This channel has introduced me to so many good authors I wouldn't have otherwise known. Lately, I've been enjoying Clark Ashton Smith, after I heard your rendition of "Mother of Toads". Awesome work on this one, as per usual.
Me too! I always loved reading and I started listening just before bed. Well I never was much into television anyway but now I'm not even watching things online! All my spare time is spent listening to stories and looking up the authors I like. M R James is my favourite, I also love Algernon Blackwood and of course Lovecraft but the list goes on. Thank you for posting these. You've enriched my life no end. 😊
It frustrates me that viewing the same video more than once doesn't count each view, only the first. I have enjoyed this video so many times now I'm sure it should count for something. A credit to Ian Gordon for his excellent skills in narration. I can almost speak this story by heart at this point lol
That was a tale and a half! I think that's my favourite one by Merritt, so far, (although Drone was very good as well) and superbly read as always. Thanks Ian my evenings would be much less entertaining without your constant and much appreciated efforts.
Great story and narration! I really like the man's description of what he saw. This one is neat and I would like to hear more about the mysterious area described. The description of the architecture really interested me. This is another fine tale i probably would not have found were it not for this channel! Each day, I hear another 💎 in this channel. Thanks!
A. Merritt is outstanding. He is criminally obscure and absolutely should be mentioned in the same breath as Lovecraft, Machen, Howard or any other weird fiction writer.
You could make a pretty cool video game out of this story. As you climb the stairs you have to stop in the caves to regain stamina and heal from the attacks of the pit people
The Pit People don't seem too evil to me... They seem like they are just extremely different... I mean, they never actually *hurt* him. Who knows what their intentions were? If it were me, I would have given myself over to their chants, just to see what would happen. Maybe they were trying to help him, somehow... Perhaps they were attempting to get him to ascend to their level of evolution. Perhaps the beings in the Pit were an evolved version of the people who had once populated the world above.
Awesome reading thanks a lot ! When do you guys upload readings? Do you have a schedule or do you upload randomly? I’ve listened to all you videos so far, looking forward to more.
Thanks again for listening! We upload every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Usually at 8pm (est). Wednesday schedules vary as usually we release readings produced in collaboration with Rue Morgue Magazine on that day. Currently, Wednesday readings are comprising Three Weeks of Weird, until the next Rue Morgue reading commences on the 22nd.
This sounds like a bad acid trip! I mean how does a conscious, sane mind think up this stuff? Sorry if I sound irreverent, but imagination is one thing, but this is pulled from a deeper place.
"Merritt survived a harrowing experience while a young reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer about which he refused to ever speak, but would, as Haining claims, mark a turning point in Merritt's life." I know this was two years ago but this is almost the answer to your question.

I knew Lovecraft, Smith, Bloch, Derleth, Howard, and all the others, but this video introduced me to Merritt. What a delightful tale of terror!

Thanks as always Joshua - there's more CAS in the works. We've got "The Mandrakes" scheduled for Friday the 17th. Ian

I love when you do one by an author I’ve never read before! This was great!
Merritt's stuff is fantastic. We'll certainly be recording more. Ian
The moon pool
One of the all-time great weird fiction stories - an inspirational story, for sure.

Superb in every way.

That's actually a pretty good idea.
This may well be your best work yet. Maybe a tie with "I Have No Mouth."
Thanks Adam! It's a true classic. Looking forward to working on more of Merritt's stuff soon. Ian

I heard people with INFP personality type can write like this
"Merritt survived a harrowing experience while a young reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer about which he refused to ever speak, but would, as Haining claims, mark a turning point in Merritt's life." I know this was two years ago but this is almost the answer to your question.
👁❤👌👍✌stories that you narrate in your voice that is a gift 2us all🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🕷🔥
Very much like At the Mountains of Madness
This guy is awfully verbose for someone that's supposed to be at death's door.

Awful lot of explorers and such from Greater Manchester or South Yorkshire in these tales 😆
