I deliberately watched this during the daytime because I thought it was going to be a scary haunted house type situation type deal. That being said I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The receptionist was getting on my last nerves 🙄. Had it been me, I’d have tweeted corporate and my entire stay would have been comped lol. I didn’t catch the twist until the last dinner when Julie said that she was going to eat the same dinner that she had the previous night. Something about that line triggered an “aha moment” 🤔.
I love that you guys review an array of films. Most of which I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Overall predictable but there's also an interesting commentary on class in this movie. Bill, the hostess, and the driver(?) all indulge in the daughter's delusions. Either they were instructed to by her as the sole owner of this house (I feel like this is not her first time dealing with this every Christmas) or they knew something was off but weren't going to say anything about it since Julie is the owner. I have the suspicion that the manager's name really isn't Bill and Julie just instructed him on letting her call him that. It was odd that she mentioned it was her father's name. I still don't understand why the hostess was making a fuss about the room in the beginning. Also, a small thing but notice that the hostess lied about wifi at the beginning. It looked like she was on the computer messing around on social media. I don't think Julie went to the roof once even to make a call. Idk just my interpretation.

It was so interesting that the big reveal was the girl has some sort of split personality because I picked up on that instinctively from the beginning but thought I am probably wrong.... but as soon as you said the actress was playing her mother and daughter I thought to myself "I bet it is going to end up that the mother or daughter is going to end up being in her head... holy crap I have chills because I was right! That is kind of neat!..... but that is so over played it is predictable. With so many movies having that as the twist you get to notice common themes that most or at least some people might not pick up on that clue you in early. I sometimes like movies like that but I can see how perhaps some people might find such a receptive overdone reveal to be too predictable. Unless you have never seen a movie with such a twist ending before then maybe you might be fooled and this kind of movie might come across as clever .... otherwise not.

Caught this at a screening last night. I wasn't sure how I felt right after it ended, as it was more so a "meh" feeling leaning good. But once I had a discussion about it and thought on it more to let it process, I really enjoyed it!

I have decided I am going to watch this movie. It really did not spoil it for me because I can pick up on nuances pretty well and almost no ending surprises me. Not even that movie a few years ago with Leonardo Di Caprio where he is supposedly investigating a murder at a mental institution ... I can not think of the name of the movie. I am sure Nick knows which movie I mean... Have you guys reviewed that one? I am going to look for it on your channel

Well, I like Tilda Swinton and I knew coming in that it would be a different kind of ghost movie (ghost of the past). It's also a psychological story. There are some things that defy logic though which gets in adding to the story becoming more confusing that allowing clarity of viewership and understanding. Personally, I just like old English houses and haunting scenery.

I don't think she acted out those things like pushing the wheelchair. It's just in her imagination. That's why she doesn't really look too old like the real mother at the end when she remembers the moment of her passing.
When "they" arrive, she insists to have a specific room - the same one where her mother died so it feels more real. Remember, she wants to see the other room first when she finds out that the original she wanted isn't available because at least it has to be similar.
After loss people often feel anger. We imagine conversations with our lost ones that never happened and correct our and even their mistakes.
She obviously sacrificed a lot for her Mother but couldn't please her.
She had to tell her how she made her feel but on the same time she wanted to forgive her which is why she creates the birthday.
This is how I see this story.
