- A visit to Goblin Valley State Park is a fascinating opportunity to see strange hoodoos, or goblins. It's a surreal experience as we take a tour in the morning and evening to walk among these pinnacles.

Located in Green River, Utah near the San Rafael Swell, is Goblin Valley State Park. Much like it's more famous "sibling", Bryce Canyon National Park, hoodoos are the predominant feature of the park. Here they are called goblins.
The goblins in the park are made of harder rock sitting atop softer sandstone. The sandstone slowly erodes over time leaving the well-known mushroom shape that is dotted all over the park.
There are three valleys to walk through. Visitors are free to roam the area as they want. Be sure to visit near sunset as the setting sun casts a glow on the sandstone making them glow a deep red color.
Beyond the three valleys, there are six miles of hiking trails available including one to what is called the Goblin's Lair - a slot canyon that has been sealed by rock fall on one end.
Due to the delicate nature of the goblins, climbing on the hoodoos is prohibited.

Welcome to the Cactus Atlas! We are Glenn and Amy and invite you to join us as we visit all sorts of locations across the American West. We tour both natural and man-made attractions.
Our base of operations is in the Phoenix, AZ area. We do a lot of hiking and day trips as well as campground reviews, and hope that we will be a great resource if you are planning a trip to the American West. We also hope to delight you with our exciting adventures!
This is the definition of church, your background music man! Nailed it!
Thank you so much! 😊
I Was Waiting For The Sand People of Star Wars to Pop Out at You... Nice 3 Valleys of Goblins, Mushrooms, SideRocks, Ribs Cages & One Dead Head T-Shirt... Planet Zanadu ! 🌵👍🏻🤠🍻
One really can see all sorts of things in the rocks! They're awesome!
I have great memories of this place. Way back in the mid 70s I spent a couple of days here. Riding my motorcycle through old dried up riverbeds was fantastic fun. Back then there was nobody else around. We didn't see a single person for an entire day.
That certainly sounds like great memories indeed! Lots of fun I bet. 😄
Hi Glenn & Amy, You all captured some amazing views of GOBLIN VALLEY State Park! I’ve been there, but must have missed two-thirds of it. My husband and I must have just explored Valley #1. But as you say, there’s a reason to go back and see the rest of it! Great 👍 job on this episode of The Cactus 🌵 Atlas!
Thank you so much! We always love a reason to go back and see things. 😄
This reminds me of one of the scenes in Galaxy Quest where they landed on a planet to grab a beryllium sphere. Sure looks similar! Glenn, you should sing more often. This was a really cool place. Utah never disappoints.
There have been a number of movies filmed in the park actually... Galaxy Quest is listed as one of them! 😄
😍I've never been there but I've been to many other UT parks. But maybe one day I'll plan and go, it looks cool. Thanks for the great video😎👍
It's a super cool place. Really feels like some other kind of planet. 😄
Amazing video. Thank you 👏
Goblin very 😀 looks very nice 👍
Thanks! It's really a cool place!
For years this place was known as 'Mushroom Valley'. But the government, in their wisdom and anti drug paranoia, Officially named it 'Goblin Valley'. It is an interesting and magical place that's well worth a visit. I enjoyed your video.
It kind of looks like a landscape from an old 60s Sci Fi movie. Almost alien looking but really cool.
Most accurate description yet. It really does look like something cooked up in the 60s, doesn't it? Not surprising as the location has been used in numerous movies and tv shows.
That is sure a great place to explore...so cool...looks like a scene from Star Wars for sure...what a great share!
Thank you! 🤗 A number of movies were actually filmed there!
Really enjoyed your pleasant, friendly narration as you explored, and showing us so much of each valley. Great job!
Awesome, thank you! Happy to bring Goblin Valley to you.
You should check out the Bisti Wilderness area, near Farmington, New Mexico. Another beautiful, sculpted area. With the bonus of some really cool petrified wood. My brother and I spent a day hiking in there, a few years ago.
We have a few places in that area pinned on our map. Just have to fit it into one of our future trips, but really look forward to exploring that area. Thanks for stopping by and your suggestion. We appreciate it. 😊
I think I saw a one eyed face with the snout of a dragon next to each other. Really a fun place to go and use imagination. Totally a place you could get lost in.. thanks for the trip there
I saw a ton of cartoon-like noses and large hats when I edited the video. I assume because of the word "goblin". 😂
Very nice video!!!
Thank you very much!
This looks like a very cool place. Have never heard of it before this. Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention. Lynn and Danny
No problem! It's certainly one of the more unique places we've encountered!
What a cool place! I saw snoopy!!😂😀 love checking out new places with you guys!!👍
He has a rock in Sedona so why not Goblin Valley too? 😂 (I'm going to have to find him now!)
Video up big up
Love the intro, dude. Great vid!
Glad you liked our video! Thanks! 😊
I love the hoodoos!
We do too! They're pretty unique, aren't they?
Came here because Watch Mojo made a video about natural wonders that were ruined by people and the Goblin Hoodoos made it to their number two spot.
Ah... I assume they were talking about the scout leaders who toppled the hoodoo. Still a shame about that... 😞
@@CactusAtlas Correct. That made me so upset.
Wish we would have stopped the last time we were in Utah! We went to Capitol Reef but didn’t stop here. Next time! Looks beautiful!
It's a unique place for sure. The funny thing is when planning for this trip we tried to fit in a visit to Capitol Reef but there was no availability at the campgrounds. One day!
It's sandstone . Rocks are just crystalized dirt at some level.
I'm confused as to why they are called goblins. To your point I think you need to be on mushrooms to see goblins :P Cool place, strange name.
I've seen some photos of examples in there that look extra goblin-like. (this one in particular -- enchantedamerica.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/utah-goblin-valley.jpg )
🔥
Very cool place! Nice video.
Thank you very much! It really is a cool place.
@@CactusAtlas I'm moving out arizona way at the end of the year. Can not wait!
Awesome! Always best to avoid the summer heat when doing moves especially here! 😂
I really liked your coverage of the park. I want to go see it since it’s so unusual. It was difficult though to listen to your voice trying to block out the music at the same time.
Thanks for the feedback. We try to balance audio for different devices but don't always get it right. 🤷♀️ We'll use your feedback in the future. Thanks again.
@@CactusAtlas you’re welcome. Keep up the good work with the videos. For now it’s my way of traveling.
How did you stay oriented among the formations?
Glenn didn't really... just wandered about. 😅
11:42 whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat 😂
