There are plenty of players who have protection in their contracts just in case they get injured for an example of a player gets injured, seriously and decides to retire. They can’t ask for the money back that is left on their contract if it’s structured in their contract, the Broncos tried to do that according to reports to Russell Wilson, but he said no I’m not going to take the injury cause out of my contract.
