  • The aircrete pavers worked! Watch how they easily they attach to the walls for future cladding. The guys get more earthbag/hyperadobe walls built and make room for embedded rocks and a HUGE bottle. A little spray foam in the tire and our little tractor/riding lawnmower is on the road again. Have a wonderful Columbus Day! We appreciate you!

    25 years in concrete taught me that simple vinegar will actually remove concrete/cement/ mortar film on just about anything including glass.

    What a productive week! The overlapping (?) quonset hut idea for the roof is fascinating, and I'm extremely curious how it will work. The hexagon 'tiles' look amazing, and I can already imagine the end result.

    Shelly,
    I suggest you take a level and draw vertical lines on the walls the width of the pavers so you can apply the pavers along those lines and then you'll know they are straight. Contractors do this with wall tiles if they don't have laser line levels.

    My fear of the sandblasting would be that it would leave a very rough texture on the rocks - you might loose a lot the shinyness that some of them have!

  • @Jillsy8121
    @Jillsy8121 Год назад +12

    Spraying the wall (rocks & air-creat( with a Thompson's water seal would probably give you results you want. The reds would definitely glow wet or dry. A sand-blast may accidentally do some damage.

    You could create a biome in that big glass bottle: have some earth in it, a tiny bit of water, just enough, a plant and then seal it airtight . The plant could sustain itself for decades. Or you could put in several small ones. There must be lots of info on the webs of making plant biomes

    The Hexagons look great, you could also use spacers like with tiling to make sure the spacing is consistent. I think you could use a dowel rods of any diameter you choose and pull them out once the hexagon is set.

    Those pavers look fantastic on the walls, but they're going to be tough to place on the curved parts, and they'll require a huge amount of mortar on all of the earth bag areas.
    You should get Bryson to weld a giant hexagonal cookie cutter out of steel bar stock, then you can just put cob or whatever on the earth bags like you always do, and press the hex pattern into it while it's damp. After it's cured, you can paint the lines black and paint the hexes lots of different colors.

    You should use a chalk line to keep the tops of the tiles lined up on each row. I noticed they were dropping to the right. If you don't, compounding errors could make the line get worse and worse, and will get very crooked. Just a thought.

    Here's a thought. I saw one of your pavers was a heart. Make one (or one for each) and put the girls name, hand prints and/or foot prints in it. They could be right outside Gaven's room on each side of the door. Then as they have more children (I heard them talking about having 10-12) you could literally circle his room with them. Then when Bree & Jared have children, do the same to her room. Same goes for Bryson & Shae.

    Do a roof with a heavy ceiling between the two old sections - you can store wood pieces up there, metal rods. Not as heavy as an apartment but I have always loved the idea of a hell of a lot of storage space in a workshop, Ladder access would be enough as you won't be living up there

    Vinegar is capable of removing cement film... Either pure or diluted 50/50 with water. Spray it on and rinse it off after about an hour... To prevent the vinegar from drying both apply in the evening and mix the vinegar with wallpaper glue to make it thick like paint remover paste... You can then brush it onto the stones and leave the mortar without the paste... Work in sections, applying vinegar wet cloth and something like cling film or thin plastic to retain the moisture...

    Your rocks can be cleaned with muratic acid and a brush just like brick walls. Anything mecanical (sand blasting, wire brushing) will just make more dust that sticks. Any masonry sealer could give a wet look for a time but, will break down quickly in your sunshine. And is not needed in your climate.

  • @zaneymay
    @zaneymay Год назад

    Hubby says to acid wash it then you have to neutralize the acid with sodium bicarb or TSP. Two gallon garden spray with a 1/4 gallon of acid. Have to wet everything before you apply it. Don't sand blast it. Might want to use an acid brush to get the heavy off.

    Very common in old England to find animal footprints on clay lump blocks and bricks left out in the sun to dry,often referred to as pixie prints the bricks and blocks would be considered blessed and featured in places of prominence by the brick layers. Obviously your pixies were doing you a favor which you could do for your selves by making a comb out of a piece of scrap wood and setting nails about an inch apart, comb wiggly lines across the back face of your pavers when still wet at 90% to each other this will help provide extra grip to your wall. good luck with the build should be a nice work shop it's shape reminds me of the shepherd homes of Crete only they have flat roofs to catch the rain. with stones set into the out side of the wall to act as stairs.
