There is quite an important thing that the narrator missed. The Amhara region was the main proponent of dismantling regional forces, but why are they against it now? That is the million dollar question here - and the answer is : Most of the people of Ethiopia have now lost trust on Abiy (the PM), because what he says and what he does are not the same. For example, people travelling from Amhara region have been frequently prevented from entering the capital. He speaks about the Oromo having the upper hand for the next 100 years. His advisers say the Oromo region is the last region that will have its regional force centralized as the government sees it fit and many more ... This all culminated into fear that he is trying to disarm the regular people, militia, fano and Amhara special forces. And the larger consequence out of this is that he can hand over the disputed areas such as Raya And Wokait back to the TPLF.
False propoganda! Not a single militia from Oromia or any other region will hold a gun unless they join the central Force. Speak for the seek of Truth! And no one lose hope on Abiy other than Amhara people who are suffering from the pain of jealousy of Oromo!

You can take the other calm regions who are still not disarmed yet. It is all about the specific interest that the government and TPLF come against Amhara.

Very Very lazy comparison. Yugoslavia was an amalgamation of countries which belonged to austro-hungary and the ottomans after WW1 and has zero Historical precident. Whereas Ethiopia has had an organic and uninterrupted state formation for 3000 yrs with amahras and tigrayans living in harmony for many many centuries
@@christiandawit612 You're kinda wrong. The organic and uninterrupted Ethiopia you talk about, was a kingdom/Empire, and didn't encompass the current south, south-east and south-west of Ethiopia (until the late 1800s). So before that, Ethiopia was just a kingdom filled with ethnicities from the North, that spoke the same language (ge'ez, now they speak different languages that are from ge'ez) and had the same/similar traditions. However, as you might know that is no longer the case since Ethiopia now has somali, oromia (except for shoa, the part of oromia around the capital addis ababa), Benishangul-gumuz, etc... And all those regions were in fact conquered (by Menelik around 1880s). And just like those territories from Ottomans and austro-hungary, the regions i just mentioned had 0 history precedent.
I remember seeing a map years ago that showed what Africa would look like if it was divided up into ethnicity and geographic based nation states like Europe did. They were over 900 countries, some less than two miles across.
incredible. kind of a beautiful testament to human diversity on the continent where homo sapiens originated. and it says quite a bit that arguably the most stable african country (Botswana) is homogenous
Its probably because no large stable empire has come along and destroyed or assimilated all the small peoples. Rome did that in parts of europe, the persians and hellenistic states did that for much of the middle east, the Chinese in their swath of the world, The Spanish and English/Americans in the Americas, and the Indian subcontinent has had several empires stretching over half or more of it. That leaves south-east asia and africa as the places where small languages and cultures thrive.
I have seen that map. It uses a really loose definition of “ethnicity”, with even clans of certain ethnicities being shown as completely separate ethnicities.
It seems this stuff is always blamed on colonisation, but really, can't you decide to start trade wars instead of breating each other's heads in? If you formed a block Africa would be the richest continent there is.
Saying that the borders not lining up with ethnic boundaries just because it's African is completely missing the context. Ethiopia's borders aren't drawn by a foreign colonial empire (other than losing Eritrea mostly because of the long Italian occupation), but because they thenselves are a colonial empire which never gave up its colonies. That's why the initial war was between tigrayans, who are 6% of the population, and literally everyone else (they were allied with an oromo group and some smaller organizations which mostly existed to make it sound like they had more support), because the Tigrayans and Amhara were the colonial overlords so hold the power
@@drag0n_rage682 More like the Russian empire. In particular it's the use of ethnic migration/settlement that has created a bunch of simmering problems.
I wonder if a more step-by-step approach would work here. Instead of integrating entire regions under one umbrella, only integrate a small part of every region. If these regions become more successful, support would follow.

