As a Social Worker I took a course in Statistics. In the course I leaned that "Significant" in statistical term can mean just slightly better than zero effect. When I hear someone say that a study showed product "X" to be "significantly" better than nothing or something else, i think that it may be as low as 1 or 2 percent better which statistically speaking is significant but not not really much of an improvement at all. It is interesting that when the term "significantly" is used it is hardly ever followed by the actual percentage of improvement. Aside from that, I loved the video and the information you provided. I had never heard of this product but will buy it and try it. Thanks for the video.

    • @joelangford7601
      @joelangford7601 Год назад +1

I am glad you made the point about statistical "significance." On first listening, it is easy to think this stuff is like a miracle. But these "significant" effects may be quite modest. Of course, even if they are modest, it would still be important to find an herb which has effects on so many body functions. I loved the video, but would like to hear a lot more details about the studies. Guess I will have to go the literature myself for that.

I think it could be very impactful in terms of inspiration and awareness of neurology and other specialties. Maybe you could even create a character named Neurogal (and her colleagues) to provide explanations. I know even adults don't realize how many specialties and sub-specialties exist, and what their roles fully involve. I feel that your content can reach and benefit people of all ages.

Thank you for this video. From my anecdotal experience it has worked for me by reducing anxiety. I no longer ‘worried’ as I laid down for sleep. I don’t know how, it just did. I’m 57 and in good health. You know when you have anxiety. The interesting thing is that you don’t know when you are not anxious. Only after a period of time, reflecting back, did I realize that. I do take breaks every 90 days for 2-3 weeks. Why? I don’t know. Just felt right.

    Thank you for this presentation.
I've been watching my waking up time change from 5:00 A.M to 2:00 A.M. since I retired a few years ago. I'm not sure what the change with my circadian rhythm means, but I've heard that cortisol may have that effect on sleep patterns. Also, I have made diet changes and stopped smoking cigarettes and drinking any alcoholic beverages. While living healthier and exercising daily, along with mainly drinking water all day, has made me feel better for the most part; I rarely get 8 hours sleep. I've tried ashwaganda before , a couple times because I slept a little deeper , but I didn't remember hearing about ashwaganda's ability to lower cortisol.
This presentation gives me an extra reason to benefit from ashwaganda and that's called lowering cortisol.
2 of the several brands available that you listed ,who have 'USP tested and approved' labels are for sale at one of my favorite herbal remedies stores. I purchased one of them yesterday and this video pop's up. Who'd a thunk it? Anyhow. I put this video in my 'Better Health' playlist. Now comes the investigation part where I make a choice of the available options from the best sources. It may take a while to collect personally accurate data pertaining to better sleep patterns and possibly even a little weight loss. I also plan on monitoring blood pressure and heart rate, since you mentioned it.
Also, the part about the absorption time of several weeks before ashwaganda's full affects can be felt, must be considered. I appreciate your dive into this rabbit hole ahead of me and all the research and the links to the other rabbit holes along the trail that you have followed before I got here. Toodle loo.

It is rare for "studies" to be performed on natural herbs... compared to pharmaceuticals or synthetics which are manmade and prone to be dangerous due to human error alone. Big Pharma needs studies that they usually pay for to get approval for use. The government can't approve what God already made nor can they permit, license or regulate what God made. Also, allopathic or licensed doctors cannot tell you chicken soup can treat your cold because there isn't a "study" to back it up.... even though everybody knows chicken noodle soup helps. So Big Pharma can control what doctors prescribe and since their products are the only ones with studies and "approval", Big Pharma makes ungodly amounts of money while effectively banning vitamins and natural supplements of every kind... whether they work or not.

If you're super stressed every single day, you need to speak with a Counselor. People who take supplemental herbs should always do so with every bit of knowledge they can get but herbs are helping so many people who have no health insurance. It's great that you do have it. I do too, but millions do not. Remember, never sit in your Ivory tower and wag your finger at people.

The reason why I stopped consuming it was that the activity in the central nervous system cools down (felt sedating), and didn't work well with my yoga exercises and finger mudras. The energy levels decreased also, so I replaced Ashwaganda with Rhodiola Rosea, a herb having many of the same effects as Ashwaganda. The Rhodiola Rosea feels more energizing and can repair damaged neurons, and improves the signalling between the neurons.

