Absolutely nothing good to say about the "We Banter" especially with the price point for what material/lock/blade/pocket clip they use. But I've been using knives and making some knives longer than many youtubers and commenters have been on earth. So just my 2 cents from multiple multiple decades on the scene.
Ben did such an awesome job designing the WE Banter. Such a beautiful but yet simple design. It looks like pretty close to the perfect smaller edc knife.
As most know I'm really not a fan a small knives. I'm in love with this design. It's just a simple easy knife. This needs to happen more often. It's about function and this has it. For my taste a 3.5 inch would be perfect
I love Ben. I'm so glad this exists. I don't think he has designed it to be a "Gem". I personally think it falls just below "Gem" territory. Which kind of makes it a gem in its own right. Boring is good. Boring works. This has the whole "non scare factor" and ease of use going for it. But I do actually hope Ben makes a "Sexy" version of this. Slightly shallower height blade with some more rounded scales etc.
Thanks for the video Nick. Mine came bone dry and because of that a bit gritty. Took it apart cleaned it with alcohol pads and applied a minuscule bit of daiwa reel oil and wow! I do like the knife, I have the Ben blue but I wished the black stud matched the rest of the hardware which silver.
"Exxon Shabazz in fine form"... I literally laughed out loud. Brand new to the EDC/knife scene and have been enjoying your commentary/videos, sir. The Banter is at the top of my list as I'm putting together an urban EDC kit, thanks for the video!
Mine stripped the cutout first time i removed the screw. Now when i tighten the pivot screw the WE logo end spins.I had to superglue that part to stop it moving.Dont mind its fine and i love the knife but this was a bit dissapointing🤷♂️
Well a Ben’s knife design as per his belief is not meant to be a great knife ... just a knife for people. Not scary, easy going, allowing some office task and practical slicing, somehow affordable.. There you go. As simple as that.
No bells. No whistles. Just a solid looking knife that’s well thought out and made by an excellent manufacturer. If it was US made I’d be in. Sure wish Hogue would expand their product line by working with some up & coming designers.
This is honestly like an upgraded CRKT Squid for me. I loved that knife but sold it because I wanted to transition back to 3.5” blades. So looking forward to getting this knife in the post. I love the simple and utilitarian look. The only downside it has in my view is that it isn’t a frame lock. Other than that, I think I’m going to really like it.
like how easy the disassembly is, and your right sometimes boring is good. but there's no wow factor lol. still want one in ben blue. hopefully I will soon
Still thinking about the CJRB Feldspar you covered last month. D2 steel and classic lines with near perfect machining (counter sunk steel liners!) for 35 bucks. Normally I am a Kershw Fan Boy for Budget EDC but.....Yeah CJRB Feldspar for Budget EDC GOAT.
What is up guys?!? .. I have a blue on the way. Excited to get it. I like the simplicity of it, especially the satin and blue version I have coming. Not really into the tactical look.
Such a nice, no frills, design. But.... not designing it to be lefty-friendly is pretty crappy. Would it have compromised the design so much to leave a cutout for the pocket clip on the other side?
I can get this knife as sharp as any knife I own. Disassembled and cleaned today for the first time and can't get it to flick like it used to. Any tips?
Everything about this knife screams yes to me...until I look at the pocket clip. Non-reversible, once again we are banished to the not for you realm of the knife world.
It's a simple design, but simple in a reduced-to-the-archetypal-elements sort of way that makes me think that if Apple designed a knife… this would be it.
Solid little EDC knife but with everything else out there I just cant see myself purchasing this. Way more interesting knives out there that are just as good value wise but way less “boring”.
I guess that's one way to look at it. I've carried it for 6 months now, and I'd say it gets dirty at a similar rate to knives on washers. I guess for me, use = required maintenance, no matter the pivot mechanism.
Ben Banters I am a timber cutter and I would like to buy one off you and put it thru the paces. Are you interested in some real world sawdust and dirt feedback? Looks like a cool little knive.
