  • Exploring the legendary back bowls of Vail and Blue Sky Basin. It was my first time skiing Vail since I was about seven years old and I had the best time! At over 5,200 aches, Vail is the largest ski resort in Colorado and one of the largest in the United States! The mountain is comprised of a frontside with traditional clear cut trails, wide open back bowls, and natural terrain littered with trees and rocks out in Blue Sky Basin. Vail is located about an hour and a half west from Denver off Interstate 70 making it a close option to the front range, but expect large crowds at this resort. A large footprint does help spread people out and if you are an advanced skier I recommend heading the Blue Sky Basin right away.

    Would love it if you were able to ski the bowls again in this powder. I was just back there and texted my wife that i didn't know this was a bucket list item before i headed down poppy fields for first tracks, but with five inches of powder it was. This video shows your ability but man it doesn't look much fun with all the ice. Champagne Glades had much more and it was amazing.

    I will try to watch the rest of this later. Do you know what the actual date was? I was told that Vail opened up their bowls before Breckenridge did last season. If that is the case I might head out there this year when they open up their bowls.

    The back bowls almost always have very poor skiing conditions. The reason for that is they face the sun. They're crusty nasty not fun to ski at all. Anyone who thinks otherwise has never lived in Vail. I can here the terrible conditions under your skis.

    • @coloradocamera
      @coloradocamera  Год назад

      Northwoods and Blue Sky Basin was better snow forsure, maybe a nice spring day in the bowls is better

      @@coloradocamera I may have been a bit harsh. The back bowls after a cover of fresh powder is awesome. Also love doing the Minturn mile in any condition.

      I lived there for 7 seasons and can honestly say I never skied the entire mountain/Ridgelines/bowls. What was fun were the cornices. They're kinda like cliffs. Never skied outer Mongolia or the east Vail chutes. Basically we were based out of lions head and stayed close to home. Good times!
