@@kunimitsune177 More cards is more chaos. The more cards there are the more combinations there are to try out. Why do I care what artwork is on the card as long as the card works?
The best part of that ending for the first game is, you can see that they pitched a go for the throat. So CGB could not even play annex to make a Demon to block and trade with their demon to buy time for Greed to bleed them dry. That 6/6 would have gave just enough of a clock to kill and CGB would have had 1 draw to find some kind of answer and the opponent needed to basically draw nothing but lands for multiple turns. Opponent basically found the one and only line to lose the game.
I actually played against this yesterday and it was an insane match up. We both went down to five cards left in our library, I only have like 5 life left, and ended up losing. But still was one of the most memorable arena games I will ever play
CGB!! I found you from Cimoooo's collabs. I want to thank you and I hate you for getting me into Magic. I just played my first commander game and loved it
The funny thing is that I also wasn't aware of Greed's gambit's effect on being destroyed. I only realized it when an enemy played the card and because I knew of the combo I immediately destroyed it just so they wouldn't give it to me. I didn't realize that it would also blew their whole board and hand. It was funny to say the very least.
@minze202 Yeah, honestly, Pact is so so so much better. Gambit is just bad. Notice how CGB won both games he played the Pact, and the Gambits bit him back nearly every time. Play around with Demonic Pact. It might not look like much at first, but the more you play it, the more you realize just how nuts the value is.
Old combos coming back make me miss playing Davriel's Withering + Vesperlark + Cruel Celebrant combo. That even took 3 cards to setup, but you could technically soft lock the game playing the combo without Cruel Celebrant, which was probably the main reason it was banned.
Chris P is such a nice guy! He worked at our local shop. I practiced / tested for Portland GP with T Woo and Adam. Chris was super secretive of his deck. I never knew he was playing it until the GP. I made top 300 with mono red. It was my first GP. I gave away a game win to my first opponent because I missed a trigger. I remembered before the next step but I was too honorable and said no, you got it. I won the match but that game loss came back to haunt me. I fought threw so much Temur energy too. Lol. Good times.
@@honestabe411not everyone can afford the time or gems to craft a thousand dual lands + a reasonable deck. It's the biggest reason why mono red is popular
You should know that extensive data gathering and analysis has been done, proving that keeping 2 or fewer lands makes it much more likely you get mana screwed by the shuffling algorithm. Keeping 4 or more lands makes it much more likely you get mana flooded. Keeping 3 has practically no deviation from the expected value. Using a mulligan fixes this bug, so that keeping any number of lands does not affect the shuffling algorithm. The fact this happened to you both ways, one after the other was funny to see.
There is also that blue spree exchange control card you could use to give an opponent Dross at the last counter or exchange one of the enchantments for 2 mana
46:50 Notably, the demon doesn't work as bait at all as you'd just sac it to one of the Gambits in the end step, so playing around No More Lies is correct.
I did something similar, just no blue. Keeping it simple in Rakdos. I threw in Volcanic Spite and Demand Answers for card draw as there are plenty of times someone Get Lost my enchantments. Then its mostle board wipes and removal. The only thing I lose to consistently so far is pure Azorius control, but that's hardly a surprise.
You're right that the 20 total combo pieces is too much. I started with 16, no demons, then went fown to 12, 6 donations and 6 payoffs. I was planning on recording that deck for tomorrow, but oivoted to something elsesince you released this today. I'll probably show it on Wednesday.
I think the main problem with the deck is the gambit. The card wins too slowly if you can pass it on and if anything goes wrong it demolishes you. It kind of baits you with the value but is nearly always a bad play (which is, interestingly enough, pretty good design for that name).
Yeah, honestly what has really made me hopeful is not foundations. But the Bo1 ban on leyline. The entire fact that wizards actually decided to do a unique balance change for Bo1 is huge in my book.
Really dislike the new intros, they spoil spicy moments without the satisfaction of seeing the build up, and when the moment actually comes in the video you recognize the situation and you know what's gonna happen already. Deck's awesome though and so are you CGB!
