Should Islam fight at Welterweight next or continue at Lightweight?
Well he can't keep playing with his life to make weight. Plus no more feather weights want it with him and arman nearly did him on short notice.

What I seen at the weigh in was a man tested by that cut more than any other I've seen him. He's moving up at some point sooner rather than later. Maybe he has designs on double champ status? But as we know, welterweight is a whole other story.

I think khabib is still the most dominant fighter I've ever seen. But islam has a slight vulnerability and that makes him more entertaining to watch. He is still exceptional all round. Nah. Poirier just was wary of the takedowns and even with that Poirier had the advantage with striking i.e. like Colby and Masvidal, Sonnen vs Silva etc. Wary of the takedown and Islam knew quite well that he didn't want to stand and trade consistently with Poirier and went for takedowns as much as he could. Besides knees and arm punches, Islam wasn't doing much striking.

Makhachev is a judo black belt and has multiple gold medals in combat sambo. He has so many tricky takedowns, we just don't get to see them in MMA

Islams striking was on point tonight. had it 4-0 islam going into the fifth, at worst 3-1 islam.
I also had it 4 - 0 going into the fifth. One judge has it 2 - 2 !
Personally I had it 3-1 but I could see why some had it 4-0

That was the best Poirier we’ve seen. Hope he continues his career.
With that said he was outclassed tonight everywhere.
Islam had 45 more total strikes, 12 more significant strikes, and landed at a 56% rate compared to Poirier’s 40%.
Islam outsruck Poirier in every round save R4 which was 23 to 20 in Poirier favor.
In terms of grappling, Islam had 5 TDs with 2 sub attempts to Poirier’s zero, and Islam also controlled Poirier for over 20% of the total fight time.
Credit to Poirier for the damage inflicted, but he got at least as bad as he gave. As such, in terms of scoring this was likely to be a 50-45 for Islam (although possibly even 50-44 as R1 could’ve been a 10-8), but the champ exposed Poirier on the ground in the end.
Islam proved to be the superior fights on the feet, on the ground-everywhere.
And one last thing, there’s a certain subset of fans who need to understand something crucial. Stuffing a TD does not score points or do damage in MMA. After the 2 Volk fights and now this one, it is beyond tiring to listen to all the KO-bros react to a stuffed TD like it was a knock down or near-sub.

Dustin Poirier is one of my favorite Fighters ever in the UFC top 5 just for simply how humble he is, how he can take a darn punch , how he can deliver a punch sits down squats down and delivers like a freaking welterweight , and last but not least the amount of amazing top 10 Fighters that man has been in the ring with and just went Toe to Toe

What a great break down man. Still alot of people don't like the champ because of all the ground time. As a former wrestler, it's what I'm here for. The grind was real in this one and huge respect to Dustin, that switch was nasty and he defended so well. I felt he was always on the brink of changing the momentum. Such a great fight!

Good day sir - over the years there was always issues with judging in some fights - The way to resolve that is to implement a 5 judge system (having 5 judges basically) - instead of only 3 judges - Now doing it this way you will most likely get a more accurate result of who the TRUE winner is. So if 1 or 2 judges mess up or judge poorly out of 5 judges then you still have the other 3 judges who may not likely mess up too. So the probability of announcing the TRUE winner is greater. - Now if it's only 3 judges however then that probability is way lower and your left with eyes raised thinking to yourself if he/ she is the TRUE winner or NOT etc. - So having 5 judges your creating a buffer for errors and poor/ bad judging and still get the most likely TRUE winner of the match.