From what I've seen almost all successful federal states (Germany, the US, etc) have been created when smaller states joining to forma larger entity. Turning a historically centralized and unitary state federal doesn't seem to work. However it's especially worse when local militias are allowed to exist and democracy and the rule of law isn't strong.
@LH Tam Federalization of Russia originally began with the USSR, which ended up as we know. However an additional point with USSR is that it was a dictatorship, and the autonomy of the various regions were undermined by Moscow. Modern Russia is more of the same. From what I know, with the exception of Chechnya, the government of all republics are puppets of Putin. This system of surface level federalism also has a bad effect because it just keeps the center and the dominant group at the top, continuing the issues until the disgruntled regions loose interest and leave.
I think that's a really smart part of it, people are living in horrible conditions in these countries and are probably not that educated, that's the main problem in my opinion.
0:14 is only 1 reason the civil war started. I'd argue the unprovoked ambush and massacre of an entire army base by the TPLF was a more significant factor.
This is the very reason why I've decided to leave my beloved country altogether. The tensions between Amhara and Oromo are yet to unfold in the most fatal ways in the near future - a scenario potentially reminiscent to Rwanda 30 years ago. Best of luck, fellow Ethiopians!
Nah, there will be no Rwanda genocide in Ethiopia, I cringe whoever people say that because that tells me they know nothing about us. Our culture is too mature for that trust me.
The Ethiopian state has been very corrupt and in constant conflict since the TPLF implemented ethnic federalism in the 1990s. Some centralization would be beneficial to Ethiopia since it would integrate the Ethiopian states and strengthen institutions. A lot of this decentralization stems from anti-Oromo sentiment, which is really weird because they have always been oppressed meanwhile Ethiopia has been ruled by Amhara elites and Tigrayan elites (emphasis on the elites, not the people). This ethnic federalism has escalated border relations and ethnic tensions, and has only benefitted a small minority of the population. Wealth and power has been unequally concentrated, and the more populous regions have become less developed than their smaller counterparts.
@@hamdigreat4524 Why do you think it's bad? People want to be ruled by someone with the same culture and values. It would be ironic if instead of all the european made large former colonies, the first to collapse would be the only non-colonized country. But it did become what it is by it's own imperialism and all peoples should be allowed to choose their future. Be it part of a centralized state, independence or a federal country.

Christianity is the reason there's so much conflict. It's a Christian country surrounded by muslim ones, a relic of the failed attempt at invasion during the Islamic invasion of east Africa. Oromos are around 55-60% muslims and Amharas are 80 - 90 % Christians, they've fought since way back, and I personally believe it is mainly a religious conflict, not an ethnic one.

@@EM-tx3ly For the Amhara (FANOs logo has a ethiopian flag on it not the regional flag) and every other tribe excluding the Oromo and Tigray the survival of the Ethiopian state is more important than the tribe. Ethiopia only started to have such wide spread problems with tribal interests when the TPLF (Tigray) came to power. The TPLF spread disinformation in order to create distrust between the different tribes and by making tribal identity more important than nationality. Thus preventing different tribes from working together against them. Ultimately they wanted to declare independence after plundering the country. People fear that Abiys government has adopted this plan for the Oromos. As a result groups like Fano refuse to give up their weapons. In 2015 (Oromo protests) western media were saying Ethiopia could collapse, in 2020-22 (Tigray war) it would collapse and now same thing. As an Ethiopian I have to say that I am astonished by the fact that you summarize the nation's centuries long historical tensions with in 9 minutes. Most of your analysis comes from viewing the outcome of war or tension rather than causes. In fact, they were seen as a betrayal by many Oromo, and it was seen as more of an Amhara policy simply being pushed by someone who happens not to be Amhara himself. The politics in Ethiopia are often divided by ethnicity the same way they're divided by party in most countries. The Oromo and Tigrayans, plus some other smaller ethnicities, support decentralization, the Amhara and some smaller ethnicities support centralization. Also the no one is worried about the Oromo dominating politics, as they are currently underrepresented, and their population is very similar to the Amhara, each if them have very roughly 30% of the population. For anything to be passed in a more centralized government, you would need either the support of both 100% of the Oromo and Amhara, 100% of one of them and most of the smaller ethnic groups, or more realistically, most of the Oromo and Amhara while still having plenty of support from the other ethnic groups
In a multiparty system, the usual are around 8 parties elected, all them from diferent ideology. If you add ethnic diferences to that, problably Ethiopia needs a 500 seats parliament, to allow small ideological parties from small ethnical group, to be able to elect seats and voice.

