibe Check No he was actually a no mess honourable cop who tried to take down the mafia, but the government officials paid off by the mafia took him down instead. He went from cop to madman bend on revenge.
Man I remember begging my older brother to let me watch this movie with him I was 13/14 @ the time. Let me tell you I was scared for a week straight. They (Hollywood) don't make movies like this anymore. Matt Cordell 👍👍👌👌
Me too. What's sadder is that next to all decent cops arekicked out of the police force for good moral conduct of failling to make some ridicullos "arrest quota," leaving only the bad cops in the police force.
Poor matt he didn't a deserve like that, he was a real hero but the crime turn him in a evil psychopath. sometimes justice is a joke even in fiction and therefore Revenge is not long in coming and as a consequence there are people who take justice or rather revenge into their own hands. Sad but real
Don LaFontaine - ..."In a world where the cops switch places with the criminals..." ..."His name is Officer Matt Cordell. His badge number 4321. Once a decorated SUPER COP, now a MANIAC COP..." ..."Maniac Cop 2. You have the right to remain silent [Shuck Shuck. Ahhhhhhh!! BOOM!] forever..."
The saddest slasher horror tune… Matt Cordell was a true and honest cop until the system ,,eat him”. Imagine how many stories like his could happen in the real life…
Is Robert Zdar still alive? If he is they should get him too play Matt cordell again. The music is really creepy & makes me feel sad that this could of happend to a ex cop in prison.

Maniac cop was a great slasher and that music is just creepy
And sad when you think of how Cordell feels a good cop/role model betrayed by the crooked system.
Matthew Cordell will never rest.....NEVER
ROBERT Z'DAR, WE WILL MISS YOU
Robert Zdar looked the same but without the scars in Tango and Cash
Good 80's scores are Maniac Cop, Silent Rage, Bad Boys, Silver Bullet, Lost Boys

Sad tune. I can't help feel sorry for Matt Cordell, he was framed by the justice system and mauled in prison.

It’s a film . No need to feel sorry for him . He ain’t real

Not almost, totally

yay this is the tune stuck in my head
If they make a Maniac Cop 4 I wonder who would play as Matt Cordell since Robert Z'Dar passed away.
Jona-San Tsuyoshi it would be better to put arnold Schwarzenegger as cordell
Jona-San Tsuyoshi they're making a remake
Andrew Campos Seriusly?? Ohhh What day ??

I actually have to agree with you. This movie is ass. But it’s fun ass.
Jason Vorhees Vs Maniac Cop Vs Myers V Freddy V Leatherface oh yea!!!
Bo Danville Jason and maniac cop would be the last ones alive
Angel Espinoza those are facts and wouldn’t surprise me if Matt Cordell would win and I’m a Jason fan
Terrordrome anyone?
Freddy would win in the dream world but in the real world it would be more to Matt's balance (for armament and intelligence)
@@MeinerLarry Freddy wouldn't have much advantage in his world because Matt don't fear nothing
