I grew up with 70s and 80s parents till I was 10 when they got divorced,and my parents grew up with disney. Yet however, they still had all of the DVD's for bluray and those movies were these ones. (Spirited away, ponyo, howl's moving castle,)
The Miyazaki art feels alive! Modern Japanese Anime is barely art anymore. They're just stories with anime proportioned characters. All the backgrounds are probably just retouched photographs with an anime filter of actual sites around Japan. Been living in Tokyo for 16 years and recognize a crazy amount of locations that are based in and around Tokyo. Even the backstreets and less well know locations. People seem to like it because it makes the story more relatable and real. But it's so real it leaves little room for imagination.
Though I like new technology, there is something about anime when it was hand drawn, there is more than just an image, there is a message embedded in every line and color. It’s something that I find hard to find nowadays.