I too am very hesitant on supplements I take for myself whether it's for medication or vitamins. As you have said, there are not too many clear side effect explanations for these supplements and Pharmacists absolutely need to take that into consideration. But after seeing this, I have learned a lot about both the benefits and side effects of Ashwagandha! For me personally, my preference for calming anxiety is by watching ASMR videos 💙 Watching them helps he a lot more with relaxation since I appreciate more visual and audio triggers than having supplements haha. Now it’s been a few months I’m unable to sleep well. Honestly I’m up all night with my iPad. I turn it off but still unable to sleep. I’ve tried sleep aids they make me feeling weird and groggy. Others like melatonin or Benadryl do nothing for me. I’m sure my cortisol levels should be off the chart. I’m up all night and go to sleep after 6 to 8 am. Today I have not fallen asleep and it’s 9:38am. I’m trying to lose weight from 190 down to 168. But it has been weeks I have been plateau from 170 to 168 for almost 2 months. I have survived Hashimoto thyroiditis for 50 years this year, 34 years undiagnosed and the last 2 years treated with immunesuppresents with much success. My question is three fold. First, would you recommend Ashwagandha for me. With an undiagnosed autoimmune condition for 36 years I developed some really bad habits and suffered with extreme stress my entire life. For instance, I pretended to I was well because doctors told me nothing was wrong. This plus a serious habit of eating sugar and sweets of all kinds to reduce, fatigue/exhaustion to start with and later distract from the pain associated with inflammation. I don’t know if I’m addicted to sugar because sometimes it seems like the pain, anxiety and fatigue trigger the need for sugar treats. Secondly, do you agree with some researchers that Ashwagandha can be effective supplement for Hashimoto thyroiditis? And Thirdly, my 89 yo Mother has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism but not taking any anti thyroid meds, can her anxiety and insomnia possibly be helped with a small dosage of Ashwagandha in her daily multivitamin ?

I wonder, i know that medications that affect GABA receptors like Xanax, basically just "mask" the stress but as soon as you go off the medication, the stress you had before is worse. I wonder if that's the same for aswagandha since I see it does affect GABA receptors too as you said. If so that means that taking it may only provide short term benefits (just like xanax) for as you stop taking it, the anxiety and the stress you had before could be worse & potentially develop other mental disorders, correct me if I'm wrong. Anyhow, I guess more long term studies should be done on this thing. I wonder what do you think about what I said DR Neurogal, and whether you're taking aswagandha yourself?

Hi, thanks for the video. I took KSM-66 Ashwagandha for over 2 years; recently stopped in Feb 2023 after reading that I should cycle on and off it, but I can't find anyone that explains how to cycle on and off. I am Retired Army, disabled with anxiety, depression and PTSD and I can admit that it helped me alot, with those conditions and sleeping. Can you please advise me, is 6 weeks the standard? Thanks again!

I am loving your videos Doc❤
They are so helpful and informative. Your delivery is amazing and easy to understand. I am in my late 40’s and I have struggled with stress and anxiety for decades z however I never wanted be on benzodiazepines. Tried it once and it wasn’t for me. I have heard about ashwagnda (so check) and other supplements, but I didn’t know which brand to trust because I have also heard about them not having the ingredient or hardly any of the ingredient that I bought it for.
This video and the short list that you recommended is a huge help! Thank you

Same! Did you find one that worked yet. Which brand did you take and how much capsules did you take? I’ve taken around 8 brands and all did nothing for anxiety. I took 1 then 2 then 3 then went up to 12 caps with each brand and did not lower anxiety or improved my sleep. Gave it a week for each brand and nothing.

Great video - I do have a question, what if our cortisol levels are really low? Will Ashwagandha help regulate levels?

Personally, I'm still going with placebo. I've tried a couple of those brands and more reputable ones for extended periods of time. Not a hint of improvement in any category. If there are any true benefits, it's in people who only have the tiniest hint of insomnia or anxiety. Shit, most of the time today I see people throw around "panic attacks" and they're just describing basic nervousness.
