You know cancer really sucks and we all know that. I have lost so many family members too it, starting with my precious a Dad. My brother died in June from the same thing my Dad did and my husband has survived two rounds of it as well, but man there is just something get wrenching about a child having it’s just the pure innocence of them and just getting started in life. My heart goes out to this family and all families that have had you deal with some kind of cancer. Hold your family near and dear, because we are never promised another day on this earth and every day is a blessing. You don’t completely heal from it, you just learn how to live with it, you can’t replace a loved one.
Maya Thompson is his Mom and Woody is his Dad. They now have a daughter as well as the other two boys. Taylor is an amazing person with a good heart. She loves her fans and people.

I cry every single time I hear this song. It’s so beautifully written and I love that she gave his mom writing credit.
Taylor just happened upon her blog and was moved by Ronans story, she wrote to his mom and she told her stories about him and they created this beautiful song together. It is genuinely one of my favorite songs of Taylor’s and I can’t listen to all the time because I will cry so much.

@@cc1526 Thanks although, to be honest, I have to admit that I'm skeptical because, to me, the two videos seem identical and I don't see how her lips would be perfectly in sync if one was dubbed. And why would anyone want to dub it? I can't see any motivation for taking the time and effort to do that - especially back before we had AI to assist with the project. Do you have some inside information about this? What makes you think one is dubbed? I'm curious to know what I'm missing. Maybe my ears just aren't sensitive to notice the notice the differences.
@@gaylenwoof oh I don’t think it’s dubbed, I know it’s dubbed 😆 the most obvious reason is in the version I linked, there’s literally clapping because it’s a live performance. Lol the dubbed version has no applause cause it’s the studio version.
Now I HATE to critique Taylor’s singing because this was such an emotional song, but the live was slightly flat at times which is different from the dubbed version. This is NOT a critique on Taylor cause she is going flat due to her getting choked up but you asked how I can tell and this is honestly how. (It’s also why I find it more impactful - the imperfection and realness of it is more moving to me.)
And the third and maybe even more obvious reason than the first is the original live performance didn’t have a musical break between the second chorus and bridge. In the version you posted, there’s a long pause and it shows her starting to tear up. That’s a cut from the end of the song. In my version, she goes straight to the bridge and then that same tearing up scene is shown after she ends the song and everyone is clapping for her. The person who made the video you posted didn’t have any video footage to put in that musical break in the studio recording so they took video footage from the end of her performance to fill the space. Go back and watch it again and you’ll see.
I also am a musician so I can just tell. Like for instance, the lead guitarist missed a note when he was picking the intro and that didn’t happen on the dubbed version cause it’s the studio. Anyway, hope this helped answer your question!

Sadly, there’s always going to be Negative Nancy‘s on social media. Most of them also come at you behind an anonymous account so they don’t mean anything if they’re that cowardly nor do they know you. Sorry that people were mean and hurt your feelings. It's probably the usual culprit - jealously. You're kind and beautiful and have a good husband who loves you. I'm also guessing they're young and petty. Older, wiser and frankly better people see you for who you are. Honestly...consider Taylor the best example of how to handle petty haters. If you know something of what she went through with Scooter Braun, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Scott Borchetta, not to mention their legions of mindless sycophants who tweeted snake emoji's at her when she was cancelled back in 2016 you know she's been through it. And if someone as amazing as Taylor Swift gets hate, then there's no hope for any of us being targeted for no good reason. Taylor's been dealing with people constantly telling her throughout her whole 20 year career that she's not good enough - how she's not living up to some standard. It's one of those songs that never looses it's impact. The level of songwriting skill and the empathy Taylor had to write this.
When Taylor got in contact with Maya, she asked if she could write a song about Ronan and donate all the proseeds from the song to cancer research. Taylor also asked for permission to use some of Maya's words from her blog to write the song.
So Maya didn't acttually sit down write te song with Taylor but Taylor put her as a co-writer because she used things Maya said on her blog
She’s one of those performers that’s just nice!
That co-writer credit is going to be quite the blessing for Maya going forward a cause she’ll get a stipend for every copy sold, whether single or album, as well as a stipend every time the song is played.