Tyler Haley yea I have seen mixed reviews on it personally. Some people seem to love it while others say it’s totally not worth it. I did manage to hold it at a local shop and I will say just in that time it was a cool little knife. I’m wanting to get a small secondary knife and thought the 22 seemed neat. Still shopping though.
I'm a Z. T fan have several. I like small high quality knives .I've almost bought one several times .I need to see it and hold it before I drop $200 on it .I wonder about the action? Kerry
Liner lock and frame locks are inferior to the likes of compression lock imo (quicker to close less likely to cut fingers) i am waiting for a knife with compression lock or similar button lock, void opening(elongated hole) and flipper. Kind of a light weight smock with a bigger spydie hole. Bens knife looks short and fat, I like smaller knives 0450 is my #1 edc but not fat.
@@benbanters Tbh that's a great idea for a video. I'll have to get another Elementum tho lol. This knife, in no way, deserves WE Knife branding. It should 100% be branded as a Civivi. It is so basic and uninteresting, how does that represent WE.
I've heard that a couple times, and I think it was something WE talked about extensively internally. I'm glad they went for it on the WE line, despite it not being their usual fair. I heard someone say it looks like a pickup truck among a lineup of high-end sports cars. I like that analogy.
I'm sure people like the guy (Ben?), but the knife.. It's a bit meh. To me the most attractive thing is the S35VN steel, other than that, I prefer my D2 Squid with jade G10, and it's only 35 bucks, not $100+ for a small knife.
Decent little chinese made flipper, and the price is reasonable. But this is just another example of a limited available knife that most of us cannot get our hands on. Sure, maybe they will do more production runs, and I expect they will, but the reality is the rest of us average Joes wont be able to get one for what, 6 months? a year? And who knows what it will be like with US-Chinese trade relations. Anyway, thanks for the review :)
Thanks Nick. This knife..... This knife has got to be THE MOST uninspired design Ive ever seen. I like the way WE counter sinks their pivot to end up basically flush w/ the scale (whatever) this knife looks like a 5 year old drew it. I feel like the people who buy this, want to feel like they're "in the club" - even the knife community has sheeple. Fall in line everyone.
Your statement about people buying this to be "in the club" is absolutely ridiculous. There's a lot of people who like it for the small and simple design made with good materials and We quality. This is 1 of the least expensive We knives that they have ever offered. Bottom line is that I think it's a nice design and the fact that it's all sold out shows it. I also have yet to see any selling on the secondary market either, which is a good sign that people are happy with it. I guarantee I could get more than I paid for mine but I don't want to sell it because I think it's the perfect size. There aren't many knives I know of that can fit in the 5th pocket that I can get a full grip on and with the blade width this has. This has a great usable blade for how small it is. I really hope Ben continues on with new designs. I think a bigger version of this knife could attract a lot more people and I think just rounding the handle a little more could stop all the idiotic comments about this knife. I personally think it's a great knife as it is and probably has the smoothest thumbstud action out of any thumbstud knife I've handled.
I can't justify the $128 price tag for a basic liner lock. At this price you're competing with Bugouts and Paramilitarys. Sorry Ben, for 80 bucks sure. But not for 130.
I don't blame you at all. For $108 bucks, you can buy so many cool things, and I can't fault you if you don't want to spend your hard earned money on this. No harm, no foul.
I don't know how anybody can expect to get a We knife with S35VN steel and G-10 handle material for any cheaper. I think this is a great value for the price. All versions of the Bugout are more expensive with cheap flimsy scales and S30V steel is a step down from S35VN. This is also a better value than any Spyderco PM you're going to get. For this price you get FRN and a budget steel from Spyderco.
Looks like he is going down the same road as Laconico, bore them to death design wise and they will buy it out. Ugg, please I need a knife to talk to me not put me to sleep.
