This is such a great tip. I dont know why I never thought of it. I didnt enjoy using The pencils because they were so rough but adding the water makes sense. Also, I sometimes feel like you think you are boring, YOUR NOT! I am not very good at drawing so I enjoy watching how you do even the simplest of things. Also, its just relaxing. I really appreciate you and all you share.
Awww, thank you so much!! ❤️ I'm so happy to hear people enjoy the videos. :-) I will probably do another video with the pencils, possibly using the black liner that I love so much! 😀 I just think there has to be a way to utilize them better. Especially, since I have so many now. Lol. Thanks for watching!
I love how you did this. I always learn so much by watching your videos. I have a black underglaze pencil, but now that I know they can be wet, it will work so much better. Thank you 😊
Great to see you back and feeling better! Im so excited to watch this! I received some Amaco pencils as a gift (only 3 of them) so this video is right on my "WISH LIST' of how to use them! You read my mind!!!
I love that you are very tender hearted about animals!! I am too! I’m so glad to see your results with the underglaze pencils. I’ve been curious about them. Can you now clear glaze over them even though your piece is already fired once?
Hi Anne. Yes, I clear glaze over them and then do a glaze firing to cone 5. I only bisque fire them the first time. I am a sucker for an animal of any kind. My husband has forbid me to go the pet store alone. LOL.
Spot on. I tried this yesterday and frog was just way too much if a pain. It’s easy to wash off so no worries, but no the grog if you want to draw on it, even carving it’s too much. It’s great for other stuff though, just not anything you want to have nice five painting details.
When I use B-Mix w/grog, and I want to paint or write on it, I now make sure that I smooth the piece in the greenware stage, with a rubber rib to push the grog back into the clay and make it smooth. It really helps! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video i was thinking about trying UG pencils. My dad was a stonemason always sharpen his pencil with his pocket knife too.I watching Diane Antone a water color artist and she had a handheld sharpeneR I cant find the video know but it was pretty cool
Good luck with the UG pencils. I liked using then, but kind of wish there were more colors. Mayne there are, and I just didn't see them. But still, the cost for one pencil is pretty steep, I think vs. regular underglazes.
I know, I need to learn how to do that. But it won't be fired right away, unfortunately. I will show the finished product, though in a follow-up video. With the underglazes, at least they look the same as when I paint them, only glossy. Thanks for watching.
Lisa, I was looking for an older video that you had done. Is there a website where you have all your videos? I love re-watching them. I always learn something new. Thanks.
Hi! Yes, they are all on my RUclips channel. Scroll down, and you'll see an arrow on the side of the videos that will scroll down to the rest. Thanks for watching! :-)
@reneeamyot4261 yes, but it would most likely cover up the pencil mark. The pencils are basically just dried up underglazes. I applied a zinc-free clear glaze over the pencil markings.
I have not had a lot of luck with that. It may show through a little if you only apply one coat of white, but it would likely smear the underglaze pencil, unless you did a second bisque firing to vitrify the underglaze pencil. Mayco's Designer Liner Underglaze Squeeze Bottles will show through, but not with a crisp line. I have applied Mayco's Designer Liner over the top of white glaze, and it turned out nice.
So are they or are they not similar to regular colored pencils? I actually LOVE coloring with regular colored pencils and was hoping I could blend with underglaze pencils much like I do with regular colored pencils. I am so much better with those than paint lol.
Yes, underglaze pencils are very much like regular pencils. You can blend them just like regular pencils. I think the Amaco pencils are a little smoother, but they cost almost double what these do. So these are a great value.
I definitely think that would help. I also think they would work better on a grog-free clay, like porcelain. Probably a much smoother line. I have some porcelain, so maybe I'll do a video using that, and we can compare. 😀
Yeah, even if you wet them a little, they still have that chalky/crayon look. I'm not a fan either. I'll wait til I get it fired, but so far I don't see an advantage to using them.
Great tip. I bought some awhile back, but I prefer the shape of the Mayco fan brushes because they are flat. But whatever works for you is what's important. :-)
Being new to ceramics, I'm watching all the tutorials I can. Unfortunately yours has a ridiculous amount of commercials compared to others videos. The content was useful but the amount of commercials will have me skipping over your videos in the future.
Yeah, I wasn't either. I tried using them over a light coat of underglaze, but the pencil scratched it off. So I didn't really see a benefit in using them.
Thank you Lisa. I always learn from you!! Great tips on the pencils.

@@WildAcornsArtStudio can you put a liquid underglaze over a line of pensîl underglaze? Thank you

Are these undeglaze pencils safe for dinnerware...nontoxic n lead free ?
@@vrushaligokhale8825 No, they need a zinc-free clear glaze applied over them.
Hi there! Will a blue or black underglaze pencil show through if I apply white glaze over? Or does it only work with clear glaze
I have not had a lot of luck with that. Oh wow, really? I never know how many they put in there, because they don't show up on my phone. Usually you can skip over them, right?
I am not impressed with the underglaze pencils. They are too much work and the technique is too finicky.