Oh no, I didn't know "Soon You'll Get Better" was about Taylor's mom. Now it's gonna be even harder for me to listen to, but it certainly explains why I immediately connected it to my dad's cancer.

This song hits so strong. My son tried to take his life in 2007 and is no longer mentally with us. I mourn him every day. He is in a 24 hour supervision facility, as it’s more than we can physically handle. This changed our whole family. I will never quit missing my son.

My late boyfriend, Alex, died in the ICU of an undiagnosed heart condition seven years ago. We were together for 2 months shy of seven years. This song calls to mind those last days of holding his hand and telling him how very LOVED he was. We knew that he wasn't going to make it, but I wished so hard that the doctors were wrong right up until his heart stopped beating. I miss my sweet man.

When I had my kids everyone was saying "I love you to the moon and back" well I changed it to "I love yOu to Heaven and Back!" I lost my oldest when he was 22 (25 days before he turned 23) ...its been almost 11 yrs and I miss him so much.

So the story behind the song is that maya was chronicling the blog and when Taylor was looking for how to deal with a family member who has cancer bc Taylor’s mom has battled cancer for years. She found the blog, and decided to take Mayas own words from the blog and wrote the song. So the song is in mayas words. They didn’t sit down and wrote the song together, rather Taylor used her storytelling skills to add to Mayas own blog entries. Ronans family receives all songwriting royalties from the song because Taylor gave maya the songwriting credit.

This song hits so hard. My 18-year old son was in a head-on collision on his way home his first year of university. He lived, but now 10 years later, he remains in this limbo land between coma and alert, called a minimal state of consciousness. We care for him at home. About 3 months ago, he said Mom out of nowhere. He also tried to say Da. We never lose hope and my heart goes out to other parents that have lost a child.❤

Hey Ali, I don’t usually comment on RUclips videos but I wanted to try to add some positivity to counter the negative comments out there. I’ve watched a bunch of your reactions and I’m just shocked to hear you got so much negativity, I think you’re delightful and seem like the kind of person I’d want to hang out with. Try not to let the haters get you down, but I know that’s easier said than done. In the words of Taylor Swift, “you are not the opinion of someone who doesn’t know or care about you” 🩵
This song slayed me when I heard it the first time 8 years ago. Taylor took words from Wendy’s blog about her son to write the song.
My best friend from high school didn’t lose her 5 year old daughter Amber to cancer, but the carelessness of two drunk drivers who were drag racing their vehicles in the opposite direction. It was 2/11/2011 when Michelle and Amber were having a girls day and while they were getting ready for the day, Amber asked what God’s face looked like. Michelle was hurt bad in the accident also, so when she was given the news that Amber had been killed instantly in the crash, she was understandably devastated. She was then able to hold Amber until she had to go to surgery.
Amber’s funeral was one of the hardest experiences ever. At her graveside we released balloons and they formed into the shape of a heart and we all took comfort from it. Like she was saying it’s all going to be okay I know what God looks like now!
The trials for the mfers who killed her were horrible and the guy who hit them head on got off Scott free.
Michele and her husband weathered the storm by keeping Amber still ever present to this day. Last year she should have graduated from high school and Amber’s parents started a scholarship in her name for one boy and one girl in Clearwater, KS.
They are incredible people and I learned a lot about grief with God’s grace.
You both are great (and so is Taylor). Don’t listen to the haters they’re probably jealous of you! I love this saying “what people think of you is none of your business”. The most freeing day of my life was when I went back to not caring what people thought about me (at work) and being me. They have no control over you and your life, ignore them.

OMG. I'm right there with you guys. My grandson was diagnosed with leukemia at 4. In our case, he was able to recover after an eight year fight for remission. Heartbreaking. My 2nd grandson, is far worse, so much that I can't even share. To difficult.
