Harlem Heat are legends. Those guys walked into their roles knowing exactly what they were in for. No doubt they got called every racial slur imaginable infinity times, and just carried on with their Wednesday. Poking social issues is a really interesting feature of wrestling as an art form, and I admire the courage of the entertainers who take on these roles. I love that wrestling just presses the red button on hot contemporary social issues over and over again.

Grew up in a rather racist town as a kid, and went to school with one black kid, who was bullied by a lot of the other kids for being black. remember hearing stuff about black people, how they are all dirty and will steal your stuff. remember thinking as a kid, how could they all be bad. They took "trophies" from the war, including Nazi helmets, medals, and patches, and displayed them. Later bikers just a) accepted that as a part of their culture, b) used the Nazi iconography because they knew it offended people, or c) both. I'd go with c) being the most likely.

@@Kaltagstar96 Let me give you a foreign perspective. I'm from Australia, I've still yet to visit Harlem, yet as a kid growing up in the '80s and '90s, to me, Harlem was synonymous with rough neighbourhoods, you don't mess with the people, and so on and so forth. Harlem folks were often painted as coming from the poor, rough side of New York. That's the perception that many people, inside America and outside of America, have about Harlem.
I know that Bad News Brown _was_ born in Harlem, yet the thing about Brown is that he _played_ on it, he reminded you about it every 30 seconds. Brown's hometown had a reputation, so he worked it to his advantage. Did Bob Backlund remind you every 30 seconds that he came from Princeton, Minnesota? No. Did Randy Savage make a big deal about being from (his billed hometown) Sarasota, Florida? No, he didn't. Princeton and Sarasota don't have "reputations" engrained in popular culture. Harlem does.
Same thing with The Road Warriors, they were formed in Minnesota, yet they were billed as being from Chicago, Illinois. Understand this, and you'll understand why they were called Harlem Heat.

Booker T in his prime was the most physically gifted and talented wrestler in history, point blank period. Size, speed, athleticism, great mat wrestler and a high flyer. He was also great on the mic, and knew how to work a crowd. The guy had no weakness in his game, Stevie Ray on the other hand, not so much 😂😂😂

    • @markv1274
      @markv1274 День назад +1

To be fair, Booker T wasn't that good on the microphone. Stevie Ray was better on the stick. Want proof? Look at the interview from Spring Stampede 1997. It's far worse that either one of Sid's big blunders. Sid's mess-ups were done live. Booker T didn't even have the sense to request that the interview be done again (the pay-per-view was live, yet the interview was done beforehand). Even after Booker's blooper, Ray kept it together, the man didn't even flinch.
Stevie Ray was somewhat underrated. Was he on the same level as his brother Booker? No, he wasn't. However, he made a good contrast with Booker in Harlem Heart. Stevie Ray is the type of wrestler sorely lacking in the major American promotions today, he looked and sounded credible. Additionally, I've never heard a bad word said about Stevie Ray by his colleagues, and I've never heard of him injuring anybody in the ring. Stevie was a true professional.

The people watching wont hold back on what they want to say regardless of if you like it or not. They see it as they didn't show up for a wrestling show you just showed up to the event they happened to be at. Not making an excuse for them but these people were never going to turn up to a wrestling show normally and probably didn't again after.

WWE signed a deal with Netflix months ago that starts in January 2025. Monday Night Raw will air live on Netflix worldwide. Smackdown, NXT, and the monthly specials (Premium Live Events) will air live on Netflix in most of the world but not in the United States (where they will continue to air on USA Network, The CW, and Peacock respectively).
WWE Network is supposedly going to close everywhere when the deal starts, and it hasn't been confirmed what the fate of the archives will be. We could see WWE Network re-branded to "WWE Vault" or "WWE Classics." The content might move to Netflix. Worse case scenario, that content will no longer be available on demand. But with Harlem Heat's bravado and attitude, and this is important, as heels in this environment, of course Booker and Stevie are going to expound on this and illicit an even more egregious reaction from those in attendance.
Much like Goldust when, once again, he was a heel, he got a thousand F-word chants. And he would hype that up. He turned face, boom the chants stopped. I'm not saying that's the only reason. But let's not pretend them being "bad guys" to this crowd didn't play a part in the heat they got.

Anti-Semitism, my arse. Ever stop to think how often the Jews make fun of other cultures and get away with it?
Peter Engel, Jewish television creator, makes fun of Saudi Arabia (jump to 19:08 in the video):
      ruclips.net/video/Mmk9h--PGZk/видео.html
Notice how people still make Irish jokes? I went to school with a kid who made Irish jokes all the time. He was a very brown lad of Greek-Cypriot descent, both his parents were migrants. He thought that Irish jokes were hilarious, yet call him a greaseball, and he'd go to pieces. What's more, he recommended that I _not_ visit the house of a Pakistani student because he said the kid's house would be dirty and smell bad. I, a fair-haired, blue-eyed kid, ignored him and went anyway.
It taught me a lesson. So-called ethnic minorities like to whine and moan about racism, yet they're often the quickest to indulge in it. Hollywood is full of movie and television shows that wallow in ethnic stereotypes, and if you read the credits, such shows are teeming with Jewish folks.
Arabs, by the way, are Semites, so if Jewish folks make fun of Arabs, aren't they being anti-Semitic? Hilarious how the Jews think that anti-Semitic _only_ means anti-Jewish, like Jews are the only Semites.
When C.M. Punk was in Australia and used the term "walkabout" against a local fan, was that racist? Was that anti-Australian? Seems like people are very selective as to what they view as "racist" these days.

Because of Motorhead, and Motorhead uses it because Lemmy, their singer, was a WWII collector of Axis paraphernalia. The Iron Cross predates nazi germany, just like the Swastika does. It's _not_ inherently a nazi symbol. However, I have absolutely no problem assuming that HHH fosters some fascist-like ideals ---- NOT the racism, necessarily, but the pro-corporate nationalism and the idea of the ubermensch? I could see it. Not sure if Paul is much of a philosophy guy, but looking at him you would think he leans far to the right.