You’ve made a couple mistakes. 1, The Tigray war did not start because of election, it started because tplf attacked federal military base in Tigray. 2, Fanos are militias. They don’t take orders from the regional government 3, although most Amhara would agree to a powerful central gov and having a centralized military is good but the timing of disarmament was poorly done by the gov.
How could Ethiopia centralise its nation without upsetting the cultural minorities? Divide the states into different regions to focus less on cultural boundaries or keep the system and create rival states?
I think the answer was given further South in Africa, in Botswana. If I recall correctly, I think there were 11-12 tribes, but with competent leadership, Sir Seretse Khama managed to forge them into a nation and create a feeling that all people, regardless of ethnic/tribal loyalty had a stake in this greater political entity. Botswana is one of the few countries in post-colonial Africa which never had civil conflicts and which has a stable democracy. People will unite if they have a reason to unite, so give them a reason. There is no logical nor factual reason to support the idea that he is ethno-centric. Simply put, he is an Ethiopian just like millions of others. Ethiopia had not been, as the presenter lazily commented, in what seemed to be in an eternal ethnic conflict. Of course, there had been inter-tribal skirmishes now and then as in many other countries. The new Oromo-Tigrean alliance will disintegrate as fast as it was formed. It just a matter of time, because Oromos and Tigreans have one common enemy: Amharas. Thus, from Amhara perspective, Amharas will do everything in their power to defend their livelihood from Tigreans/Oromos. FANO and Amhara Special Forces will not disarm. Abiy's plan has failed, and he's Oromo forces that he sent to Amhara region have been neutralized.
To start with the Oromos are not the biggest population because there is no tangible census that has been done correctly (without political agenda behind it). The current map that was made by TPLF by itself is wrong because it took Shewa region from the Amharas and gave it to the Oromos.
Anybody with half a brain clearly knows oromos r largest tribe in Ethiopia and outnumber the fake amharas ...if you minus the tribes which amharas force to speak Amharic and steal their land like wolkayit rayyya beta Israel and agaw then amharas are less than 15 million...while oromo as we speak are over 35 million and this is coming from a Somali from somalia
@Hassan Al Jabarti In the first place who annexed a bunch of land from Amhara? TPLF and the Oromo moment leaders. Second, Who demolished the tribes in Ethiopia in the name of Gadda, Gudifecha, etc…? Again the Oromo movement leaders and tribes. If Amhara kings were to force the tribes that the Oromo movement cleansed, then there would have been no other tribe other than the Amharas by now. The Amhara kings never ever forced any of the tribes to speak their language or do anything that they don’t want. That is why you see a lot of kings like TONA from a different tribe than Amhara in the history of Ethiopia. Oromos didn’t even exist before the 15th and 16th centuries in Abyssinia. I don’t know what type of history you have been reading. And this has been written not by the Amharas but by Portuguese historians and other historians who have been traveling to the east of Africa in that time.

@@hassanabdikarimmohamed2505 The Oromos literally can not claim an inch of land if you really wanna talk about land ownership. And there are so many books to proof this. As I have told you Oromo didn’t exist before the 15th and 16th century. However, Amharas had a monastery in Zeway in the 10th century. This by itself will knock out your claim of land ownership. Claiming land is not a good way to live peacefully. The only way to sustain peace is to stop killing Amharas and start living together as an Ethiopian. And Amharas have been doing that for years. They never force anyone to leave. And, no. I’m not enjoying you cousins leadership because they are killing thousands of people mainly Amharas because of their ethnicity. Literally no tribe in Ethiopia accused the Amhara people and Amhara kings for being evil. The proof for this is that Oromos living in Amhara region today are not being touched by Amharas where the Amharas in Oromia are literally being mutilated and being ethnically cleansed. In addition, Amharas exist from north to south and east to west for hundreds of years. Within this years, they are known for being very peace loving, hardworking, GOD fearing, helpful and polite towards any of the other tribes. You can see Amharas being married to other tribes and make families all over the country. This wouldn’t happen if they were not peace loving. However, if you have healthy eyes and brain, you can clearly see OLA(Oromo liberation Army) killing the Amharas all over oromia region and in Addis Ababa. Now, who is evil?! One thing I will assure you is that Amharas are getting together again and they are getting stronger. I will assure you justice will be served soon not by killing but by law.
@@isaias7506 let me tell you Oromo are more likely to die in land of oromia than average Amhara who just live in Oromia and don't contribute anything to regions of peace and stability and they still think they are better just because some Amhara settled in oromia in 20 th c. I donot know Ethiopia politics but having parallel state militia with national army is bad idea. Infact I guess this is cause of inter region wars in Ethiopia. State/regions govt should have police and central govt should have army. That way of centralisation is actually good
That is really a good one and many Ethiopians believe in that and they sked the government to disarm the special forces but the government do not want it at times but now the timing is not good to disarm ONLY Amharan Special force as the Northern part is already in a serious and sensitive situation. It should be done slowly to bring stability.

