    Hahahah in the last saxo I had I went up a really steep hill in north wales and the horn literally fell off 😂 it was dragging underneath near the driver side wheel until I think it was just eventually lost somewhere in snowdonia 😂

      This is both intruiging and not very reassuring

    Ah, Mr Manning! I well remember this little car, had lots of fun filming it. Yes, the TU engines are quite strong, generally, aren't they?

    • @MattysCars
      @MattysCars  4 года назад +2

      Ahh what a great day. Do you know what, I read that the engine in the Saxo (and of course the other cars it was fitted to) was one of the most reliable engines made by PSA. The Saxo is definitely more reliable than the C3 that replaced it, though some C3's had this engine.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 4 года назад

      @@MattysCars, that's right, the Prince engine which replaced the TU wasn't as reliable from what I understand. I drove a 207 with a Prince engine back in the early days of the channel, and it wasn't great... You are right, the TUs did go into early C3s and 207s.

      Every Mk1 C3 just seems to be battered though or riddled with problems. Strange how the car that replaced the Saxo had worse interior build quality!

      @@MattysCars, yes, not a very well made car, sir. Bits just fell off.... Not one of my favourites!

    Same I don’t think my Saxo ever failed to start on me. However, I had to replace the callipers on the front as one was sticking.
    Then there was the time the door fell off in a car park. Luckily a pin just came loose and it was fixed by tightening it back up. Then a couple of weeks later the lock sheared off when I tried to unlock the car.
    I had the old gear knob falling off problem in a previous car so know that battle of laughs.
    Love the note on servicing cars yourself - you can’t do that on a new(ish) vehicle.
    On the BMW note, the indicator sticks in my 2016 330e were terrible - it’s the car not the drivers!

      Hahahaha great storys. I've had work done on my brakes but that's to be expected on an older car. 😂😂😂

    I remember when the starter motor on my Renault 17 started playing up...kept it going a bit by hitting it with a hammer...;) ( Reasoned it wasn't engaging with motor so jarring it might free up the engaging thingy. Any how it worked for a while. A 'new secondhand' starter motor from the breakers (easy to replace - you just disconnect the wires, unbolt it...) fixed the problem more permanently.

  • @rockykoast7065

    Had a Renault 17 at one point ( think French taxis in the 70's 80's? Oh you're too young of course...). The starter motor packed in...but I discovered I could 'wake it up' by gently tapping it with a hammer. ( Theory was it might just jarr either the electrical brushes or whatever & make it work...it did for a week or two...long enough to get to the breakers and get a replacement that worked.

      Hahahaha no I only just remember Renault 19s and 21s! Yeah or prodding the starter motor with a brush works sometimes

    Hey Matty, I'm turning 17 in a few months and was thinking about a car, would a saxo be a good choice?

    • @MattysCars
      @MattysCars  4 года назад +4

      I think so! The Saxo is definitely something different to what people usually get as their first car, which is one of the reasons I chose it. If you buy a good one then the things that go wrong are only things you’d expect to go wrong on a car of that sort of age so a good choice over all

    In 5/6 day i’m getting a saxo from 1998 as my first car, I don’t have a lot of money but i still prefer many old cars than newer ones, hope it’s going to last a few years ahaha
    Another thing, when you downshift from the 5th gear to the 4th did you ever or almost put in R gear by meastake?

    • @MattysCars
      @MattysCars  4 года назад +1

      Good luck with your new Saxo! I prefer older cars too, as long as you get a good Saxo it should look after you for the most part. No I can't say I've ever put it in reverse by mistake
