    Alex’s excitement over hearing an announcement in the abandoned part of the station was the best reaction you’ve had in any episode: the station still being linked to the network even though abandoned, getting announcements in the station that only rats can hear, and looking the exact same as the last day of service

    Thank you very much for such an informative insight to the history, development and workings of the Tour. It is similarly enlightening as Gareth Dennis' RailNatter episode 15 on Art on the Underground with Charlotte Monroe.
    For example, I never thought that these tours went back all the way to the Nineties. I thought Hidden London wasn't that "old". (Or did you take on that name later probably?)
    Could you please answer me a question regarding escalators: From one of Geoff Marshall's famous videos we know that a regular stair-step is 17cm high; from personal experience we know the escalator steps to be significantly higher, which is a big factor that makes them uneasy or unintuitive to use, when not in service. Why is it that escalators have such big steps, and can't they be constructed with smaller steps, let's say more akin to regular ones, so as to make them more intuitive, more easy to use, when not running?
    Mr Nix noted on the "many many thousands of pounds of investment" necessary for making such a site Tour-worthy, or Tour-ready: How many Tours does it take, until you brought back in at least that investment?
    Should this comment be addressed/read out in the episode, I would like to use the oportunity to say Cheers from Cologne, Germany, to everybody! *waving* (If not... well, then I guess no Hi from Germany)

    • @JP_TaVeryMuch
      @JP_TaVeryMuch Год назад

      At a guess, the height of the escalator steps could well be that high for simple reasons of economies of scale. Higher = fewer necessary = cheaper to manufacture, replace and run.
      Also it may be another example of London UndergrounD being different: the entire "domestic scale" electrical system runs at about half the voltage of the UK national and in fact whole European system's value. So nothing would be worth stealing or would work if you plugged in your own charger.
      As for your second question, that's commercially sensitive information to which you can't expect to be party.