You get the statistics wrong. The 2007 censuses was politically motivated and the Oromos are not more than 8.5 Million in Ethiopia. They are also rooted in Northern Kenya and Tanzania way up to their root in Madagascar. They are late arrival to Ethiopia in the 15th century via pasturalization and destroyed almost 37 tribes by killing males to halt fertility and overtake grazing lands. In fact, in the current TPLF factious demarcation of the so called " Oromiya" region in Ethiopia, there are ~ 10 -15 million indigenous Amharas living . With the current turmoil in the country, TPLF and the Oromo squad ( lead by Mr. Abiy Ahmed Ali) are having a road map to tear up ancient Ethiopia and creating mini countries. The only tribe resisting and fighting these two treason actors are the Amhara people. The funny thing is, the #world has been misguided about the Amhara struggle for survival and fight to keep Ethiopia to avoid disintegration. BTW, there is no region called West Tigray, it is invaded by the TPLF during their reging for 27 years in search of fertile land and taken from Amharas. In summary, there will soon be a huge spill of instability in Ethiopia and in the horn of Africa unless, the fake PhD holder Mr. Abiy Ahmed Ali (PM) of Ethiopia and the TPLF are dealt with caution to save Ethiopia and East African countries.
There are so many fundementals that the speaker did not discuss. I understand it might be complex, but I think with little more research, it can be grasped. As an Ethiopian, I can assure you that this is the most divisive constitution in the history of mankind. From the cover, it might sound good in creating 'equality'. But if you know its depth and how it being applied, then you will get shocked. In short, the constitution: 1. The core of the constitution was to weakening and eventually annilating ethnic Amharas. 2. Was designed for minority Tigray to rule majoirity, the rest of the country. 3. Was designed to divide and rule. 4. There are 86 ethnic groups, but only 11 (3 recently added) so most ethnic groups have no meaningful representation. If the constitution was designed for fair representation, then all of them should have regional state. 😂 3. You mentioned, Harere Regional State with 250,000 people. Yet it is a regional state. There are people groups that are by far many but have no regional state. Example, Guragee with 3,000,000 + population. 4. You said the regions geography represnt the majourity who live in it, right? Benishangul Regional State, the majourity are not the ethnics combined to form that region. So that is not the case. The geography does not also represent the population. Somali and Oromia regional states and the geography does not reflect your analysis, so is Afar. They both have so larger that, majority of the land is not inhabited. In the contrary, Amhara, the largest ethnic group has relatively, smaller geographical area compared to the others in proportion with its population. 😅 5. You should also know that withing these "large regional states" there are minorities whose right to govern themselves is only respcted in Amhara region. Not in Tigray and Oromia (Never!) why? The constitution was written by Tigrayans ethno separetist group TPLF and Oromo Separetist group OLF. They succeeded graping thw power supported by USA and the West during cold war. By then the State was run by communist dictatorship. The consequences of this constitutional arrangement has been a fatal decline in the history of a country where people of different ethnic groups and other diversities were living for many years with relatively mutual.respect compared to today where your survival is solely based on hiding yourself in ypur ethnic group. There is no State as one don't have any right outside of his "regional ethnic teritory" . This is the most premitive, non sense and dangerous form of government system. Amharas are accusd of opposing this constitution. They opose it as it affected them the most negatively. But it really has affected all Ethiopians from any ethnic group in one or another way. If Ethiopia is to continue as a state, then the constitution must be changed. Disharming the special force itself is against the constitution. 😅 So it will not work and perhaps will bring another civil war. But really, what is at play is anti Amhara sentiment of the constitution spirit and the governments including current leader Abiye. Amharas are now supported.by the rest of people in Ethiopia who are tired and sick of these divisive constitution.
Nope it is about land and identity, and history? Just like in Europe where they used to kill each other made their subjects So don't come to belittle us buddy
I don’t wanna be an apologist or anything but from the way it’s presented here at least, Abiy Ahmed kinda has a point. It’s nice that every people group has their own region, but like with the Harare and Oromo, a lot of these are extremely unbalanced in size and power, and them being allowed to create their own ethnic militias was guaranteed to spark ethnic conflict over every bored disagreement rather than just letting the government arbitrate the matter. Obviously the war is horrific but it does remind me of the pre civil war United States where peoples personal loyalty to their own home region created instability when those regions decided they didn’t like what the government was doing.
Ethiopia is a failed state from the very start Regions subjected will never submit Pre civil war us is a failed comparison. The country is older than the oldest ancient empire on your continent If the amhara get removed the country will be peaceful
In the last four years Amhara communities living in the Oromo region have been subjected to sustained violence by Oromo nationalists; the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF)/Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), together with Oromo Special Forces ((OSF) and the Queero (Oromo youth group) are behind the violence, with it seems, the approval, perhaps active participation, of the government.
