When I wanted to quit, I remembered what my father said to me before I left for boot camp, "You'll wash out". Every time I felt like quitting, I used that to motivate me to finish, just to prove him wrong. I didn't know that he was proud of me until after he died and I heard it from his friends. He never said anything to me about it.

I'm a 31-year-old who was looking to give back to a country that has given me so much. So, a month ago, after three attempts, I finally passed the Air Force's PAST test twice and got my contract. Nov 9th I ship out for BMT. 8 weeks later I'll be at special warfare prep to get ready for Pararescue selection. I'd just like to say thank you to this channel as it was the first channel that informed me on what a Pj is and motivated me to begin this journey just over a year ago. The information provided here has been invaluable and I am forever grateful.

I attended military school and some courses. What I suffered the most was sleep deprivation. I was fine with combat, running fully geared up, lack of eating or eating a full meal in less than 5 mins and then run again, but I never got used to sleep deprivation for long periods of time. Now that I'm a bit old and no longer on active duty, I sleep 10 hours a day, every day.

YES, that is correct. There simply is no substitute for half way decent rest. Too much could also be just as bad as not enough. Also exercising or not, working or not, vacationing, or otherwise if you sleep in a physically uncomfortable position when you wake up it will only feel worse.

I went to SF selection at 32 years old, We started with 240, and 77 were selected. I Graduated the Q course at 34 years old, with 22% of the original class graduating. Rewind back When I was 19, in Airborne school, the Ranger liaison gave daily announcements at the last formation for anyone that wants to volunteer for RIP. I had no clue what RIP was but this dude wore a Black Beret, had a Ranger Tab and was a Fking Beast, and I wanted to be a beast too, so I volunteered for it. In Airborne school I started out in a 12 man room, then During Jump week, I was the only one left in the room. Everyone else quit or got dropped. Every day after training, I kept seeing empty bunks and wall lockers until I was alone. Jump week was lonely for me..lol. So after Airborne graduation, we get on a few buses and head over to the old WW II RIP barracks at the top of Cardiac Hill. We unload the bus, into a formation that was waiting for us….from there we did over 600 push-ups, 600 side straddle hops, 600 flutter kicks, everything we did was 600 and we low crawled around the WW II barracks for over 4 hours. What kept me going was the instructor did all of this shit with us. We lost well over 100 men and it wasn’t even day one. My RIP class graduated under 30 men. I think we started with over 300. If you get in top physical condition and the right mindset everything will be cake. Just like the song says…….100 men will test today, and only 3 win the Green Beret, I think of how I looked to my right and left, in formations and over the days of training people would just disappear. Now that I’m old and broken sometimes people ask me if I’d do it all over again…… I just smile and I think to myself……this guy has no clue.

I believe every human being has the same purpose, which is self-mastery, while serving family, community, nation, and the world. Every human being has a specific "mission"/ "calling". This has nothing to do with religion. Are you being called to be a special operations member?
Lack virtues, character, values, and ethics will force most candidates to quit or fail.
Special Operations members who lack virtues, character, values and ethics, get kicked out, divorced, and/or have Uniform Code of Military Justice proceedings.

Thanks for your videos. (You mentioned in the man plan video that you are not doing it for money, this is why I think we should thank you). In my opinion, civilians can learn a lot from it, e.g. from the personal apperance video. As to me, your videos really helped me to "endure" more. For example, not eating something as soon as I feel just a bit of appetite, not complaining about cold temperatures or other inconveniences. Do not get me wrong. This is nothing compared to what soldiers in the field struggle with, but it is also worth a lot to toughen up im everyday life. By now I can feel a difference compared to what my peers complain about, and I have always been one of the tougher ones. When I was 15, one job during summer holidays was paving. I am also a martial artist. Today I trained ground fighting with a former soldier, a really though guy who was in the field, almost died there, and who endured a lot of crazy fights in the ring almost everyone I know would have given up. Today, he asked me, if I was ready to fight, like my life depends on it (of course meaning he would give me a hard time, but I should show him all I got). One Judo choke was especially painful, but I endured and the others said "He's got the spirtit". So, compared to other men my age (I am 26, I am though. And even I feel that I learn from your videos.
I thought, you might be happy to read such a feedback.
P.S. Of course, I will buy your new book soon.

I have been thinking about this for months because the approval rate for special forces in Germany is about just 10% and the reason is as simple as that they were not prepared and didn't know in what they were getting into, most people probably think that they are good enough and that the initial training wont be so hard, but in reality it is the most hard one because you need to discard almost everyone to leave only the best, so unless you are one of the best soldiers you know, you will probably quit special forces training or get kicked out

I wanted to be SF the first time I was in, but when I came back in after 9/11, I got a chance to go PSYOP, and I learned that, while it wasn't "door-kicker" cool, it fit me better. I'm not the biggest guy, I'm tough, mentally and physically, just not that strong and athletic (at least on par with other operators). No amount of exercise was going to make me what I'm not. I also have a sense of humor and don't take anything seriously. Not the best mindset for someone who has six other guys relying on them. PSYOP allowed me to be a part of that world, just not in a way where I was a danger or an embarrassment to them or me. Besides, I can't kick doors in as a civilian, but I can screw with people's minds all I want in the real world.

I can only speak from American army experience, but running in any sof unit is a huge thing. Like one of the main things. for us we had the standard 2 mile for pt tests, but we also had additional standards like a timed 4 mile every couple of months, running wearing pro masks, running in full kit etc. just a lot of running. And apart from physical standards and tests, the training just requires it a lot as well to qualify on different tasks to become fully mission qualified (FMQ)

“Do what you want to do, not be what you want to be.” I’ve thought about going SFAS in the past but I’ve since re-evaluated my priorities and am looking at WOFT or CID instead as those would be things I’d rather be doing on a day to day basis. I graduated 11B OSUT with no issues so I know I’m capable of taking it to the next level if I put my mind to it and train for it but I know my skills and abilities would better served to the military and the country if I find the niche that’s right for me instead of trying to be someone I’m not just to impress other people.

If you want it... embrace the challenge. The hardest part of most things is the last 10%... or closing the deal. Don't do 90% of tbe work and give up when there's only 10% left to the finish line. Unlike tv and the movies where everyone is equal, everything is fair, and there's participation trophies for everyone... in real life there are actual winners and losers, and you have to motivated to be a winner (and spoiler, life isn't fair, get over it).

This is why you should definitely spend a few years in your MOS before attempting to join the SOCOM community, as you’ll gain experience but also you’ll have a chance to get specialty training that help you along your way to become a SOF Operator. For example 50% of people don’t make it into a infantry Recce platoon, it’s challenging and difficult. It will help give you an idea of just how much harder SOF selection would be if you’re having trouble joining a Recce platoon and if you make it then you’ll have an upper hand compared to your own battle Buddies trying out for SOF.

I served in the USN in the 70s. Went to boot camp in Orlando, FLA. Don't laugh. If the temps were high and the black flag was flying strenuous exercise was forbidden. One afternoon I had gotten a pass to go to the commissary for toothpaste. I did that a lot. I was running along when I was stopped by an NCO. He asked why was I running with a black flag flying. I answered I'm from GA and I don't like cold weather. He looked at me confused and just said "carry on recruit". I'm much older these days but I still test myself daily.

I wanna write this because I wanna see what you think about this, as a kid I never did any hard work, I was fat, lazy, didn’t want to train, immature, eating like garbage. Today after high school I am a slightly different person. The difference is that I box or boxed, run miles and train hard but nothing compared to special ops and on my free time I play video games or fuck around mostly staying in the house. Because of my weak of a past I want to be a Ranger and change even more.
