@@davep1103 The NFL is a QB driven league. Not a pass rush driven league. Hate to speak facts on ya but it's the truth. Teams without QB's are Irrelevant in the National Football League. The very reason you guys have a losing record 3rd in the NFC North which outside of Greenbay is a garbage division. While Raiders are 5-2 tied 1st in the AFC West which one can argue the toughest division in football. Certainly one of the most competitive.

The Raiders offered Mack a deal the off-season before Gruden came to a max deal that would make him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. He and his agent refused it and wanted to wait for Aaron Donald’s deal. Carr even made his extension team friendly to ensure that they would be able to sign Mack as well, which they could have. Mack and his agent were the problem. Gruden wanted him. Who wouldn’t? When Donald signed his new contract the Raiders knew they couldn’t pay that much money, especially the guaranteed money, to one player. In the end, each team got what they wanted. Mack didn’t get a revenge game. They came and went in London. He took the L. We moved on by the time he played us again. Dumb video that didn’t describe what really went down. Maxx Crosby> Mack.

I hated the fact we trade our best player. But laughed when gruden wanted him back 2 or 3 seasons later. Made no sense
It was a great trade for the raiders and saved a ton of cap space, problem was they drafted terribly with the golden haul of picks they got.
Then it was a terrible trade
This was a good trade if you look at the raiders timeline as to where they’re on terms of being able to actually be a playoff team it’s 2022 and beyond. Mack since being on the bears has had 1 really good year and 1 decent year and now has been injured and subpar production to his standards. His contract was massive and it doesn’t make sense to pay a player that’s on the decline when you need to free up cap to try to build for the future to be able to compete for a super bowl in LA (talking in perspective of 2017 when trade was made) . Long story short raiders wanted to build for the move to LA to fill seats and be competitive and Mack didn’t fit there timeline. Edge rushers are like running backs to me because they’re expendable and you tend to regret signing them a major contract. Look at the raiders present day with max Crosby and now chandler jones arguably both of these guys are better than Mack right now. In my opinion it was a good move
Edge is nothing like RB tho most edges are good for like 10 years in the leauge without issues. Mack is the o line edge you could name in the leauge who actually regressed that fast

The only reason this ended up being bad for The Raiders is the failure of the 1st round picks and bad drafting overall. Maybe you can account for the fact that we've drafted horribly for a while now and say it was a losing effort, but at the time as a Raiders fan I thought the trade was basically a wash at the time. I really couldn't see us being able to pay Mack and still build on top of that!

That’s the way i look at it. Raiders got like 2-4 players while bears got Mack and then traded him a few years later all while most of those players from those picks are still on the team.
That's Ignorant. The Bears were #9 in Defense when he got there and was #5 in Defense in 2021. Bears Defense was already Great, He didn't have to carry the Bears like he had to carry the Raiders.

gruden was just not the best coach he could've been, he made questionable free agency signings always signing old guys then releasing them, bad trades including more than just mack and cooper, and he only managed to go 22-31 in his 2nd tenure. i liked jack much better than john just for the teams sake.
They had to trade him because the owner was broke... Gruden was not the GM... The Raiders owners would have to put millions in Escrow and they couldn't.

The trade was great. We got tremendous value for Mack. But Gruden/Mayock squandered the picks. We used the picks on Josh Jacobs and Damon Arnette. And then wasted the extra cap space money on guys like Trent and Antonio Brown. The deal itself however. Made a lot of sense and had good value.
It will never make sense because Mack is better than all those players combined. We are talking about a generational talent that wanted to be a Raider and is a great leader.

But he wanted to be the Highest. So they traded his ass. GTFO raiders won that trade and the bears are looking to rebuild again. Mack was better as a Raider, than he was with the Bears. They may have fucked those picks up but they were a 10 win team that just got even better this year while the bears traded their best player on defense for a 3rd and 6th rounder while they gave up 2 firsts for him and are looking to rebuild once again.

We could’ve had something with Mack and Crosby right now but they messed it up. And yeah he didn’t have much success in Chicago but that’s cuz their QB and team sucked. They did make the playoffs with him and had the best defense for like 2 years. If you want to deny that that’s totally fine but let’s not act like the Raiders making a playoff appearance excuses those horrible picks/contracts.

Instantly regretted it? No. The first time the Bears & Raiders played after the Mack trade was in London during the 2019 season & the Raiders won the game. Trent Brown, in one of the few notable moments he had with the Raiders, neutralized Mack. So, no, “instantly regretted” is not the right wording.
How can you say it was a bad trade… I’m a bears fan and even I can see it was a good one for the raiders Mack had one good season and then was injury prone.