There has been just as much violence against Oromo in Amhara. Stop fighting each other and realize the elites are pitting you against each other so you don't come for them. Culturally and genetically there is barely any distinction between amhara and Oromo, there has been so much intermixing between them. The divisions between them are purely artificial made by greedy politicians. Im American, I can tell you what happens when you let the politicians divide regular people. They get away with war profiteering pyramid schemes, tax evasion, name anything shotty they could do and they're doing it. Meanwhile we're killing each other in the streets and trying to coup the government for being a party you don't like. Don't be like us, work together against the shitty politicians.
A failed leader will result in a failed administration. When you have a leader that is a war monger and leans more and more on his ethnic identity, the result is continuous civil unrest and war. It may not collapse, but we are at the point of witnessing another civil war - mainly because he used the people from Amhara as pawns to forward his interest and betrayed them on the outcome of the war with Tigray. The calm will eventually come after the storm and the chaos will birth a more united Ethiopia with no regional boundaries.
Overall well researched except one misconception. In fact most minority ethnic groups feel safe and protected in a more inclusive united Ethiopia except few such as TPLF and Ogaden which have their roots in external factors. For Example TPLF was a tactical brainchild of Etitrean independence movement and the Eritreans literally carried TPLF all the way to the capital Addis Ababa. Whereas, the Ogaden movement was part and parcel of the "Greater Somalia" project propagated by Egypt, which eventually ended-up destroying Somalia all together...the fact that of all 81 ethnic groups non other rhan these few raised arms should say something..even the groups that claimed to represent the numerically big Oromo region never managed to galvanize the population and capture a single village despite the fact that they have been around in name for as long as TPLF or ELF was around, it was only when TPLF arrived in Addis and divided the country in ethnic lines they got allowed in to the country!!!!!!
why is everyone always obsessed with people who CLEARLY don't want to be together remaining forced? if some people want to leave; they should be allowed to. they shouldn't be kept against their will for some false unity
@@thevinci6717 you do realize that balkanization means ethnic cleansing right ? A border will be drawn and all the ethnic minorities in the wrong side of the border will be killed or forced to move. No one should be killed or punished because of thier ethnicity regardless of where they live.
There has been an actual peace signed, and every part of it has been slowly but surely being implemented (really too slowly, but it is happenning). Not all services and access to Tigray have been fully reinstated but it's getting there, and other than that the only issues really left are getting Eritrean troops and Amhara militias out of Tigray, and what to do about the part of Tigray which Amhara has occupied and claims is rightfully theirs, while Tigray disagrees
CORRIGENDA ON FACTS - (1) - the Oromo people are not "one third of the total population" - much lower than that figure - in fact, there have never been any accurate statistics in anything in Ethiopia - population, economic growth or decline...for the last thirty years in row (only made up figures just to fit into certain political objectives, as manipulated by groups in power together with their foreign allies!) (2) - There's no clear line separating the several ethnic groups as a matter of clear identity - Ethiopians have had undergone by marriages/blood intermixing across all ethnic groups through centuries, (without some of them even being aware of the roots of their ancestors! ) Those bits and pieces of localized maps drawn and shown within Ethiopia have not even corollary with actual ethnic distributions - they are arbitrary and unnecessary, capricious and dangerous for peace and stability in the region or for the security of the country - only purposes maybe for divide and rule or to "Balkanize" and destroy the nation. (3) - The national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ethiopian state has never been in question or in any way endangered by ethnic diversities or "conflicts!" (such conflicts were either concocted by foreign powers in the form of "LF" movements or instigated within by the government - actually, it only started to take that appearance or shape following the EPLF in Eritrea - Eritrean independence (nefarious colonial legacy, as pattern following the partitioning of the whole of Africa!), neighboring Tigreans imitating things from there for their own political or personal ambitions, which triggered an avalanche of man made troubles all across the country.
What Abiy is doing is not to integrate the Amhara forces into the Army. It's his pretext to disarm the Amharas whom he thinks will stand against his ambition to bring all Ethiopians under the Oromo dominance.
@Mr.flimflamsdad It's hard to understand Ethiopian politics unless you'r an Ethiopian. Amharas ruled the country for over 100 years, and that regime was overthrown by the military that doesn't represent any particular ethnicity. Then Tigraian forces took power and introduced an evil political system, Ethnic Federalism, to divide the nation and rule because they're a minority. After 27 years of Tigraian rule, people got tired, revolted, and kicked them out. When Abiy came to power, he was telling Ethiopians that he's going to abolish Ethnic politics and strengthen unity. But he was lying, that all his promises was until he consolidate power. People of Ethiopia found out that his plan is to make Ethnic Oromos the dominant power and control the political, economic life of Ethiopians.
Why do Tigrayans need their own country when they were the ones who contributed to Ethiopia's fast economic growth. The current constitution was founded by a Tigrayan led-government.
I'm surprised the video did not mention that in Ethiopia, secession is legal and explicitly allowed in the Constitution. A region could break away by following the mandated process.
@@kingsom9108 exactly, each people live in their ancestral homeland & wish to have their affairs represented by themselves, an agreed upon secession could have allowed countries to form peacefully but even Eritrea wasn’t given this even though its in the Constitution, Eritrea could have been a good democracy if its Self-determination was respected but instead it was attacked now they have a dictatorship.

And just like those territories from Ottomans and austro-hungary, the regions i just mentioned had 0 history precedent.

incredible. kind of a beautiful testament to human diversity on the continent where homo sapiens originated. and it says quite a bit that arguably the most stable african country (Botswana) is homogenous
From what I've seen almost all successful federal states (Germany, the US, etc) have been created when smaller states joining to forma larger entity.

What do you think about Russia then?

Centralization is rarely a good thing. More often it is the way to increase corruption and social discrimination.
true
Decentralization through ethnic lines is the same favors one ethnic group over the other when ever a new leader comes in
The Ethiopian state has been very corrupt and in constant conflict since the TPLF implemented ethnic federalism in the 1990s.

It is really shame really. Such a beautiful country and has roots in early Christianity so appeals to history lovers as well yet descending into utter chaos - yet again. 😢😢

This report lacks the main culprit of the existing heightened situation in Ethiopia.
As an Ethiopian I have to say that I am astonished by the fact that you summarize the nation's centuries long historical tensions with in 9 minutes. Most of your analysis comes from viewing the outcome of war or tension rather than causes. Majority of Ethiopians don't prefer the ethnic federalism with regions having border and their own army in addition to the central army by arguing geographical is better. The tigray war which consumes about 800,000 people with in just 2 years (more than any war in the world ) result from this ethnic tension added by paramilitary forces and ironically in the era of a leader who is Nobel peace prize winner (2019) which by the way makes the Norwegian 5 MPs of the prize committee shameful. Unless there is structural and constitutional change Ethiopia's chance of surviving even in the form of post USSR or Yugoslavia is minimal. Added to this you forget to discuss the role or influence of USA / EU and China Russia and other local powers like UAE , Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Only your tribe opposes federalism. Why? You lose exploiting them.

It's not accurate to say that Abiy's actions were viewed as an Oromo power grab.

Great correction.
You’ve made a couple mistakes.
1, The Tigray war did not start because of election, it started because tplf attacked federal military base in Tigray.
2, Fanos are militias. They don’t take orders from the regional government
3, although most Amhara would agree to a powerful central gov and having a centralized military is good but the timing of disarmament was poorly done by the gov.
Create inter-group cooperation projects, like infrastructure and economic development projects that would benefit more than just one group and make them feel first and foremost as Ethiopians rather than just Oromo or Amhara or whatever. Ethiopia had not been, as the presenter lazily commented, in what seemed to be in an eternal ethnic conflict. Of course, there had been inter-tribal skirmishes now and then as in many other countries. To label Ethiopia as a country of incessant ethnic strifes can only be interpreted as an attempt to deny its history of thousands of years of peaceful coexistence between various ethnic groups. Here one may also need to emphasize that the current situation was created by the TPLF dominated government that came to power in 1991, which introduced ethnic apartheid (with the help of the USA) in Ethiopia, which Abiy Ahmed is trying to abolish.
Nope Abiy is 100% Oromo. His mother is Christian but Amhara just means Christian so
@@aman_xvii how so? Your evidence? His mother's name is Tizita Welde, an Amhara name, and had been said to be of Amhara community wherever one is to check about her background. Abiy is not trying to centralize power. He's building an Oromo dominance, hegemony, and supremacy. You forgot one important fact: that the entire military apparatus is led by Oromo generals, and that we don't have a national force at the moment, instead what we have is an Oromo forces disguised in Ethiopian uniforms.

There live 41 million Oromo people in Ethiopia. The country has 108 million people so 25 would be less than a quarter...

In short, the constitution:
So it will not work and perhaps will bring another civil war. But really, what is at play is anti Amhara sentiment of the constitution spirit and the governments including current leader Abiye.
Amharas are now supported.by the rest of people in Ethiopia who are tired and sick of these divisive constitution.

As an Ethiopian I lived there for about 4 years but I just moved back to where I was born in America
Paul Kagame was right about diminishing ethnocism!!!
Very sad I hope Ethiopia can recover and not Balkanize
Balkanization is the solution
Balkanization might be the best option, frankly.
why is everyone always obsessed with people who CLEARLY don't want to be together remaining forced?

@@thevinci6717 you do realize that balkanization means ethnic cleansing right ? A border will be drawn and all the ethnic minorities in the wrong side of the border will be killed or forced to move. No one should be killed or punished because of thier ethnicity regardless of where they live.

CORRIGENDA ON FACTS -
(1) - the Oromo people are not "one third of the total population" - much lower
than that figure - in fact, there have never been any accurate statistics in anything in Ethiopia -
population, economic growth or decline...for the last thirty years in row
(only made up figures just to fit into certain political objectives, as manipulated by groups
in power together with their foreign allies!)
(2) - There's no clear line separating the several ethnic groups as a matter of clear identity -
Ethiopians have had undergone by marriages/blood intermixing across all ethnic groups
through centuries, (without some of them even being aware of the roots of their ancestors! )
Those bits and pieces of localized maps drawn and shown within Ethiopia have not even corollary with
actual ethnic distributions - they are arbitrary and unnecessary, capricious and dangerous for peace
and stability in the region or for the security of the country - only purposes maybe for
divide and rule or to "Balkanize" and destroy the nation.
(3) - The national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ethiopian state has never been
in question or in any way endangered by ethnic diversities or "conflicts!" (such conflicts were either
concocted by foreign powers in the form of "LF" movements or instigated within by the government -
actually, it only started to take that appearance or shape following the EPLF in Eritrea -
Eritrean independence (nefarious colonial legacy, as pattern following the partitioning
of the whole of Africa!), neighboring Tigreans imitating things from there for their own political
or personal ambitions, which triggered an avalanche of man made troubles all across the country.
